Favorite Roguelikes?

The Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon are my favorites by far, and Dead Cells in the second places. But to no say the most popular, I could mention Neurovoider, Dungeon of the Endless, and Crying Suns. All of them highly recommended.

Crying suns is a tactical space-ship battle game, more paused, and with a more interesting history.

Neurovoider plays in the same league that Enter the gungeon or nuclear throne, frenetic shooter, more hardcore, and very colorful.

Dungeon of the Endless is my favorite of those, is a mix of tower defense turn based and in active time. Basically, the gameplay is in active time, but every time you open a door in the duungeon, the time advance one turn.

Dead Estate and Death Road To Canada are probably my current faves right now, they both got that goofy/campy b-movie horror vibe that I enjoy so much
Glad to see another Dead Estate fan on here. It's one of my favorite games of all time, especially after the release of the Goodnight update. The Leviathan is personally among my favorite boss fights in the games I've played, honestly.

I haven’t played a lot, but I really like Void Terrarium series, it’s focused and clean with a great overall vibe. NIS are geniuses when they’re not level grinding everything.

i like Ancient Dungeon that's a VR game

unfortunately i don't have enough room where i currently live to play it :(((((((

Heart and Slash is a fun one, though a bit unpolished. Kinda plays like a toned down DMC with equips and stats. Go Mecha Ball is a top contender even if just for how good the audio/visual feedback is, Enemy is a rare case of a turn-based strategy game I actually love immensely, and Scourgebringer makes my brain vibrate.

I don't play a lot of Roguelikes, but 20XX and 30XX are really great if you're a fan of Megaman X type gameplay.

Its my favorite pokemon game and in my personal top 10 games of all time as well
PMD is pretty cool. It exists as a sort of interesting subset of console roguelikes that has taken many, many themes over the years, though it maintained a similar structure throughout. It's similar to Musou games in this regard (similar mechanics, varied themes).

Off the top of my head I can remember, besides Pokémon: Torneko (Dragon Quest themed), Shiren (original character, and my personal favorite way to to enjoy these), and Chocobo, but really there are countless variants.

they, I want to try out a couple of the shiren games at some point

also the series has its own wiki

I had no idea there was a wiki, that's pretty cool.

Oh noes, it's that can of worms! LOL jokes aside, I get you, it's just that terminology is such an endless rabbit hole.

Random person: what’s your favorite roguelike?
Rage: *thirty hundred word essay about definition of the genre*

On a serious note I agree with you

I forgot one: Dig Dog!

Really simple but fun premise. You know what really makes it a roguelite? There's a shopkeeper on it and you can rob him :devilish:
LOL this rarely ends well in games like this, but there's something of a thrill regarding risk, hm.

My all time favorite would be Azure Dreams. But series wise would be the mystery dungeon games, mainly the ones involving Shiren the Wanderer.

while it's not completely roguelike, i liked the binding of isaac. dead cells was pretty good as well.

Cataclysm dark days ahead, I can be engrossed for hours just in the act of creating the world(Rules, size, more or less urban or rural, etc), The character creation is also very compelling not just the number but in the traits, both positive and negative, like being schizophrenic and start hallucinating inside a car going at high speeds.
Considering your choices, you could begin your journey armed with nothing but a bath towel, and trapped in a burning boulding, for example.
