What's a game everyone loves but you don't like it?

I LOVE Street Fighter IV, but it was definitely an uphill battle. It took me YEARS to get decent at it.
At first I played Vanilla and Super and it just didn't feel right, most of the time it felt like controlling a sack of bricks, the game felt weirdly heavy for some reason. A few years later, I finally got my hands on Ultra and REALLY put some time into it. It's a game where you can either have a very fun match, or have your scrub of a friend wait for his Ultra meter to go up and beat you with the most random Ultra Combo ever, there's no middle ground with this game. ::lol
But even so, I began appreciating SF4 more as time went on. It certainly isn't the most balanced game out there, with characters ranging from annoying (Juri, Ken) to straight up bullshit (Elena).
It's a very execution heavy game if you're going for the 1-frame links, but I just found them to be too much work for too little reward. I have a friend who can put people through 53 hit combos with Seth but it barely does half their health and spends a ton of his resources, so what's the point? xD
I like that SF4 is a game that's easy to learn, but really hard to master. Lots of characters are viable to a point, and while I'm not a fan of the comeback mechanics of this game (and it did kinda ruin the experience early on but that's mostly due to the people I was playing against), I hold this game in high regard. Just like SF2, they didn't land a home run on the first hit, but it got a lot better as time went on.

As for SFV... hoo boy. My friend and I used to refer to it as "the dark ages". ::lol
Characters being a menace and staying a menace (Karin, Luke and Cammy), one super per character (at least 4 had a super AND an Ultra), bad characters either getting worse or getting better way too late in the game's life (Nash), some characters just getting some not really interesting revamps (Cody, Poison, that Mufasa lookin' ass Akuma) and some really bad newcomers too (Kolin, Menat).
The basics are here, but everything feels so monotone in SFV, if you see one pro player using a character, you've seen them all. It's such a one-note game at times, and the changes along the way sadly didn't do much to help it. There's no room for creativity in SFV, it feels.
There are things I like about SFV, Nash (ESPECIALLY Nash), Necalli, Urien being back, G, Balrog, Zeku, but for every step forward there's definitely a step back.
And oh yeah, THROW LOOPS. 🙃 Looks like Capcom didn't learn from their mistakes and they found a way to return in SF6. Oh dear.
Then it begs the question, what about 6? LOL.

View attachment 49676This game is the definition of soulless, everything that made the Guilty Gear series great is basically non-existent in Strive, and the community has gone to shit thanks to this game, Daisuke is a hack.
Went for the mainstream audience and apparently -business wise- it worked.

Too soon to call, lol. I only played a bit of 6 on a demo years ago. I enjoyed it at the time, but I heard people's problems with it. Also I hear the SFV throw loops are back, that's not good. xD

Back to the topic.

I just couldn't get into MK Shaolin Monks.
I don't think it's bad or anything, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.
It's the best spin-off game by a landslide, but that's a real low bar when the competition is Mythologies (a game with good intentions but bad execution) and Special Forces (I heard interesting things about how the game was GOING to be, but even so, the way it turned out was objectively bad).

I might get a lot of hate, but, Kingdom Hearts. I have played it on my PS2, but I just can't get into the combat system and complex story. And Disney with Final Fantasy characters just feels odd to me. When I think of Disney games, I think of the ones Capcom and Sega made which have better gameplay.

It's not a hot take there are a lot of people on the internet who hate the Kingdom Hearts series and make memes making fun of it. I honestly only like the games up to 358/2 Days, after that the series became a real clusterfuck especially in terms of narrative.

Its Cyberpunk 2077 .

That game is the most dissapointing product that i ever witnessed besides Shadowrun for the XB360 .

They could have made the Videogame version of the TTRPG as they promised in 2013 but a shallow GTA mixed with Borderlands and Cyborgs and almost no RPG in it except some different endings , arent on my Bingo-card for this game . And even with all the updates and patches its still not what this game could have been way much better .

The overarching story with Keanu Reeves playing as Ted Tonka-toy Hand was really generic and even unnecessary when they could just have alot of quests , factions and other means for endings that you could archive by just simply exploring and looking for lore to make your own goals and alot of choices that actually impact the world much more .

I would rather have Keanu Reeves as Johnny mnemonic made into a cameo or own interpretation into the form of quests instead of " the ghost of a dead rockstar spooks in my head " as the mainquest the whole mainpart of the game .

I cant understand how still people can like this game.

I honestly think all of Larian's games suffer from cringe, insufferable narration and characters. I'm surprised they don't get called out more on this. I do enjoy the gameplay and freedom of Larian games but the storytelling is very hit or miss. Somehow they've been able to gaslight the community into thinking they have good stories and characters.
Absolutly true . BG3 wasnt overall great . And i agree . The story was very hard to enjoy while the characters are extremly cringe at best (with maybe some slight exceptions) .

Most Mario games except Sunshine.

Hey man, did you play the first three Paper Mario games? I just want to know::apollo
Even if they did, I totally get not enjoying them.

Shock and awe: some people don’t like to play Mario RPG’s for a variety of reasons, most relating to their battle mechanics, but also relating to their world design and map travel.

Took me a LONG TIME to appreciate Paper Mario. I’m happy I got there, but it took nearly a decade.

Have you played TTYD and SPM?

Yes.

It’s actually those games IN PARTICULAR I’m referring to.

I’m a weirdo who prefers 64 over all others. Second fav is Super.

Feel free to attack me :3
I Love TTYD and SPM a lot, especially the stories and characters, Can you explain why you prefer 64 over the rest? I know you're going to say that TTYD backtracking is boring or whatever.

Actually not the case! I just… don’t vibe with the world of TTYD. Characters yes! And plot points yes. But… I didn’t care for Rogue Port as a location and first impressions are everything to me.

When I played Super, I had somebody helping push me through to the fun stuff. Experience is everything. It’s the reason why people love the games they do. Some games just speak to you, y’know?

For 64, I love it’s brighter world and I think it fits the Paper Mario I have in my head. When I think of the grander Mario RPG’s, I think of Mario and Luigi due to their similarity in aesthetic to the normal Mario world. For the Paper series, I like it to be goofy and fun! More storybook like! Super isn’t that way, but it still works because it has this “corrupted computer program” vibe that I really like.

That said, TTYD has WAY BETTER PARTNERS.

I kinda wish these two games could merge in some way. All the improvements of the sequel, but the tone and vibes of the original.

That’s why my favorite Paper Mario game is Bug Fables :3

No but I plan to. They seem fun. I’ll pick up a Thousand Year door when I find it.
Do so! I plan to play TTYD again someday using my modded Wii and playing it with my boyfriend! He helped me through Super, so I know he can make me appreciate TTYD as well!

I've always been much more of a fan of the edgy and subversive writing style of TTYD and SPM over 64, I Love how these two games weren't afraid of breaking the Mario mold and be more weirder and darker than your average Mario game, I love Rogueport as a setting and I really relate to it because I am a middle-class Brazilian who lives in a country where poverty and misery are gigantic. And Rogueport reminds me of favelas where violence and poverty are the norm. I also identify with Vivian's story of her being a victim of abuse and her being a trans woman who was constantly marginalized by her abusive family. And she deciding to leave her abusive family to be with the man she loves.

I very much want to have the same or similar connection to this game as you do! That goes for all the games I’ve mentioned so far in this thread: I’m sad I don’t love these games like other people, and I’d like to have that adoration. It’s more fun to be happy, usually!

I also love the whimsical and cozy tone of the first Paper Mario game, and I also love the Mario & Luigi Games and Super Mario RPG, but TTYD and SPM are very important games to me and they are games that mean a lot to me, I really love the messages and themes that these two games have, especially the messages about love and the importance of having relationships and friendships with other people. the importance of loving the world even though it's not perfect and in general loving who you are.

Any Baseball and Football (Not soccer) game, i find them too convulted and Baseball for me is the cure for Insomnia IRL, now imagine playing it in a game

Baldur's Gate 3 (Gets into a bunker) I tried to have some fun with its demo, but the excess of mechanics overwheld me, i know it was dumb to expect a Dragon Quest style RPG from a adaptation of the most tactical Tabletop game, but considering i kinda liked 2 on Gamecube, i come with high expectation... trampled by being a ocean and beign given a single oar and a log boat

Final Fantasy series, can't connect with any of the ones I played(I to XII), I always end up leaving them unfinished and with a bad taste of excessive grinding, an almost irrational aversion, with the more "realistic" art style and more simple i End up more bored than when I started to play them.
