Description

This is an English patch for the game Brightis on PS1!

You can find the patch page here: PATCH PAGE LINK

Enjoy!

Thanks man this is fantastic! this was one of the hidden gems on PS1 it was even released on PS VITA store WITH virtual PS1 Pocket support! this was long overdue thank guys devs, translators and you guys
Sounds that Vita version is the one that needs to be translated. I didn't know they had PS1 games on Vita that had PocketStation working through a virtual version of it. That sounds epic as hell. I'd like to play this game on my Vita translated and with PocketStation working in it.

so another princess crown situation then? people were saying this translation was machine translated but it's too good quality for it to be, so seems more like sour grapes that someone else put something out when they didn't tbh

Fuck yeah. This is one of a few games I was most curious about and literally have in a notepad save that amounts to, basically "If I ever learn Japanese, check these games out"
This along with Rune Jade and I believe a couple Lunatic Dawn games are the top RPGs I was really intrigued by or thought looked like something I'd potentially really be interested in if only I could actually understand them.
I'm already incredibly grateful to the translators who worked on Segagaga and the Devil Summoner fan translation patches in recent times. I cannot understate that enough. I know I'm just a random stranger on the internet but on the off chance you worked on those, or really contribute to any fan translation, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. I apologize for the ungrateful or misplaced frustration a-holes who complain about circumstances where, like Segagaga for example, some of it used AI for translation but was combed over by hand manually. Look, I get not liking AI. I'm literally one of those people. I even was offered a job working in that field and declined it purely on an ethical basis which my family was frustrated at me for "But think about the money" and I responded with "So because of monetary gain, it's okay to compromise my values?" So I'm not some kind of AI apologist.
Instead, the way I view it, at the end of the day, I would not be able to understand or play and be able to enjoy these games regardless, period, had someone not come along and translated them. If AI was used at some point in that process, while I can not be a fan of that very specifically, I feel my appreciation and gratitude for being able to experience and actually understand and have access to a new work of art and entertainment, significantly outweighs that.

Apologies if this comment sounds largely unrelated due to going off on a tangent. I was trying to moreso convey specifically that, regardless, no matter what, I support and incredibly appreciate all fan translations and those who've committed their own personal time and effort into bringing a translation to myself and the rest of the community. I just wanted to say thank you for that. Not everyone seems to always be as appreciative.

Thanks for helping clear this up some. I will say that the NPC dialogue in this is rather hard to follow along with. I dunno if it was translated with the help of AI or not, but the text formatting is so tightly packed in the text boxes that it makes it even harder to read.

I could understand the opening intro text scroll part pretty well, but the moment that wizard dude started talking I probably only got like half of what he was saying.
They said they were going for a kind of old english feel because the game "is like a fable", I wonder if that's why. IMO it's stupid, every RPG could be described that way and that's no reason to make dialogue a pain to read.

Here is the timeline:
1. Original team make an open-source repository
2. Wado fork it, make his translation based on that.
3. Wado release the patch on his own github and romhacking.net, he label it "1.0"
4. Romhack.ing admin reupload the patch to the site, label it "1.0"
5. Dick debonair, member from the original team registered an account on romhack.ing and updated the tag to "0.01"

Regarding the AI translation, wado said it was re-translated from scratch

I don't know HOW he translated it though, but in the original team repository they listed DeepL on their list of tools so maybe that's the reason people claim it's an AI.

The full conversation can be found here: https://github.com/WadoTranslations/ps1-brightis-english/issues/1

And one thing to note is that they didn't hate each other, so there's no drama here (i think). Dick debonair even invite wado to join the team.

I love Quintet stuff and didn't know this existed, so I gotta play it. It really does look like Souls before Demon's Souls. Much more than Blade of Darkness does.

The rom.hack page has the status as unfinished and says it needs more work, while the github page says it's finished and credits the "original team". So it reads as if someone took an unfinished patch and completed it, basically. I sure would like more info. Did the original team approve, or are we going to get some drama like it happened recently? Was it finished properly, or did some rando just run all the missing text through AI?
Game looks good, I like Quintet and Shade (even Granstream Saga was way better than people say), and if it's a decent translation, it's very good news.

EDIT - Are we sure the patches on github and the other site are actually the same version? Looking at the screenshots, it doesn't look like a finished patch, with that weird text formatting.

I re-translated the game from the Japanese from scratch, with your team's English alongside as a reference while mining the text.
