Why do people still use Kega Fusion for emulating Sega Genesis games?

I just wish someone would pick up where Steve Snake left off and bring Kega Fusion up to code. It deserves to be updated! It deserves to be polished! It hasn't had an update in almost 15 years and yet people still use it!

I say breathe some new life into it!

Its closed-source. No one can update it besides Steve Snake himself.

Unless someone would resort to patching the binary, which is limited and not really worth it.

I only use it to run 32X CD games. Otherwise I have just been using Bizhawk.

Lately I been using emuhawk. IDK how good it is in comparison to other emulators but its a good all in one solution with minimal setup. If I have to spend any more of my life with emulator settings I might go even more crazy. I wish Saturn emulation was better but I know its a difficult system to emulate

While Kega Fusion supports Sega CD emulation, there are notable audio sync issues. Kega is not recommended for CD emulation.

On Windows 8.0 and later, a incompatibility issue (related to DirectDraw support in these operating systems being further deprecated) causes the emulator to drop frames or freeze entirely in the case of Windows 10 and later, when attempting to switch to full-screen mode. However, this can be easily fixed by right-clicking on Fusion.exe > Properties > Compatibility > check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.

But Kega Fusion has the most traditional UI, so I can see why people would use Kega Fusion for that.
Because PicoDrive and Genesis Plus GX are essentially RetroArch only. And Ares has a pretty bad UI IMO.
I keep hearing about compatibility problems with Kega but I had none in Windows 10.

For Sega CD you should check the Perfect Sync option to resolve the audio sync problem with Kega Fusion.

Also all who seek a modern succesor must try "jgenesis".

I don't know why is relatively unknown while is so good.

I prefer standalone emulators over Retroarch and its cores. I would use Blast 'em instead, but the interface is awful and it doesn't have varied filter options.
Also Blastem isn't fully developed, the viable ones for now are Genesis Plus GX and PicoDrive (and their ports including Bizhawk), Kega Fusion, Jgenesis, MD.emu and Ares.

I was testing some of the emulators these days, and if someone has an old or underpowered PC or simply wants an standalone with graphical interface and reliable Sega emulator for all the 2d consoles, and nearly hassle free, then Kega Fusion is the only one that fulfills all of that.

I personally started using it because I ended up giving up on RetroArch, found controller setup for my USB controllers too much of a hassle and it's so much easier to use standalone emulators instead. I do use Mednefan though for NES, SNES, PC Engine/PC Engine CD, PS1 and Saturn emulation.

Used to used Gens back in the day too.

Edit: Used to USE Gens back in the day too.

Like everyone else said already, it's reliable.

I usually emulate my Sega games on portable consoles though, but for those few times I want to use my laptop instead, Kega Fusion is there ready and waiting.

The only other PC based Sega emulator I gravitate towards is Genecyst, but that's mainly out of nostalgia for the menu.
