Game Description:

Zool - Majuu Tsukai Densetsu is a RPG video game published by Imagineer released on 1999 for the N64.

This is a mix of rpg/monster catching/visual novel for the N64.

Story description:

As a late-‘90s release, Zool clearly draws inspiration from the Pokémon formula. You play as Leo, a 10-year-old boy living in a commune in the village of Lunour (or possibly Renoul—again, blame the Japanese language).

Leo lives in a “children’s house,” which is essentially an orphanage. Roche, the wealthiest man in Lunour, is a collector of majuu (magical beasts). One day, his henchmen, Mitt and Matt, are exploring the woods in search of new beasts when they come across Leo.

The boy accidentally discovers an egg and encounters a rare majuu named Bernie, who quickly forms a strong bond with him. Mitt and Matt capture Bernie and bring him to Roche’s mansion, but Bernie escapes after sensing Leo’s presence.

Leo becomes what the game calls a majuu user, someone who can communicate with magical beasts through whistles and fight alongside them against beast hunters. It’s not the most original story, but it gets the job done.

Translation by Zoinkity, Whowasphone404 and Gabbu Hetchy. Released in July 11, 2026.

Translator commentary:

This translation uses semi-generic Commonwealth English, translating all dialog, menus, and on-screen text (~59000 words).

Beyond the translation there are a number of amenities and bugfixes. Among them are an increase to walking and text printing speeds, a rename house.

The save format has changed! The game now uses SRAMx3, just like "Dezaemon 3D". This provides four built-in save files.
