Why do people still use Kega Fusion for emulating Sega Genesis games?

No idea, to be honest. I believe the last update to KF was 2010.

I'll echo the people who say it's easy to use and seems to do all the stuff I need? I wasn't aware there was an issue with it.
It has some latency issues in some situations and it doesn't have good support for more esoteric games because of custom mappers and the like.

Why do people still use Kega Fusion for emulating Sega Genesis games?
There are better Sega Genesis emulators out there
In the past, i had another reason too, you can run Kega Fusion on very old systems too, and also has very little cpu usage!
Some other emulators at that time always maxed out cpu usage to 100%, which i didn't like.
But this reason probably isn't much relevant anymore. 😅

Also, even if there's issues. many people are not affected by them, or at least not for majority of their use case.
So when someone feels more comfortable with an emulator, it's okay to continue using it, at least for games that they played with it before.

Having a library of save states or cheats for a specific emulator can also be a reason to stick with it.

There's a solid reason behind this and like everyone before me commenting I can agree it just works.

Almost like WinKawaks it works and for a long time
But I do believe the difference is Kawaks is open source.

I like it because it's thew only emulator that can emulate Sega SG-1000, SC-3000, SF-7000, Master System, Game Gear, Genesis/Mega Drive, SVP, Pico, Sega/Mega CD and 32X all in one package.

NGL, I have all my games for this emulator all in one folder and if I get a newer one that doesn't emulate all of these different consoles/computers I'll have to sift through all the games and put them in different folders and that's just going to be a big pain in the ass.

While the idea of AiO emulators is great from a design standpoint, I still have subfolders with copies of Kega Fusion for each system it emulates because I'm weird LOL (I use a Company > Console > Game hierarchy).

Normally I don't really like AiO emulators because I like to feel like each emulator is it's own console. But I figured since a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive can play most of those with the right add-ons anyway I gave it a shot. Plus, at the time I started emulating it was one of the better options.

Genesis Plus GX does Sega SG-1000, Master System/Game Gear, Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega/Mega CD

Pico Drive does Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, Sega Genesis/Sega Mega Drive, Sega CD/Sega Mega CD, Sega 32X and Sega Pico

and BlastEm only does Genesis/Mega Drive and nothing else

Kega Fusion can emulate all 9 machines and the Sega Virtual Processor (SVP). Maybe if Pico Drive or Genesis Plus GX emulated all of them I'd switch over. But unless and until one of them does I'm sticking with Kega Fusion.

wuT wait I still uze GENECYSssTT guYs on mYY DOS 1200 baud game-RDY aLien 3 the GuN: the MOVIE DOS-BOX FYREFoXx

no but I like Kega Fusion cuz as said - low maintenance n reliability. Ares is a painwad in the asser when it comes to Sega CD - particularly when it comes to regional issues. I *DO* like Ares on a few things, not least of which the PC-Engine CD emulation

Why is kega fusion still popular?
Same reason nothing has unseated pcsx2 or dolphin, they just work.
There are only 2 viable alternatives.
You have ares which i agree is a great emulator, but shaders, like for rageburner, do not work for me on ares with any of the genesis cores, or it would surmount fusion.
The other is retroarch, with it's genesis plus gx and picodrive cores, which to fair does function well, it is a convoluted mess of a emulator with how it handles settings and controls on pc for me that i personally avoid it like the plague when i can for any system, not just genesis/sega cd.

At this point i usually use ares when i can for genesis gaming due to higher sega cd sound compatibility, but the shader issue in ares makes me long for the days of fusion.

Yeah... Retroarch is... a thing. It's hard to fathom but it has such good usability when used in a self contained environment like a retro portable, and at the same time and by equal measure it is a terrible mess to use on PC.

I came across this cool emulator @ https://github.com/jsgroth/jgenesis
As for other emulation there is Mesen2 or Ares.
😎

Theoretically you could run nukedMD but good luck unless you have a really powerful pc or a fpga.

n to the person who pointed out KF's issue with fullscreen or full-window - there is a specific resolution config that will allow the hit-Esc-for-fullscreen to work, but... Fusion's strength-points revolve around ease of use with no bells & whistles tinkering drama necessary n these resolution shenanigans are actually as much - if not more - a detriment to KF than Ares' epic setup saga (nah Ares ain't hard to set up but just enough to maybe kill or impede the gaming mood the user was originally operatin within in the first place n relegate it to 'next time' if one even gets around to it with the insane n sometimes intimidating variety of choice n sub-choices, etc.)

The real issue with Kega Fusion is being closed source, else support would have kept it up to date. I've no idea why Steve Snake just doesn't open the source at this point.

So I can't recall when I heard this, I believe it was a DF retro episode that did the Evercade Handheld, but he is alive as last I'm aware and actually was paid to update it for that platform... or and this is more than possible, I'm insane and its actually a different platform he was paid to use it for and I'm actually confusing Blast-Em and their developer being paid to make a lower-end version for the Evercade hardware.

Personally, I think the Blast-Em is pretty accurate but there are some nagglingly issue with the ui for it that causes it to be annoying to use at times. At least when I last tried it. Ares is something I've nerver tried.

But Fusion? That's kept as a solid and easy to use option with a understandable interface.

Though, I say this as someone who used ZSnes for too long. Mostly because I felt the interface had a really cool retro look to it. lol

ZSNES is good on my touchscreen cuz you can wipe the screen clean w/o shuttin the O/S down =D holds a lot of nostalgia for me too, I believe prior to the existence of SNES9x. I use the aforementioned Ares though now for Nintendo consoles/portables prior to Gamecube/DS

Edit: sans Game & Watch, N64DD, or Virtual Boy. other multi-emus or Retroarch shenanigans for those

Why are we now talking about zsnes?

Because ZSNES and Kega somewhat exist in a similar situation, I guess.
Nah, zsnes has legitimate functional successors that are better than it, wheras fusion's competition all have some problem that makes fusion still viable, zsnes now is not worth using unless you like the ui (which to be fair, is nice, loved the snow screen effect).

As an emulator enjoyer emulators that share a similar UI are less jarring when I stop playing one and move to another to get setup and playing. The less jarring to me it is and faster I can get it playing the easier and better. I use fusion also.
kinda like the UI similarities between Duckstation n PCSX2 (nightly)? or like Cemu n Yuzu? I'd almost say PPSSPP n Xemu but Xemu is practically barebones while PPSSPP is stacked with amazing n thoughtful customization of all kinds...
