It's tough, social skills are almost like a muscle that need to be used regularly, lest they atrophy. My social muscles are feeling fairly atrophied at the moment. I'm good at finding excuses to use to keep procrastinating on putting myself out there, but at some point that's all you can do. Counseling does seem like a good resource to use, having a trained outside perspective would surely be helpful.
