Zool__Majy__Charmer_Legend_-_English_Translation.jpg

This is a mix of rpg/monster catching/visual novel for the N64. Story description: As a late-‘90s release, Zool clearly draws inspiration from the Pokémon formula. You play as Leo, a 10-year-old boy living in a commune in the village of Lunour (or possibly Renoul—again, blame the Japanese language). Leo lives in a “children’s house,” which is essentially an orphanage. Roche, the wealthiest man in Lunour, is a collector of majuu (magical beasts). One day, his henchmen, Mitt and Matt, are exploring the woods in search of new beasts when they come across Leo. The boy accidentally discovers an egg and […]

Hey, has anyone else hit a glitch after getting out of the mansion. When I try to go back to the orphanage, the orphanage screen pops up, but no option to talk to anyone pops up/ story does not progress.

This happened to me and it's a shame. I'll have to start all over again. I'm very grateful this translation exists because I've been a fan of this game for well over 20 years, so I hope this hopefully will be fixed.

This didn't happen to me. The only two things I can think of that I did differently on my playthrough is that 1: I went to the storehouse first to drop off Bernie before heading into the orphanage, and 2: I didn't set my town cursor to full-range mode.

If either of those don't work, try contacting Zoinkity on YouTube, Romhack.ing, or Romhacking.net about it.

I thought I was the only one... I hope there's a solution to this issue because I was having a lot of fun before encountering it. ::injured

This game looks god awful in more ways than one. Its obvious why this ugly looking game was not ported over.
the god awful part is probaly the visual novel section because they probaly cut thing stuff was originaly meant be 64dd, with explorable world and talk to people. the other thing could get way away to get fixed was adding a run button thing could be an ok game at best.

yeah i was trying to use all emulation settings to make it look better and most of them made it worse due to everything being a 2d image most of the time.
i'm playing at 300% speed it's still quite slow too, with holding B to speed up text and rapidfiring A i was getting impatient lol.
the fighting feels like a much worse digimon world 1 (you do not direct control monsters)

The N64 had a SECOND JRPG? TF!!!?

There's also the urban legend that Yamauchi at the time called JRPG fans "weirdos" who lived in basements, but AFAIK no one's been able to find the actual quote of him saying that.

Probably because it didn't happened; Nintendo knew how important Squaresoft and Enix were to SFC in Japan. So if anything like that was ever said, it'd of been out of sheer spite.
Also dont forget also Onegai monster is another rpg game for nintendo 64 and is monster taming too.

Sony's PS1 was too good to ignore. Apart from CDs being able to hold considerably more data than a cartridge, they were also cheaper to produce.

I always wonder why they where so few RPG for the Nintendo 64, i mean it don't have any sense, the super Nintendo is probably the console with the most large catalogue of RPG games in history so why they stop coming out for Nintendo 64???

The N64 was a console that was starving for RPGs, so seeing another one pop up like this is a very pleasant surprise.

Def will try this out on my steam deck immediately.

I remember seeing this time ago, when going through the N64 library to build my offline retro archive, and being like "Ooooh, this looks so charming, too bad I can't play it, I hope one day someone translates this".
And well, my wish has been granted, ahah. Will never be grateful enough to the people with the know-how to mod/hack the games to translate them.

Hope somebody beats it and will report if it has any problems, I've heard about some of them on forums here.
