Looks heavy, cumbersome and unwieldy to me. 😅
Nah, the proportions are pretty close to my old Tameshigiri O-Katana. I guess that's why I'm a bit biased. It *is* unwieldy for how Virgil uses it, but demon powers and all that lol.

i am Asellus today, b/c this is my battle now: *spoilers*

Nah, I wasn't gonna get into the fact that since he's using it reverse grip he doesn't know how to use a sword. :loldog

<thinks.>
that sounds like bias LOL

It's not biased, reverse grip just doesn't work.
<thinks>
why doesn't it?
nm. *i thought i've seen it in action, but guess not* /sincere :/

EDIT:
okay, i found the real answer
*now i know i have seen it in practice* /true

Reverse Grip Katana

Using a katana in a reverse grip is not common in traditional martial arts styles and is generally considered less effective than the forward grip. Reverse grip techniques are mainly seen in specific contexts, such as when wielding the katana one-handed for more control, or in scenarios where the opponent is already on the ground, allowing for powerful downward thrusts.4

In grappling situations, reverse grip can offer some advantages, such as stronger blocks and the ability to quickly reach targets behind you. However, it sacrifices reach, leverage, and speed compared to the forward grip.

There are technically forms and kata involving reverse grip, but they're incredibly niche and not super practical. It's largely something you'll only ever see in demonstrations and never in a real match. Using such a long sword, then giving up your reach to reverse grip doesn't make a lot of practical sense.

now i know more of the story. /sincere
thanks @RanmyakuIchi

*i wonder though, what a katana user would do if stuck in a grapple situation.*

Okay, so I had a Tai-Chi teacher in college who actually brought his sword in and was teaching a few of those "reverse grip" techniques for if we got jumped or mugged in the street.
he didn't expect us to be walking around with katanas, /true
but now i "reverse grip" anything i'm going to use as a weapon when i'm walking around:
car key is what i'm doing it with now. /trrue
stopped a would-be attack carrying a personal umbrella reverse grip once /true.

so i'm still not sure why it doesn't work, when it has for me . /true

It was pretty common for Samurai to be trained in Jujutsu as well, and the Tanto dagger was often carried and used in grappling. It was typical for a shorter axillary weapon to be carried for cramped encounters, such as a Tanto in wartime or a Wakizashi for peacetime dueling/self-defense.

I really like Wolnir's Holy Sword from Dark Souls 3. Perfect balance of strength and faith, the way the lord intended. And it's quick. And it has an AOE.
If we're talking Souls games, it's gotta be the humble Claymore for me. Simple, reliable, and always readily available. Beauty in simplicity.

IADK that /true

Easily one of the best games I've ever played. I've got over 800 hours in it and I think 11 or 12 playthroughs between PlayStation and PC. Such a fun single player and multiplayer experience.

I also love the Cathedral Knight Greatsword. Spent so long grinding for it on my 4th (?) playthrough in a really dangerous area, before finding a much more manageable drop point. Ahhh, Dark Souls III.

I wish I could erase my memory of the game and experience it all over again. Very envious of you (in a positive way)

View attachment 77552Just talked about swords in general- double bladed swords are so cool
They're so impractical though!
At that point, if you're gonna use a long weapon you'd be better off with a spear or staff of some type, as there's a reason people use the phrase "double-edged sword".

Eh don’t care, just think they’re cool
