Dissidia Duellum is... not great. At first it was interesting, but after smashing about 20 crystals I'm already sick of it.

Playing as Cloud and Kain is at least flashy. I just wish you had more control over the Jump attack.

Feel the same. I'm happy to have true multiplayer Dissidia again, with lots of players, but it sure feels hollow.

How hard is it to let me run up walls in a small arena? If I can't run up walls at least give me a jump button.

Yes, it was frustrating because of the "gacha" mechanic and loading times 💀

What are these even supposed to be? Kappas?

I'm really not sure lol, I just love the lil guys ::dkapproves

They kinda look like an anthropomorphic fish/lizard hybrid to me, but the lantern gives them a kind of will-o-the-wisp vibe, so they're likely some kind of amalgam of various inspirations.

OR they're just a funny monster design.
It's Nomura after all and according to Wikipedia (no source though) he "aspired to create a monster that would popularize Final Fantasy monsters like Dragon Quest monsters did." which might be why it's got so much personality.

I love seeing people who are unaware
I cannot see the reaction compilation, I'm sad...

On a side note I really should motivate myself from doing this entry

I absolutely adore the cover

Speaking of which, I've restarted a new game of FFX (this time on the Switch) because nostalgia + 25th anniversary of the game coming soon (ouch).

This boss theme is banger

I still have some vague memories of my mothers struggling against this boss
When I got to that point as well I totally understood why.

Finally sat down and decided to play the DS version of 3 after owning it for over a decade. It's a pretty chill game. Something about the NES/SNES era of FF is so relaxing. I particularly love finding the secret passageways; very fun to look for.

I really like the 3D remake of FF3. I'd go as far as maybe say it's a bit underrated, or at least kind of overlooked, because I think it holds up a million times better than the 3D remake of 4 (or any other version of 4 even).

Nothing like a Dragoon-only run of FF3 3D to make you feel like life is worth living.

I've just started Final Fantasy VIII, which at this point would be the 7th mainline FF game I've played. This is definitely the game with the worst reputation out of that whole dominance period from VI through X so I'm curious to see how I'll feel about it by the end. I'm not sure what to make of the game's overall setting or its characters at the moment but I'm keeping an open mind (Aside from Zell he can gtfo), military school is an unusual pull for a prestige RPG of this nature.

I definitely appreciate the ways the game immediately tries to strike out mechanically with the Junction/GF stuff and magic being a finite resource you steal from enemies. The idea of having 4 limited slots to pick basic battle commands like using items or casting magic is interesting to me as well, strikes me as a further continuation of the design philosophy they started leaning towards with FFVI and FFVII where the player is encouraged to customize the party members to suit certain needs rather than have characters designed to fill one specific role, and since you only get 4 slots it should also prevent your party from feeling super mechanically homogenous since not everyone is going to be running all the same commands.

Graphically speaking the gap between this and FFVII just two years earlier is absolutely insane. It's not even on better hardware but everything from the pre-rendered backgrounds to the models to the camera work is leaps and bounds ahead of their last game.

It is very disappointing that Quistis doesn't keep her glasses on in her combat fatigues though, genuinely might be the worst thing Nomura has ever done over the course of his career at Square.

I don't like the Mobile versions of FFV and FFVI so I'm glad the Pixel Remastered are bringing the actually good sprites and soundtrack yet I also like the GBA version as well.

Why are they damn expensive though? I mean 40 bucks for all 6 should've been good. No way 75 was a reasonable amount for those games...

FF1 and 2 are sold at a lower price because they're quite archaic and short yet I feel like 12 bucks should've been for each games not 18...

My favourite racist

On a more serious note Wakka has an actual development arc and while he grew up believing Yevon and his teaching against machinas (leading to his disdain towards Al Bhed people because they're seen as heretics by Yevon and its followers) yet when he saw that it was built upon a lie he slowly started to be more accepting.

I mean sure it's funny to meme it out with "You ain't Al Bhed, ya?" like the Tidus laugh but it's a surprisingly realistically written character.

PS: I really love the Al Bhed designs in the game, one of my favourite clan/faction in FF

I agree, I'd probably call it underrated as well. I never see anybody talk about it at all. The 3D remake of 4 being comedically difficult at least keeps people talking about it, whereas the remake of 3 is just... crickets.

It's a shame, honestly, because it's a cool game. I haven't played the original, so I'm not sure how it compares, but I can definitely say I like the new main characters, their interactions are pretty funny.

I would've liked to see 5 get a remake in this style too, seeing as it borrows from, and enhances what 3 introduced to the series.

It's way better than the original unless you want to play it purely for curiosity (as a NES game it feels pretty big which is cool) They gave the characters more personality like you said and ironed out a ton of the kinks from the Job system, replacing capacity points with the new Job level system, and in general made all the jobs better comparatively with new stats and abilities iirc.

I've said the EXACT same thing about 5. It's my favorite entry and the style would fit it perfectly!

I disagree with you all the time but this time you are not only correct but you have HIT THE MARK SUCCESSFULLY!

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE , exdeath is a tree with a very fine taste of armor design

The thing i like the most going from FF7 TO FF8 is the huge improvement of graphics and animation design is wonderful

FF8 is that one game where FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY you see your fellow party members instead of the party leader representing everyone else , it's such a nice touch

FF8 also includes death animations for monsters so instead of enemies evaporating into pink clouds you get to see them actually die in a detailed manner it's a top tier detail

Animations are alone worth mentioning you know the way characters move and attack etc instead of the more quirky and character animations of 7 and 9 you get more grounded and weighty animations like basic gunblade attack

I would say FF7 has better character models in battle ONLY than FF8/FF9 for they don't look a little blurry like those 2 games

That's actually one of my small gripes about FFVIII: they take long before attacking.

I know that it's more realistic but from a pure gameplay standpoint I still think that practicality triumphs over realism because this is an action you're doing a lot of time in your playthrough.

I like FFX's attack being instant after clicking on the enemy but when you use an item they have a "pull out item from the pocket" animation which makes it a bit too long for its own good.

Timing and rhythm are important factor for a game, especially when repeating the same actions.

You have a point in it being too long sometimes that it drags

FF8 felt very experimental and animations being more realistic is definitely on the list of different stuff Squaresoft attempted to experiment with in FF8

Still the game has such Bombastic and anime level ultimates especially for Squall and those go haaaard

I know that Final Fantasy is about experimentation but the "Magic Stealing" battle system and the Guardian Forces are quite unclear and not intuitive compared to the Materia.

My other gripe is that it was an even bigger departure from the fantasy setting (at least VII had some classic FF elements such as the Mega Materia being like the Crystals from the 2D games).

IX went back to the classics and X had some mix between the two but it wasn't the same after Square merged with Enix.

magic stealing was straight forward no? Just click button then choose magic button to steal then get magic stolen what's difficult about it?

The junction system being a huge maze now that's something i will say yes to because i didn't realize amount of magic effected how good your junction is until disc 4!!!

And some magics having better performance on some stats while great and fun to experiment with can be a headache at first

I loved the GF system because it made summons pretty important and kept all summons useful throughout the game unlike other FF games where Ifrit or Shiva are strong early-mid game but fall off late game which isn't the case for FF8 it's a positive thing in my opinion to keep all summons and builds open and viable throughout the game
