WWE 2k20 after patches is less glitchy than 2k22, it had good story mode and women's roster.

Liked Mass Effect Andromeda more than 3, but on release I suffered many game-breaking bugs. Still finished it, and couldn't do finished ME3 on launch only got back to it years later with Citadel DLC.

Dragon Age 2, best gameplay in the series... Veilguard also good, the complains on YouTube are mostly not genuine (choices matter a lot), Inquisition is the worst DA IMO because it's BORING.

From retro games I have mostly a normie mindset where I agree with AVGN on Top Gun and Turtles being broken and frustrating, especially for kids, but I love a few simple games from Famicom multicarts that people riff against online nowadays, like Nuts & Milk or Urban Champions.

Kingdom hearts chain of memories, both versions. Sure, it's not the best Kingdom Hearts game, but it's far from the worst. I liked the idea of using cards strategically to win battles and to create different versions of a world.

Yeah you really needed other players to enjoy it.
Good skills synergy was insane, and the IA couldn't remplace players for that.

Maybe not universally hated, but way underappreciated:

The Dig, by Lucasarts. Killer vibe and OST, my favorite adventure game.
Skyward Sword after the first two hours of interminable hand-holding.
Resident Evil: Dead Aim, if you have a GunCon and a CRT.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, the only good SH game released after 3 and before the SH2 remake.

Oh, and screw it, Dead Space 3. Once you get off the moon it turns back into a real Dead Space game and kicks ass.

I really like the original Gex’s gameplay, and I do enjoy the character and how the whole series is themed around TV, but I never really cared for the 3D sequels — I found them a bit tedious, and the levels were all really cramped.

I actually like both Gex voices a lot, and the British version has some funny lines. That chick they were pushing in 3 really wasn’t all that hot, though, and this is coming from someone who thinks stacked 90s blondes were the epitome of humanity.

Im convinced people just say they hate it because it became a meme amongsts millenials to shit on the american 90s attitude and tropes, theres nothing wrong with the trilogy they're nice enough platformers and the 3d ones have a pretty good engine

Remember FF8 was well liked by fans when it came out an d squaresoft never shied away from featuring its characters in crossover games, it only became the bad one in the late 00s as far as I remember

FF8 is flawed, but it's not a bad game, the biggest problem with 8 is it basically requires you to use the in-game encyclopedia to know what's going on.

I'll always be a huge GBA CoM defender. I respect the PS2 version for what it is but the way it plays just never felt as smooth so I always go back to CoM when replaying the series.

On the topic of Kingdom Hearts though, I am glad that discussion around Re:Coded has gotten more nuanced over the years. It is definitely a pointless filler story but the combat system was super cool and I loved a lot of the boss gimmicks it had! People still tend to write it off but I notice that every year more and more people come around to appreciating it.

FF8 is flawed, but it's not a bad game, the biggest problem with 8 is it basically requires you to use the in-game encyclopedia to know what's going on.

Personally, my problem with it is the story. It starts off making sense right up until around the point of facing Master Norg. Then all trace of society and logic goes right out the window.

Excellent junctioning system and game mechanics, with a story just kind of spat out and sewn together with pieces that don't match, like some kind of Frankenstein's Monster.

with its story, as his downside. it is not bad, just confusing sometimes.

if the teardrop crystal anime will continue with a second season, glad to watch it.
(explained some parts of the jumi arc, I can imagine explanations beyond, like the origins of fa'diel and general lore, as well as the others two main arcs).

I played Nostalgia (DS) back in 2023 on a whim and was shocked how much I ended up loving it - it's totally JRPG comfort food, and scratches a similar "age of adventure" airship exploration vibe as Skies of Arcadia. The world map is the real world, but with enough differences that it makes finding something new even more meaningful somehow.

But no one seems to talk about this game, and the things people do say seem pretty lukewarm. It's not the best game ever, but if any of the above sounds good to you, I totally recommend checking it out! It's even got a cute French witch girl and adorable little rabbit creatures that look like Terriermon from Digimon! >w<
