I feel like Keen has fallen under the radar these days which is pretty unfortunate, since I think all of the games (especially 4 and 5) are pretty solid PC platformers. At the time it was way awesome to get actual smooth scrolling instead of the clunky Jill of the Jungle or Duke Nukem, grid like feel. The music was always phenomenal and the level design was great.
I just quickly played through Keen 4 again and it really is such a solid game. These games certainly have some clunkyness to them but also one hell of a lot of charm. The pogo stick mechanic is super fun. It's amazing that there is still a super small, dedicated Keen community around making mods and such, and many of them are actually very good. Just goes to show that there's a lot to work with if you just make a solid foundation. Sure, it's never gonna be to the same levels as some of the console platformers such as Mario are, but it's a unique PC platformer that I think more people should give a shot. A few years ago I played through all 7, and the only real dud was Keen 3 due to tight deadlines, lol. Such as the one mazelike level that you literally cannot beat without cheats.
Anyway, do any of you still play these games and actually find them fun? Again, some of the mods are definitely worth checking out too.
