Discord server shutdown

Here's the info on the threats.

To clarify what happened here:
SwordBreaker39 goes to the discord server and says this:

The mods ban SwordBreaker39. Discord can be a cesspool of racism and transphobia. When a new member starts like that they get rid of them, that's just how things are handled there.
I don't take part on moderating discord.
He sends me a DM asking why was he banned. I'm not home, at this point I don't know, I get home, SwordBreaker39 already deleted their forum account.
I check the logs, 3 people commented he should kill himself. these people:

My mods deleted the comments, but did not ban the users.
I issued the ban and instructed such comments should also be straight ban.
Mods are collaborators, not paid, they do what they can I cannot take it on them for not doing what I would have done.

This 100%, I'm just curious about what the drama was because I'm the kind of person who loves Jerry Springer, and Maury and shit like that. Spike made the right decision though.

Unfortunately, I don't know that myself. I know some people were being very nasty and nothing was done about it, but that's as far as my knowledge on the topic goes.

On a personal note: the Discord was the only part of the site I wouldn't have helped with. It always gave me really off vibes for some reason.

It IS hard to moderate the server on top of everything, that's why it was closed. The mods weren't doing their job (as far as I can tell) and Spike had no time for keeping an eye on it on top of everything else, so the only real choice was to close it.

I support his decision to shut down the discord server. Still a little honesty wouldn't hurt. He should admit that he shut down the server because the mods couldn't do their job properly with them not banning the assholes that did the death threats.

Discord is too depersonalized for something like we're trying to run here. We can't have any crazy liabilities or drama like what had clearly happened. It's hard to go off on a weird tangent when you're limited to a post.

I would be a little careful with posting messages with political references as saying stuff like this can trigger someone's feelings and start a debate which i believe is unwelcomed here (I think? I continue to forget if politics are against the rules (which they should))

Would anyone be willing to make a second attempt at doing this? I don't think itll be run by Spike this time, but I'm a little curious to know if anyone would be willing to have a second go at a Discord, truly finding the right admins/mods to choose and such.

But what about the other sites that RGT is on? For instance, theres (now) a reddit page for this site; Discord was one of the other places that this site was on.

There's a reddit for just about everything. What do you want me to say? If you want to make a discord noone is going to stop you, but maybe don't drag the forum into it? Spike clearly doesn't want anything to do with a discord.

I think I already mentioned this somewhere in the board, but a forum we had just gotten up and running again (and that had existed for 15 years at that point) got killed because the community made their own Discord and banned forum staff from helping, or even joining.

discord is good only for private discord server for you and your close online/offline friends. public discord servers are trash (at least most of them) even if the creators/owners have/had pure intentions for them.

Im fine with maintaining my own server rather than an RGT, this place is special becsuse it has... alright im not saying it again this time xD

I won't take a place someone else has established and bring it onto a platform where nobody wants to be connected to it ?

discord is good only for private discord server for you and your close online/offline friends. public discord servers are trash (at least most of them) even if the creators/owners have/had pure intentions for them

Or just talking to people without even joining a Discord server; people always forget that youre able to communicate on there without ever having to join one

Regular members, some who had been really good contributors. It was almost amazing how fast and hard they sunk that.
