I've never really clicked with social media. I remember back when I was 13, I really, really wanted to use Facebook because that was what everyone was using. It wasn't exactly new by that point, but most people I knew hadn't made the switch to mostly using Twitter yet, and wouldn't for at least a few years. At first I loved it, but I quickly came to realize that it wasn't really what it was made out to be. I never really interacted with anyone on it outside of some games that were barely even games. Using it didn't feel like a fun way to keep up with and interact with friends and family whenever and wherever I wanted, it felt like turning that into a job you were more obligated to do because if you didn't then you wouldn't be involved in their lives. So I stopped using it and just kept in touch the old fashioned way, with phone calls and at family gatherings and such. I tried Twitter eventually, but just couldn't stand the post limit, and Reddit was never really something I clicked with either. About the closest I ever really felt good using were things like Skype and Discord, but specifically with small friend groups that I would game with regularly, and forum sites like this. That smaller, more localized and personal feeling I think just makes everything feel better, and by extension makes me feel better about using it.
