Who'd interpret your

No one'd interpret your original comment like that! Anyway, I didn't know RNG was that much of an issue in Tactics. I guess attacks and status effects tend to miss a lot, but missing was so common early in the FF games.
Well some parts especially after you get mustadio it was of utmost importance to have him in every single mission due to his ability to disable enemies from acting thing is you miss more often than not.

Same for breaking armor or weapons and even at points charge attacks and missing in tactics has a huge impact more so than other FF games around that time if you miss that's the entire turn gone to waste and it can make or break the entire mission.

What did you think i meant? I'm not a big fan of the whole way Tactics is structured and the need to grind i hope they fix this in the upcoming remaster by making new recruits scale with ramza level cuz getting a new recruit from the market was made less useful late game cuz they start with level 1 which means you have to do some grinding session to get them up and running.

I agree; the phrasing made it sound as if you meant to make it a regular RPG as opposed to a strategy RPG.

This clarification makes me glad I didn't respond with anger, as was my first inclination. 😅
Just addressing some mild annoyances there and there would improve the game the PSP port solved some like annoying encounters when traveling making wanting to arm someone with a gun a big hustle.

Oh, I'm no stranger to the jank mechanics of FFT. 😅

Although, my issues are generally more technical, mostly to do with the way AI handles certain situations in ways that are less than intelligent.

A lot of it is due in part to how the broken system can be taken huge advantage of.

Then there's the fact I think the game should have equal stats for characters regardless of gender.

Yeah AI can do some hilariously bad decisions like delita kept rushing algus and dying to whole time I'm like "BRO COME ON I WANT YOU ON YOUR FEET THIS TIME STOP RUSHING!!!"

I didn't even notice a difference between genders with guys having better melee performance and girls having better magic performance but i find it fine not bothered much by it , i mean my main spellcaster the highly esteemed master sorvez destroyer of the lucavi was a guy who wielded time and black magic dude absolutely carried my ass through the whole entire game!

One thing i would like is making the player able to command more than 5 units , ramza always occupied a slot in story leaving you with 4 you always needed a dedicated healer leaving you with 3 you need your best dudes and girls to fight leaving less experienced troops behind when playing story missions.

At least have me able to place 6 soldiers or 7

Mainly I want it balanced because of the noticable difference in monk strength based on gender, which I feel is bullshit.

And yeah I agree about having more units; so it's okay to have 10 Samurai or 10 Monks appear but we can only have 5 units? Bullshit.

Yeah monks are an exception since they should be best melee oriented job , i found them pretty fragile without knight armor , usually monks have high HP to make up for lack of armor but not here which makes using them more difficult.

Yeah i wanted to create my own samurai elite squad or i called the samurai vanguard which was going to consist of 3 male sumaris and 1 female sumari , sumari and lancers i found both to be the most fun to play with along with summoners.

The mechanic can be implemented as an upgrade or in each act the number of soldiers in the field increase by 1 , for example act 3 the start of the war of lion should have this included since it's an all out war and you would as ramza need more soldiers cuz the church wants to catch your ass and everyone doesn't like you anyway.

Idk if PSP port did it but they should have really made some drastic changes in act 3 when the war breaks out like change monsters that spawn in green locations to more military soldiers either from larg side or goltana side , have few scenes watching both armies clashing and skirmishes occurring so we can actually see the war with our own eyes.

@Pandaprewmaster325
it's possible that the ai is given a random preset of actions to perform during each battle. they did something like that in advance wars, every ai enemy had about 5 different patterns of tactics to use. meaning an apc [a non-combative unit used for transportation] could head straight for your base to reenact the "he's just standing there, MEANCINGLY!!" while a neotank [a literal death star on wheels] will just stand next to the enemy hq like a stand and do nothing until you start approaching it.
but i have seen what delita does during the few story battles i've been through; he comes off very stupid. and so did the other guy that was there for like 2 battles. i don't think the devs either cared about ally ai or they forgot to set it up so that it doesn't just leroy jenkins into all situations.

@χKai
how much of a difference was there in male and female monk strength?
i saw something on a ff tactics thread on a website that talked about the unit amount. i'll try looking for it and post a link here that goes into more detail about it. it was quite interesting if i remember correctly.

Possible they programmed it that way , enemy AI or certain enemies sometimes prefer to flank you one way i figured to exploit enemies is to lure them by keeping the formation together while making 1 guy lead the way the enemies would start creating a semi circle around him which then can allow me to isolate 1-2 soldiers.

It doesn't work in all situations but when it does it can make wonders! Sometimes for example chocobo AI would prefer to hit you twice even if it's HP is pretty low most of the time it heals itself when that happens.

yeah, sometimes certain enemies are programed to do specific things, but they always put in a little bit of randomness to keep you on your toes. there's only so much you can do in so much time while making a game.
i always saw the chocobos prioritizing healing unless they could one shot my characters, it was rare for them to not do so. they do certainly like to stay close to their allies though; it got hard a few times to surround one to do the exp/jp farming. that's the main reason i have such a high level compared to where i am at in the story.

Mfs were annoying as hell chocobos were able to flank the formation with ease and strike my rear.

They usually acted aggressive with me always hitting the rear and retreating.

Oh you still haven't finished it yet? Been like what 3 months since you started it ::thinking

Man you have manufactured an ICBM by now to nuke all of ivalice ::smug

i got distracted by some other games and i got a new laptop; pretty much got everything set up now.
i'll get back into the game in a little while.

Take your time bro it's a game worth experiencing even if some parts can be frustrating

I would like monsters to be removed from party count and be it's own stable or housing. I get story wise it makes sense that the number is small as you are a band of lets say independent mercenaries? and thus your army should be small for more control and little detection, payments but you couldn't really invest in monster units and keep every unique character in your army. Dumb AI is good for JP farming but not for story beats, but it's likely they won't tweak much but the art which is a shame as the job/treasure hunting side quests were cut in original release and again in War of Lions.

Monsters clutter the small army you have

1 chocobo and somehow you now have 7 more chocobos! If you take 4 with you they will die pretty fast , such a shame cuz chocobos aren't actually bad in act 2 but they just can't keep up at all with act 3.

If they make you able to command 6 units instead of 5 i will call that an improvement but it will never be a thing cuz the trailer didn't show it.

I would still like knights to be able to ride chocobos cuz a knight ain't a knight without his steed

wait, chocobos can be permanent recruits? is that a skill that one of the jobs learn, to recruit monsters?

Yup just hope you get a black chocobo cuz they absolutely destroy everything but have very low HP.

Otherwise get rid of every chocobo you get , you may want to save baku cuz u know baku da gigachad chocobo.

You can convert them to your cause with mediator? I forgot his name but the job was specialized in talking your way out of everything.

You could convert enemies to your side but it has a very decent chance of failing , the same job can increase a character bravery/faith and i think the increase is permanent.

You get baku for free other than that you need to use mediator

You know that just really grinds the gears, the only chocobo knight I remember having where the chocobo didn't take up a unit space was FFA2! Granted you had to mount him on the map but you could only have a moogle with job to mount and most of his tool set would be just the chocobo's moves, which really makes him a lack luster unit but hey he could ride the black chocobo and fly!

BRUH they didn't make a proper knight unit? Such an letdown

Also why is it black chocobo when the thing is purple ::thinking are square color blind

okay. i don't think i got anyone learning that job yet. i remember reading on gamefaqs that all you needed to do was have a character jump on the chocobo and you would just have it. no one mentioned the mediator job or anything. i thought that i had missed something when i didn't see the chocobo in the next battle.

You could do that?? What?? Where??? I don't remember such an option....usually characters would cause the game to ask you "this character wants to join you yes or no?"

no. outlines are typically black, and computer programs don't distinguish outlines from fill colors. i learned this quite early on when filling in colors for clothes in some of my drawings. unless you get the color select tool to be ultra specific, pick a color that's just a tad bit too close to another and it picks them both. from that point forward, i pick a shade of grey that is dark enough to look black on its own but would stand out against a solid background of actual black.

i'll boot up the game later and check again. i think you might have to weaken the chocobo. i'll also look for the topic again on gamefaqs. i'll post the link when i find it again.

Thats actually useful insight.

I don't know if weakening enemies make them easier to convert.

Btw check this out it's a mere glimpse of what a modern Final Fantasy 6 remake might look like

i found this on gamefaqs:

that's pretty awesome. too bad square enix is too lame and lazy to make something like this nowadays.
hopefully someone makes this a real thing one day.

Any unit I think can mount a friendly chocobo just not use all their abilities, making them good for mages to give them better reach or easy escapes. You do however need a mediator/Orator or had the unit with the job's abilities equipped on them with the skill Beasttongue unlocked to invite the unit to your cause.
