For now though, I want you to take a deep, long breath…just don't think about it or anything really, relax for a second or for a few minutes. Take a break you know? Because you have tried improving if not a lot then bit by bit. Take a note of what you actually can't do, then practice and repeat.

I'm trying not to doompost but the winter blues have gotten me. Part of me feels as if I should have everything organized in life by now. Thank you for your kind message. :'D

I guess it's an age-related thing, my generation is much more exposed to other people's lifestyles and achievements through social media so you end up passively / subconsciously comparing yourself to other people. When you're unable to achieve certain milestones it hits harder.

I guess it's an age-related thing, my generation is much more exposed to other people's lifestyles and achievements through social media so you end up passively / subconsciously comparing yourself to other people. When you're unable to achieve certain milestones it hits harder.

But here's the thing: you are not watching people being endlessly successful, you are watching a curated, perfectly selected highlight reel of their lives. I used to think of sites like Instagram as poisonous because they showed me how much of a failure I was... then met some of the people I was following IRL and the illusion quickly shattered once I discovered that they weren't the brand clothing-wearing, fancy restaurants-eating, eternal party- going kind like they tried to be. Hell, most worked even worse jobs than me, and resided in worst areas.

I'd advise to never use newspapers nor social media as standards for anything.

What worries me most is the effect it's having on young men. The self-improvement echo-chamber is terrible because it's all a bunch of macho masculine misogynistic gurus who try to sell you their next course and product. I'm not just talking about Tate or Hamza or any of the other extreme weirdos, loads of them are like this. It's ruined the concept of bettering yourself and turned it into a D-measuring contest with other guys, belittling each other for not reaching a certain status or having wealth, which makes you even more insecure and miserable. I want to be better but in a way that actually makes me happier, healthier and more fulfilled.

I used to be really annoyed by all the "self-made entrepreneurs" flexing their cars and fancy watches, but then I realized just how hollow everything was. You drive a Lamborghini? That's great! I used to drive around a 25-year-old Regatta-S. Guess what? They both take me places.

this thread got me to look up wtf a Regata is and now I kind of want one (unfortunately Fiat is basically non-existent here in the states and from what I remember importing euro cars is not the same deal as importing japanese cars)

that's pretty funny because here fiats have kind of a rep here for being shitboxes, granted a lot of that is because the only models they sold here in recent memory were after they merged with the same company that owns one of the big american automakers and their QC suffered dearly as a result
