DOOM THREAD

I played SO MUCH FRIGGIN DOOM as a kid.
As a kid I had a pc that was a few generations too old to keep up with what was happening at the time... but I had Doom. And boy-howdy I loved it.

Doom is love, Doom is life

Hey, does anyone here have anything good to say about Doom Eternal? I liked Doom 2016, but I heard the sequel was just more of the same, so I never felt like I needed to play it. Is the console version worth a buy if I can get it on sale?

I tried Brutal Doom for the first time the other week, it was definitely a different experience and looking at it from the perspective of how much work it probably took I can respect it. That being said I still prefer vanilla I think. It had almost too much going on, I just want to circle strafe and shoot my super shotty, you know?

I was taking a look through the new official Doom 1+2 source port Bethesda put out a month or so ago at the WADs people have already ported over (which is what made me try out Brutal Doom) and there's some good stuff on there. Been playing Bastardos, a western WAD that made me miss LucasArt's Outlaws. Highly recommend it.

I just started playing on gzdoom with Project Brutality (staging), Maps of Chaos 4, and Corruption Cards 6. It's an absolute blast and it is hard as nails! Maps of Chaos adds tons of side rooms to most of DOOM and DOOM II's maps. There are also three difficulty levels, with the last one being literally overkill. Corruption Cards adds a deck of over 200 cards; you draw three at the beginning of each level and draw one whose effect persists for the duration of the run (they are mostly negative). It is also highly compatible with most mod loadouts from what I understand.

Besides vanilla DOOM, this is really the only setup I have. I'm interested in hearing about awesome WADs to try!

I don't know how much of an unpopular opinion this is but I think that Doom 64 is one of the best Doom games.
It has a really cool atmosphere, it feels unlike any other game in the series, well maybe except Doom 3.
Of course I am mostly talking about the PC port, I don't think it's too fun to play on console.

Funny story... when I first got an internet connection (in 2004), DOOM was my most wanted game, yet I couldn't find it anywhere. It was as if the internet had passed it on entirely (and it really didn't help that a language barrier prevented me from looking for it on English-speaking places).

Then MONTHS later, I found that many of the sites I had originally tried DID have it. I just didn't know what "Abandonware" meant, and never clicked XD But that opened a whole new world for me.

If you haven´t, try the "new" "Doom + Doom 2" release on steam.

It lacks certain stuff some launchers add, like jumping or aiming up/down (wich was a big modification, absolutely impossible on vanilla) but its still really good and promising. It adds an amazing remade soundtrack (from an artist wich released it on youtube a lot of time, and got chosen for this release) and enhanced options on multiple aspects.

It also offers easy online multiplayer without need of additional software, both coop and pvp

But most interesting thing is that it allows to upload, search and download wads and modifications from a built-in menu. Probably not every single WAD, depending on if they relied on modified launchers or addons.

It may revitalize the scene of wads. Well, not like ever got dead, but anyway making it easily accesible to check and download the wads from within the game surely can make it spread among people who wouldn´t bother on downloading third party launchers and stuff outside the game.

Guys you have to try Doom Infinite, it's basically Doom II as a roguelike with a high degree of replayability, lots of

items, the sheer complexity and polish of this mod is truly something to behold. I've only played it for a little while and I can honestly say it's already one of the best mods for Doom that I've played.

Picked up the Doom 1 & 2 port off GOG a while ago and been playing a modified Doom port for the GBA and having a lot of fun. Finished Episode 2 over the weekend.

Its the latest port, named "Doom + Doom 2"? That release is amazing, with remade OST (optional!) multiplayer and the ability to get (even upload your own!) mods (WADs) straight from a browser withing the game.

Recently been deatmatching against bots with Brutal Doom on.

It's been quite the experience, particularly as they really take advantage of the larger maps.

As for me, nowadays I play Doom games on my good old DSi via DS Doom: with this you can play vanilla or PrBoom compatible wads via argv argument launched through TwilightMenu. My favorites are the various community project megawads, where every single map reflects the unique and different style of its author. Don't forget about Freedoom 1/2 both with unique and distinct features and also playable on DSi.

Yo lets talk about WADs, what are your favorites?
Action Doom 1 and 2 no doubt first one is a metal slug inspired fps second one is a first person beatem up with fully voiced comicbook cutsences multiple endings and an awesome original soundtrack.

BRUTAL DOOM SUCKS
DOOM 2016 SUCKS
DOOM ETERNAL SUCKS

TIME TRIPPER DOESN'T SUCK. PLAY TIME TRIPPER.
STG PROJECTILES. TRACKER MUSIC. MORE THAN TWO COLORS.
A REAL WAD FOR REAL SUPERTASTERS

I'm late to the party but almost a year ago I played several good wads.

Auger; Zenith is a top tier cyberpunk themed wad. I also played Perdition's Gate as it's the unofficial third megawad for Final Doom and Icarus Alien Vanguard (which I think is superior to TNT Evilution in many ways).

I am that kind of old school guy who prefers Megawads that doesn't use GZDoom's DECORATE/Zscript functionalities because I genuinely think that GZDoom is more of its own engine than Doom.

PS: Oh and Amorphous Euphoria is quite nice, especially with DSDA Doom (rip PrBoom+).

I tried Brutal Doom for the first time the other week, it was definitely a different experience and looking at it from the perspective of how much work it probably took I can respect it. That being said I still prefer vanilla I think. It had almost too much going on, I just want to circle strafe and shoot my super shotty, you know?
Same, I used to love Doom thanks to Brutal Doom (around the v17-v18 version) but as time goes on I started to not like it as much. The latest version added to much bloat imo and Doom wasn't built with BD in mind.

I'd rather play custom maps with gameplay wads (like Guncaster and Demonsteele).
