I returned to play this game since it's one of those early FF games I have ever played (alongside IV to VI ofc). 100% sure this was technically the first one I have ever owned physically, so it does have a huge personal value for me.
So, ok: we all know the remastered sucks and shouldn't be the version to be played considering how they butchered the multiplayer, right? Perfect.
Well, the game definitely spurs to be played in co-op, which I'm sure it will be much funnier and very helpful rather than solo-ing everything.
Of course I'm aware that getting better equipment after a map/level exploration (however you wanna call that, which is still explore area, beating the boss and get the Myrrh drop).
This said: god...the controls haven't aged well. No matter if you play it with the GC controller or the GBA itself. The latter is very immersive and, once again, one of those games that on Wii U would have been awesome to replay (alongside Four Sword Adventures and other GBA-controller compatible GC games).
The fact that magic works like Super Attack (pressing A to be charged) is really disappointing. Fighting enemies is much more clunkier than I remembered. I can kinda see why I sold it back to Gamestop, but thankfully this game is surprisingly pretty cheap to get back (15 bucks and complete <3 ).
It's still one of the best looking GC games. Not a surprise considering who made it. Square Soft just became Square Enix, and in the same year they released FF X-2.
