Consoles back then often used a very specific soundchip model before streamed audio became the standard, even FFVII used the PSX' internal chip for most of its OST (so that's why the PC re-release are sounding slightly differently).
It wasn't just FFVII. All the FF games at least until XII primarily used sequenced music for soundtracks. and the RPGs that don't on PSX are exceptions (Suikoden, Grandia).

Original Final Fantasy beaten for the second time by me!

Since i tried the original game difficulty first time i played i decided to play easy mode this time

And the difference is just massive , you level up faster and get more gold each fight!!!

The best thing about it however is the much higher magic points it's so good to actually have decent amount of healing and not saving spells for bosses only , having quite the liberty to use spells makes the gameplay a lot more dynamic

But, from what i read and seen in the game so far i can confidently say the intelligence bug is still not fixed........this combined with the already high magic defense for most enemies and the very odd damage of spells being insanely random like 30-120 damage??? That's just very inconsistent

This run was insanely easy because i didn't choose the thief as part of the team , instead i decided to focus a lot more on physical damage with monk/warrior and hell even the red mage deals good physical damage

Its crazy that nearly every late game fight had Samuro the monk critical hit everything , he one shotted Kraken Loooool

Honestly there are many ways to make this game a lot more enjoyable without removing the original magic system , treating it similarly to FF3 magic system was the best thing in easy mode and it should be like this in both modes not just easy!!!

Hell easy mode could be made more difficult, so from what i understand you get x2 the XP/gil which could and should be reduced to x1.5 instead of x2

I had to fight nearly every battle in my first playthrough to even get to level 35 and that's when i beaten chaos , it took some grinding near the volcano to get there too

Water combat gets very stale fast , and i would remove it entirely after you beat the Lich , the open seas have limited enemy pool to draw from and those get boring to fight quickly and are a waste of time too

I would keep river/canoe combat up until fire fiend is killed then completely remove it or limit it to certain areas

Oh and i would actually like more gameplay effects when you activate a crystal , every continent that has its crystal restored should become safe (for the most part) you will still encounter enemies but at a lower rate

Also i don't recall there being this many random encounters like hot damn it's too much and you can't explore freely without getting constantly interrupted , i would slightly decrease that but not too much since it's the only way to level up after all and changing things like this can drastically alter the game and maybe even unintentionally cause under level parties to become a thing

Regarding magic i think increasing the overall damage of all magics would make them a lot more viable , instead of 30-120 it would be something like 90-120 same for healing and potions too , since these heal random amounts of HP which isn't very good

Of course the thief needs to become actually useful , i was surprised a little when i got some 7 enemy strikes first encounters one after another!!! The thief i think should reduce the chance of those happening , he also can have pretty high critical hit rate or just higher evasion/luck/agility , i know later versions buffed the guy but i looking at what they did it just doesn't feel enough to sacrifice a spot for a red mage or a monk for the thief.......

Replaying this game is making me consider getting into modding for PS1 games or as everyone else in this sphere calls it "ROM hacking" yeah it's just modding but more fancy term kek

Most importantly for me is fix intelligence issue , buff magic so it's as viable if not more viable than physical attacks , change encounter rate dynamics , oh and actually fix the chaos shrine theme being used for the water shrine and the water shrine getting used in the past chaos shrine which is odd

Combat didn't get interesting until these MFs showed up , oh and there is something with FF1/FF2 having bombastic animations for spells but when it comes to damage the spell is rather underwhelming for its supposed effect.......

Red mage Adrian: Tiamat is a programmer?

Tia the white mage: what's a programmer? A new type of magic???

Oh, neat, I never played through this version of the game. Did they ever balance the Sorcerer enemies in the Ice Cave? Those were hilarious in the NES version. :D
