DOOM THREAD

There is a Stray Doom mod where you play as a kitty cat. :3

I'll be honest, as much as I wanna play Doom Eternal the Ancient Gods Part 1&2 and Doom The Dark Ages I really don't like the lore and "viking/nordic mythos/metal" ambience and would've preferred something morel like the original games or even the Doom 3 lore with the Martian Civilization...

Then again New Doom is overdoing with story and lore when those are very secondary in the originals.

Every time I see this I have to wonder what the hell is up with that hairline. I feel like I'm not really seeing what the artist intended here.
Maybe that's a buzz cut in the future. Everyone in the space marines has em? lol

Been playing Doom since I was a toddler and it always scared the absolute shit out of me. Have much love for Chex Quest and I'll often bust it out (very excited that the Bethesda Doom+Doom 2 collection has it in the mods section)

I think one of the most impressive total conversions that I've seen is Memoirs Of Magic by strawberryoctopus

I can understand why the 2D demons could be scary. I need to do Chex 3 someday.

I remember that one Total Conversion because one character is apparently in another fangame.

I remember playing Doom 64 for the first time years ago (long before the Nightdive port) and it certainly brought back memories of being too scared to play it at some points. I'd even argue that it's better at the horror/atmosphere aspect than the original two Doom games

Recently I've updated my Sourceports (DSDA Doom, Crispy, Chocolate) and even added new ones like Woof and Nyan Doom.

I've also felt nostalgic and installed old school yet discontinued ones like ZDoom and PrBoom+.

I liked to use ZDL (especially since Crispy isn't drag 'n drop) but Doom Runner is pretty much its successor with even better options to choose from. I still wish DSDA Launcher was included in the executable.

GZDoom is basically noob level of using wads and mods since you just need to drag and drop what you need into the executable but I also am not nerdy enough to properly use a .bat or shortcut with -commands in it...

Also it's perfect for deciding the order of your pwads.

Got into a pretty solid death match in the bethesda Doom 1+2 release yesterday.

I highly recommend these 2 DOOM WADs together. Some of the most fun I've had in a while

Only beat (not 100% for every secrets and nook and cranny ofc) the og 1993 Doom and Doom 64, but I did tried all the main ones except Dark Ages.
Maybe it's blasphemous to say, but I found Doom II more the samey unlike Doom 64 (even if some levels there were not that great, but still a very fun game). I should definitely keep with 2016 and Eternal.

There are also Rocket Launcher and Doom Explorer that are nice launchers.

How's the ping and gameplay compared to Odamex, Zdaemon or Zandronum?

I don't know what Diamond Dragon is but I'll check it out.

Auger; Zenith is great, I need to check other stuff from the same team/mappers.

I love how it's just Limit Removing, I kinda want to see more modern megawads being just that (or Boom compatible) without the crazy stuff ZDoom has added. Sometimes I appreciate the simplicity of a wad that doesn't delve too far from Doom.

Honestly I have only 100%-ed Doom's first episode but I don't feel like doing UVMax for the entire saga.

Dark Ages is the first time Doom hasn't hyped me up sadly.

Doom 64 is extended from Doom II which itself is an expansion of Doom.

That's not blasphemous when the games are similar.

I need to do The Ancient Gods Part 1&2 soon.

Some hot Doom modder drama this morning

tl;dr: Developer comes back to GZDoom after a hiatus, pushes a bunch of LLM-generated code without approval, told everyone to spin-off the project if they didn't like it, and so they did. Sounds like UZDoom might be the major Doom source port going forwards.

I was originally introduced the legendary series via the OG Shareware Doom in the mid-90's..
Some years later I played through most of the PS1 port (before it was stolen)
Later on, I played & beaten the original Xbox port of Doom 3 (it, too, was stolen)

But now I'm (off & on) playing through OG Doom via the (PS3) 'BFG edition.' So far I've beaten the original 3 scenarios, and I'm about to tackle the 4th & final one, before moving on to the sequel(s)..

Lol!

Is this yet another of Le Salty No Chicken Graf Zahl's antics?

I don't really follow drama (especially since some are profiting from them to get popular) but damn, that dude has one of the most popular engine solely because of modders around using it as a base. Without mods like Brutal Doom (which sparked back interest towards Doom before the 2016 semi-reboot/revival came out) he would've faded into obscurity (outside of the "ZDoom but with OpenGL rendering" aspect).

In fact this dude got popular only because he has forked a source port he didn't even create (well, he joined subsequently to the team but still) so he's more like a hack than someone that got recognised because he has created something new from A to Z...

I hope we'll see an actually new Sourceport that would be as versatile as this one while being better optimised and if possible being able to replicate almost perfectly the original engine with its quirks...

@90snomad Mind explaining?

I'm just glad to see the new team has their priorities straight. /s
