-Vinland Saga
-Chainsaw Man
-Dandadan
Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen all of these except monster. I just added it to my watchlist on Netflix.

Kurozaku
Psycho Pass
Code Geass
Black Lagoon
Grenadier Hohoemi no Senshi
Kiddy Grade - Kiddy Girl-And
Vandread
GunXSword
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 1st & 2nd GIG
Eureka 7
Mai HiME - Mai OTOME
Musaigen no Phantom World
Full Metal Panic
Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen code geass already but the rest are new opportunities

I was *so sure* I was gonna need to merge this with an existing thread when I saw the title, but nope, looks like this is the first! (Seems surprising, somehow.)

On topic, Apothecary Diaries is a pretty delightful show, a kind of detective series from the unconventional lens of a faux-period piece. (A sort of alt-history China with other nations and cultures peppered in.) You get courtly intrigue, romance, mystery, and a delightful protagonist who obsesses over the minute details of all manner of things, but especially poisons....which is refreshing for a detective series, since eleventh hour obscure toxin reveals have been a blight on the genre since well before Agatha Christie.

Personally, I do prefer the manga, but the show has been a hit here in my house, with gorgeous art and relaxing music. It is hard not to be the person who reveals what's coming in later chapters though...

Yu Yu Hakusho
FLCL
Berserk 97
Trigun
Outlaw Star
Perfect Blue
Your Name
Spirited Away
Full Metal Alchemist

Yeah I haven't seen anything too obscure lol but big recommendations just in case

Thanks for the recommendation. I just added it to my Watchlist on Crunchyroll

Monster... if it's the one that i remember was 2005 or so, it's basically about a doctor/medical student genius who feels disenfranchised after his 'hero' he found out just used other people's papers. So he spites him by saving someone who wasn't getting palms greased. That ends up being a serial killer/monster.

I've only seen a couple episodes so that's all i remember.

Now if it's the more recent monster (as in reincarnated as a goblin/monster) well that's more isekai.

Yeah it's on netflix it came out in 2004 it says. Once I'm finished watching Breaking Bad I'm gonna start watching it.

A general list of what I consider masterpeices (or very nearly approaching that), assuming youve seen quite a few already :)

  • Cyberpunk Edgerunners - Absolute powerhouse of an anime, took over Bebop as my all time #1
  • Serial Experiments Lain
  • Devilman Crybaby
  • Paranoia Agent
  • Ghost in the Shell - Series & Movies (I prefer the series)
  • Bebop
  • Samurai Champloo
  • Baccano
  • Steins;Gate
  • Erased
  • Link Click
  • Monster (2004) - was already recommended, its great!
  • Mars Express - French animated movie, very modern GITS vibes.

The only actual somewhat obscure rec I can give is Chio's School Road. It's actually pretty funny, one of the few anime that actually made me laugh.

The episode of Doraemon about the Lucky Gun, because it's wild to think it actually aired.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho
Slam Dunk
Haikyuu
Hunter x Hunter
Sword Art Online
Magi
Fate/stay night
The Seven Deadly Sins
Re:zero
Log Horizon
Fire Force
Escaflowne
My Hero Academia
Senran Kagura
Yuki Yuna is a hero
Code Geass
Gurren Lagann
Evangelion
Lupin the third
Kuroko no Basket (the manga is way better)
Nantsu no Taizai
Black Clover
Hajime no Hippo
Re:zero (although it's not finished)
Log Horizon
Gintama
Shaman King
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

I've seen 18 out of the 28 you recommend. I'm gonna add the ones I haven't watched to my watchlist

Bubblegum Crisis and Cyber City Oedo 808 are my current watches.

For something more recent maybe Pluto.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned frieren yet, it's probably the best anime of the last decade.

Gonna go for the 00's and older classics.
Record of lodoss war OVA (one of my personal favorites)
Tekkaman Blade
Shadow skill (movie is better but both show and movie are great)
Vampire Hunter D
Armitage III
Space Pirate Captain Harlock
Gundam X
Mobile Fighter Gundam Wing
Galaxy Express 999
Cowboy Bebop (obviously)
Robot Carnival (it's not so much a suggestion but a experience, it will show you how anime once was)
Tenchi Muyo! (was hesitant to post this, it's a good show but it's also more or less the founder of the harem genre)
The Vision of Escaflowne
Patlabor (movie, tv series, ova, patlabor is famous in japan for a reason)
Street Fighter II the animated movie
Venus Wars
3x3 Eyes
Ah! My Goddess (series, if you like romance)
I will also back up bubblegum crisis and cyber city oedo 808

For more modern anime:
Sousou no Frieren/frieren the slayer as i mentioned before.
Wotaku ni koi
Tsukimichi ~Moonlit Fantasy~
Ergo Proxy (if you like mind screw anime, this borders on 00's but putting it here as it was revolutionary at the time)
Zetsuen no Tempest (another psychological story, though not in the same way as ergo proxy)
One Punch Man (you've probably seen it)
Stein's Gate
Tensei Shitara Ken Deshta
The Unwanted, Undead Adventurer/Nozumanu Fushi no boukensha (like frieren it's hard fantasy and i love every second of it)
The Irregular at Magic High School (this one i'm kinda hesitant to suggest as while i like it, it's not for everyone, it's probably something someone who liked the more famous anime would like though).

Tomo-chan is a girl. Well written tomboy romance story with a great cast of characters.
