Agreed. No More Heroes 2's final boss was so bad that I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be meta on how revenge is unsatisfying or something.

First one's that come to mind for me are Frank Fontaine in Bioshock 1 and Titan Joker in Arkham Asylum. Both felt like pretty unnecessary obligations to having a final boss, and Titan Joker in particular kinda misses the point of the Joker as a character.

Also, the Doom 2 Icon of Sin. FUCK the Icon of Sin! Pure RNG, you get a couple Archvile's or Pain Elemental's? Better load that quicksave, bucko! I just mouselook it away when I play nowadays.

Fontaine felt to me like i wasn't playing Bioshock anymore. It's a surely weirdly designed boss fight, i think the devs were just tired at this point.

Icon of Sin is way cooler on paper than actually fighting it. Doom 2 sometimes feel untested by the devs lmao

Dude. Just type in "IDCLIP" in the console, run into the centre of the Icon of Sin, and unload boomstick at the core of the monster. It's very easy.

Now, if you're wondering about MY worst final boss in a game... Wolfenstein. Fucking. 2009. Hans. Motherfucking. Grosse.

Need I say more? One of the most unfair and exhausting final bosses ever put in an FPS game. Thank god for The New Order and the much overdue final confrontation with Deathshead to show us how a REAL final battle is done...

i think that was supposed to be the theme. it works a bit on it's own. several characters in the story are out for revenge. skelter helter, alice twilight, and batt jr. of course.
it works slightly better if you played the first game and did all if the side missions. you apparently killed his dad and older brothers when going through all of the side missions. so his motivation makes sense.
without that, it just comes out of nowhere.

but i think i would argue that the cloud of darkness is one of the worst final bosses ever.
nes version spams a single attack that hits around 1,300 - 1,500 hp. you most likely have that amount or slightly double that. the ds version gets 4 turns per round, and all actions are pretty much completely random. it may go before your entire team, you might get one attack and a spell off before it gets 2 of its actions off, it might spam its aoe attack 2 in a row; you never know how it is going to fight.

Too slow. Enable mouselook and rocket it the second I teleport into the room. I want it out of my sight.

I will add that I appreciate when fan mods take steps to make the Icon better. The Digital Icon from TNT Revilution was actually pretty great imo.

Definitely Odin from GoW: Ragnarok. Just like Baldur from the previous game, he's just a reskinned elite enemy. He also uses the same gimmick as Baldur(couldn't they find a new gimmick for the final boss, really?) and he's easier than most elite enemies. This time it's also a 3v1 so you can just stunlock Odin and complete the fight without breaking a sweat. Really a disgrace for GoW series, both as a game and a final boss.

Just the other day I fought Babel in SMT Devil survivor and I gotta say, the final boss secretly then putting you into another mission where you gotta fight every other boss in the game and then a super duper final boss whos stronger than any of them with no mp refill in between was a kick in the teeth

I never found Babel to be particulary hard even on my first playthrough of Devil Survivor, if you were able to get past Beldr and Belial you should probably have most decent skills cracked and a pretty good grasp of the fusion system so unless you fuse your demons wrong Babel should fall pretty easily. Also the boss rematches and final Babel fight were piss easy since they died almost instantly for me even on Naoya's and Amane's routes

The back-to-back final boss fights in Parasite Eve 2. Eve is the true final boss and she isn't that hard, I only lost to her a couple times, but having to fight Brahman before her with no saving or anything is a nightmare. He's not even dreadfully hard, just cheap and most annoyingly, inconsistent. In theory, his big beam attack is easily avoidable, but I had one hell of a time doing so. I'd fire one shot with the grenade launcher when the core became exposed and start running. It was always a coin flip if it'd actually work though. The hitbox for the beam attack seemed kinda unreasonable.

Oh look, it's another back-to-back fight against two bosses! You guessed it, Nobunaga and the Golden Evil Statue from Onimusha 2. Nobunaga is pretty difficult by himself, but doable once you learn his attack patterns. The statue is just a cunt though. Hope you've have plenty of practice wanking, because it's a button mashing nightmare. He's not even super hard, just cheap and lacks any good feedback that you're actually doing anything. The best part? If you lose you have to go back and fight Nobunaga as well! Yes, I know NES games had boss rushes that make my two examples look like you're just playing Candy Crush, but I'm still not a fan.

Honestly, Golbez from Final Fantasy II (IV). Nobody cares. He's a counterfeit Darth Vader with zero personality, he's there to be there. He turns into something weird, ans you destroy it, in pure FF style, even back in '92 or whatever.

He's the most vanilla boss ever, IMO.
golbez isn't the final boss of ff4. zemus is. he was certainly inspired by vader. zemus is mention once before golbez is recruited to the heroes side before the final dungeon is unlocked.
zemus doesn't have much going for him. you get like three lines in the 3d version that add his back story in. golbez gets fleshed out more in that version as well.

I found the final boss fight in Duke Nukem Manhattan Project very underwhelming, just some platforming challenges and that's it, at least the ending being cool makes up for it.

The Final Mission in Army Men RTS (To take out the traitor) is a legit vertical difficulty spike in comparison with everything you do in the previous missions.

The final boss in DS1 is a cakewalk, just be good at parrying.

Most pre Kefka FF villains are pretty boring tbqh.

Lol, I guess my forgetting his name is a testament to how crappy the boss is.

I had the right game, wrong boss. I was talking about FF II SNES, with Cecil and Kain.
yeah, it's my favorite one. zemus is legit just brought up about an hour before the final dungeon. there's one, and i mean, one; spot that foreshadows his existence. you'd miss it in the snes, psx, gba, and pixel remaster version. only the 3d version highlights it in the cutscene after the scripted golbez fight in the tower of zot.
i don't blame you in the slightest for forgetting him.
