Extremely Weird And Obscure Games

btw never heard of this one, I just gave it a look. Seems pretty playable with minimal Japanese knowledge. The minigame instructions seem pretty easy to read. Might give this one a try. Its cool we're getting an official translation but if I can't play it on my PS1 I don't really care. ::eggmanlaugh

Odd Job? why they translate games like shit? the word arubaito means literaly "part time job". So, this game's title is "Milano's part time jobs", period lol.
I think it works. An "odd job" is a job that you don't plan on keeping for an extensive time period.

Also, given that this game is just a simulation/minigame compilation, it just makes perfect sense to call it an "odd job."

An odd job is like a part time job you don't plan on doing for very long, or like a small one time job.

Not exactly. An odd job can be full-time job, but arubaito is specifically part-time job. So, all arubaito can be odd jobs but not all jobs can be arubaito.

Then, Milano is working 4 hours a day in the japanese version, but 8 hours a day in the english version? lol

Or she's doing odd jobs for 4 hours of day and there's actually zero contradiction? Bad translations exist but this is fine.

It looks like something that would have come out on the PC FX, kind of a niche product that is barely a real game. Hopefully the dub is optional and you can play with subs, but I won't play it anyway so I guess I have no reason to complain either way.

Then I expect a remake that changes part-time jobs to odd jobs!!!!! lol

Welp, guess I know what I'm doing later lol.
The box art alone had me intrigued. It looks adorable.

(I just found out that it was developed by Westone; the team behind "Monster World IV" on Sega Genesis. Now I HAVE to play this.)
oh hell yeah, i love Westone games.. i need to go back and check now if there are any other games theyve put out i had no idea about..

It is one of those games that make me realize that while I am aware my backlog as a gamer is massive, full of games I likely will never get around to, AND that I may never even get around to this one.... part of what I think being a gamer is about, is not necessarily playing everything you discover and become aware of, but just as must just appreciating it and sharing it with others.
I try to prioritize playing obscure, hidden gem type games because they are the ones that don't get much love or attention. Plus, they are the ones likely to surprise me while popular and mainstream games usually provide experiences that are very familiar.

Playing something unique and fresh, or playing another Zelda game? I'll pick the game that's offering something different.

Need to go back and play through with Japanese audio on this one.

Maken X / Maken Shao is mine. Despite the popularity of Atlus games (particularly Persona and SMT) in recent years you never really see that one spoken about much. It's rough around the edges and the official translation for the Dreamcast is pretty difficult to follow (at least I found), but it has a lot going for it gameplay and story wise, and definitely deserves more eyes.

Dude significant part of video game library is Japanese. Back then you would find Japanese games more instead of English (I exclude Americanos and Europeans because world revolves around them) lol.
Well Americans certainly seem to think the world revolves around them. Whenever I watch a video saying "x game was released in Japan x year, and then in the States x year", I am like "wtf did Europe do to you to get excluded, ya twat??" Then I'd rather when they say "Japan and the West" or "Japan and internationally". That at least includes everyone.

But yeah, deliberate tanget aside, you are right in your sentiment, but "insert Roxas meme here" (you know the one).

I highly agree! And more obscure games NEED love and attention.

There is a game for ps2 called "Urban Chaos: Riot Police." It is silly in some areas with some (limited) puzzle aspects. It has a couple different level types, like its normal get to the end of the level that ends with a hostage situation with over-the-top defeat scenes, i remember speed levels. The better you do in the level, gets you equipment unlocks (guns, grenade types, more ammo), the more unlocks, better you can do. I think it has replay value and this is the first time i was able to mention it to anybody rather than the one friend who showed me this game.

It may not be retro yet, but it was released in 2006, by RockSteady. This may have finished up or had a little overlap with their Batman: Arkham Asylum. So that's fun. Seeing this game followed by batman.

Specially when they "demand" english dub. Like that was something a developer would have to give them to saciate their lack of culture and respect towards other's job.

And there are French who would want the world to make French an international language again. My mes amis refuse to have anything to do with foreign languages, even English so they act like they only know French by demanding French-only despite they know English well, even in random countries they go lolol.

Always end up replaying it every once in a while, it's nothing special but I think it's neat.
There's something... inexplicably good about 7th Saga. I'm not sure what it is, exactly, and I've seen others not be able to figure it out either, while still admitting they *feel* it. If you know, you know.

I mean, here in Denmark I am so sick and tired of going into a souvenir store with a Swedish casheer speaking English to me because she believes we can't communicate otherwise, when in reality Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian are so close together most of us understand each other fine. But noooo... we immediately default to English when languages scare us.

I am also tired of encountering Danish pitchers on the pedestrian street who, when asking "if I have a minute" start off asking "English or Danish?" Like, first off they assume I don't know Danish in Denmark. Second, they always ask English first AND they ASK in bloody English. Excuse me when I say I feel my mothertongue is getting bloody devoured from the inside.

As an American I'm beginning to feel attacked. lol
In general I don't think Americans "demand" anything -- its just that the USA is such a large market which speaks one single language that it often makes financial sense to companies to cater to it, at least more than they cater to some other markets.

That's one part. The other, and this is not the fault of the ordinary American citizen, is that English is taking up more and more space in different countries and it creates resentment. I think the main reason for this shift is the Internet. American content dominates because it's the largest and richest Western country (most of us don't speak Chinese or Indian languages so we won't watch that content), which has a strong influence on people around the world since we spend so much time online. Even a forum like this is an example of it. I think English has its place as an "international language" - we probably always need one of those, and it's English now. But when the local language loses too much ground in the real world it bothers a lot of people who grew up with it and also enjoy their local culture.

Yeah thats very understandable. I think its good for people to take pride in their national culture/language/etc.

I had no idea about your culture but it seems like a very weird shit. I guess people using English to "don't assume" if people are from Denmark or Sweden or Norway because I had an experience that this kind of stuff offends people from many parts of the world. Really weird shit like using "they" instead of "he" and "she" lol.

My only relation to this topic is sometimes people in touristic peoples or any shop "got used to" tourists mistake me for a tourist and trying to communicate with me in English and I say in our native tongue "dude I'm not a tourist" because let's say my parents are "not from around here" so it reflected on me physically lol. Sometimes I don't bother and speak English and then act like I know little of the native tongue just for lolz of it lol. I even had a funny moment in high school that some tourist couple from England was like "oh bloody hell, finally a guy not from here" and asked me for directions (thanks to my momma and her British genes lol). Apparently they were annoyed that no one could comprehend what they were saying lol.

Well among many countries ok with subtitles Americans and French are the one demanding dubs a lot and they are okay with it even if the dubs is really shitty, and then they feel entitled to ruin the original material for the sake of a pointless dub. For example:

The most of the anime's dub is random BS, but hey this is what it makes it funny lolol.

In the end non offense Americanos because it's their culture so no point in attacking but personally American culture is repulsive and very funny. Many cultures can be weird but Americans are not just weird, it's like a serious sitcom reality so I'm glad they exist so we can have a good laugh or two watching news or something lolol.

Not dissing it, just sharing my experience

The game has good ideas, the subtle sprite change of enemies in the ropes, the practical "Shopkeepers tell you how better your new spoil will be and offer to buy your old weapon" mechanic and the fact the enemies are visible in-map

But the difficulty is so...UGH, not helped bu the fact the menu has crumped names and that if you want a specific party member be ready to eat (DIRT), even with all those "Easy" mods i wasn't even able to get past the fourth Mcguffin

Boy some foreigners have really fragile egos based on this thread...

As I said, I don't think Americans in general "demand" dubs or anything else. We make our own media to a greater extent than probably any other country and just because dubs exist doesn't mean Americans are out here sending emails and "demanding" things.
And of course I prefer to hear media in my mother language. If it's done well. I think most people would rather hear things in a language they actually understand. But that doesnt mean I'm out here demanding things, what a silly idea.

As far as I can tell, these companies just decide it will sell better if they do it so they do it. And sometimes (especially a few decades ago) they do a really bad job with it. Sometimes they do a great job with it. But either way, it doesn't "ruin" the original because the original still exists and is available for you.

If you feel my culture is "repulsive" thats your opinion and you're entitled to it.
But I think you have some very misinformed ideas about what American culture actually is.
