Honestly, I hate trends. Nothing good ever comes of it and we, the players, always have to suffer because of it.

Trends don't inherently equal bad things. So long as the thing in question is good and made for fun. The game is at 30 dollars and is an affordable price, and unique looking game. This is what people wanted, so they really have no right to complain. That "cheap(er) game with worse looking graphics" meme that was talked about not too long ago. From what I've heard, most people and fans are enjoying this new entry fine.

He sounds a bit hard on the game itself as it looks well animated, but he's got a rock solid point on the IP itself being used and abused. Much like with Tomb Raider at what point does this not in anyway reflect what the character and world are, and simply become name association and exploitation of an existing fan base?

Well, one thing is for sure. The game is already on everyone's lips and that's what makes it successful.

Success in what way? Making a good game? Selling a bunch of copies? I mentioned in another thread, but actual sales figures without accompanying budget in marketing and production means nothing. A game can sell well conceivably and still be under water or sell very little and do tremendously depending on circumstance. The game should sell well based on nothing but its art direction alone, however. Well animated sprite based games/pixel/animation are extremely popular right now. Even mid titles can sell pretty well.

And he had to go out and do things as a young Spartan, especially in this fantasy version of Sparta, if he wanted to be the youngest captain ever.

This is modern day idolatry and worship of these games and brand names too the point people take personal insult over it and actually attack you, personally, over nothing. I mean shit, I love DMC 5, but I wouldn't take insult if somebody uploaded a five hour video shitting on every single aspect of it. Because Kratos is a full grown angry man that murdered his own family and a demi god, not a kid. That screws hot women and performs incredible acts of violence and gore. I can understand why the original creative director is less than impressed by him being a child going on Disney Hercules adventures.
