Rugal can be very, very cheap, no matter the version. Gill too is pretty nightmarish to fight with his full resurrection. Boss I-No is almost insane to fight sometimes.

Soul Calibur III's Zasalamel can be very cheap, and Cervantes in Soul Edge is infuriating sometimes. Gado in Bloody Roar 2 is also another underestimated character. Jinpachi Mishima is another person who can wipe the floor with me to the point that it can be unfair.

Geese Howard and Wolfgang Krauser also deserve a mention in the SNK hall of cheap bosses. White from Fatal Fury Dominated Mind pulls a trick almost as bad as Gill if you don't know what is coming -- after you defeat him, the guy launches one last attack that will likely kill you if you don't block or dodge when you are about to enter the winning stance.

Now, Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat? The AI does input read, so it starts reacting the moment you do the action, and it has priority over any of your actions. Kintaro is a mid-boss in MK2 , but he also deserves a mention as he can be more annoying than Shao Kahn. Besides being cheap, they cheat.

I have yet to replay KOF 94 at some point. Last time I played 95 was years ago. I only really play them from 96 onwards.
Still a better track record than me, that's for sure! I tend to play 98um and 02um every so often, but have rarely gone back to others in the series, unfortunately. I wanted to play through some of the earlier games as I was inspired by this thread to see if my opinions change at all.

I certainly agree about Kintaro - they are quite the piece of work! Exploiting the CPU has been the only real way to beat those early MK games.

Classic MK is one of those games where if you ain't cheating, you ain't winning. MK2 is legit the cheapest AI out of the classic games. Kintaro isn't as bad in Trilogy but he is HELLISH in MK2. Also gotta love Shao Kahn autocorrecting mid shoulder charge if you teleport as Human Smoke, so it looks like he's hitting you with his ass, lol.

I tend to play 98UM, 2002UM, and XI, for the most part. I do have XIV but I barely touch it. And SOMETIMES I play XIII.

KOF XIII is amazing but the bosses SUCK. Just straight up suck, lol. Nothing like TWO bosses that react to nearly everything but if you sweep them over and over they'll just accept their death.

Gill gives me trouble in 3S when not playing Urien - Aegis mirror is very strong on his wakeup resurection, so he doesn't gain much life back, and loses his meter. Priority is annoying, I'll give ya that ::eggmanlaugh
I think it helps to bait out one of his "regular" supers when you're about to kill him. Both do insane amounts of chip dmg but compared to getting TOD'd by him getting a single cr.hp after resurrection, it's way better. You can usually hit him out of Seraphic Wings because he doesn't gain i-frames until the move is about to start. So until the screen starts flashing you can get him with any j forward move.

In the console version he becomes harder to fight because his fireball becomes super cancelable for some reason. That means the strat that usually works might not if he confirms into it instead of doing it raw.

I think M.Bison is the best boss in Street Fighter series such a iconic character

Real ending, its crying material and has a trans human meaning if you are playing with the game connected online.

Its something to be experienced.

Metal Gear Solid.
If you were playing videogames in the 90s you know what I mean...

Metal_Gear_Solid_Integral.png

You can enjoy the levels design, the stealth action or even joke with the runts and their predictable patterns, but you are always going forward expecting a huge boss fight against an incredible enemy.
Any boss fight (not only the final fight) within the game has its own plot developed during the fight. That forces you to stay sharp and alert at every word he/she says and to discover the only moment while he/she will be vulnerable to your attack... Or maybe wait until the game breaks the 4th wall and lets you take some advantage of it... 😲

An old masterpiece, revolutionary at its time and my number 1 videogame for the glorious PSOne. What else could I say not mentiened before about this one?

I liked the game but at some point there were too many dialogues so that it annoyed me.

But that last boss was something despite the long monologues where I was saying "come on Snake, go kill him".

Hello again! I'm always play dark souls becuase even it was hard it had a great story and fair bosses.
I love dark souks trivia and stories.
But what's make dark souls and a lot of other games special to me is their bosses.
I always watch their move and enjoy how great they are.EXCEPT SPAMMERS BOSSES!
so instead of talk about one game or one boss let's talk about any boss from any game!
I start with one of my faverites, the slave knight geal!
slave_knight_gael_boss.webp

He is only boss I used every item I collect to defeat it first try! His moveset was very fast and he give you a small window to attack. He has 3 phase make it more and more hard! But his story and why he fight is so great!
My favourite attack from him is his crossbow which I heard inspired from guts crossbow in berserk.
He attack with his sword then jump and fire a lot of crossbows arrows.

Anyway let's talk about bosses and how ugly or beautiful they are!(UGLY=SPAMMERS!)

Gael is an Elden Ring boss on Dark Souls III. This fight is a fucking shonen episode.

I just remembered about Darkeater Midir, from the Ringed City dlc too. I never beated this boss alone, just with coop. This fella is H A R D, but a spectacle of a fight.

I can't think of specific examples right now, but well constructed bosses are an art: to make them difficult and yet learnable is not an easy task. If overexaggerate the tells they become too predictable; if you make the attack windows too small or overdo it with iframes or whatever, it becomes an unfair slog.

Not my favorite, but my most hated boss from Dark Souls 3 would be the Demon Prince.

What's more hard than a Super Boss in an already hard game? Yes, two Super Bosses at the same time. It's like fighting Ornstein and Smough, but if they were on steroids! And when one falls? You guessed it: The other turns into a Super Saiyan! Jokes aside, this fight is insanely hard, even harder for me than Midir, but an amazing battle like no other. Not even Elden Ring made me sweat that much (although I haven't played the DLC).

The demon prince was hard because it ranged anoyying attacks and start phase to without any single warning! If you use black knight weapons(I used great axe) the boss become more easy but I died 1 time becuase fall and the that fire promancy(which they steal from dark angle in ds2) is something really really hard! More problem was how aggresive he become and regaining health!
(*see name of those time wasters, ornstin and smoug*)
.....those chunky idiots!they killed 4 or 5 hourse to get killed!seriously I can beat demon prince alone but not these idiots! Smough is a bit fair and understandable but that orenstin has devil range! Half of times he kill you not the smoug! Only good part is you can poisen them but it won't work because that freaky none sence ornstin one shot spear attack!

Slave knight geal look like a beast in his first phase:
۲۰۲۵۰۵۱۱_۲۰۱۲۲۸.jpg

But he become more and more like a knight as fight goes. One of my new theory about him is this: he is the third sealer who leaves new londo. The darkmoon covenant capture him and send him to painted world as his punishment. He become a slave knight there and slay a lot of people.he search for blood of dark souls for a his lady to make a world for him. He has a powerful miracle which more than like a sorcery.

Ash Crimson (Another Design) from KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A

For me is Cyber-Lip from Cyber-Lip (1990) is a very easy boss because the attacks are predictable and like the rest of the bosses it does not withstand so many shots and you beat him and also that the protagonists carry jetpacks that make the final battle easier than it really is And that reflects the freedom of movement.

SVC Chaos would like to have a word with you...

I'd add KOF 2001 but that only applies to the boss fights, but the AI in SVC just hates you, lol.
SVC Chaos had more than a word with me, it gave me an earful and stole my lunch.

"Hey, Mega man nerd, we have Zero!!, ha ha, jokes on you!, ya nerd!!"

*gets thrashed despite playing snk fighters for years*

"Game over"

I got it again on my ps5 when it was re-released recently, it's great but very difficult as it really doesn't like the human player winning, scratch that, even trying. I played the ps2 one years ago and I could swear that really wasn't anywhere near as hard as the arcade version.

As someone who played both versions, it's kinda similar AI-wise. What makes the PS2 version worse is that they removed the slowdowns. No, not the performance slowdowns, the slowdowns for hit effects, or KOs, stuff that doesn't get in the way. It actively makes some characters harder to use.

Crysis. Loved the first half, absolutely hated the second half with the alien bullet sponges and linear bullshit. To add insult to injury my game crashed while I was halfway through the final boss so I never technically beat it. What a mixed bag of a game man.
