Nes, when it came out, although I had access to a Atari 2600, and Sega master system as well before I got the NES, with Final Fantasy.

After I was born but still barely developed, my dad had an Sega Genesis. Someone borrowed and never returned. He got a SNES after, but then traded for a N64.

So for all intents and purposes, I was born with a N64 at my disposal. To this day it's still the best console ever

I watched someone play it, I was like 4 at the time, so his brother, who was my age and I never got very far into it till later on.

It's the same for me. I say "played" but I couldn't get very far at all, as I didn't really understand the basic concepts of an RPG at the time (it was a rental and had no manual).

Blew my mind when I was a kid, still one of my favourites even if it is probably with rose tinted glasses, did you play the PS2 remake? There was a 'PSII' remake (also for PS2 :p) both expanded on the stories and feature set for the originals.

A lot of people like to hate on the remakes, but I don't. I honestly think they look beautiful, play well and should have been localized officially (not to mention PS3 and PS4 should also have gotten such remakes).

Yeah, I played a bit of them. While being technically superior to the originals, they have the sheen of a budget release. Also, some of the story changes you can do on a new game plus undermine the story as a whole.

I hated losing Nei. It hurt, it hurt real bad. It was Aerith a decade prior. Since the remakes give you a chance to undo that pain, they are important to me.

I know what you mean about the looks of it all, but I honestly like it. I think it animates well and the remixed music is nice. It does have a bit of a RPG Maker feel to it, but I think it works.

I would say the SMS power translation on the Mark III is my favorite version.

I like to think of it like appreciating Jazz, it isn't about the notes they did put in, but thinking about the notes they didn't

The SMS Power translation is definitely the way to go. There's also a separate hack that improves field sprites a lot on PS1 and I love using both in tandem.

Yes, it feels like a professional (if budget) RPG Maker release.
