What Nintendo series desperately needs a fresh release?

It’s been a lifetime since I played them, but I liked both startropics games, I have a vague memory that Zoda’s Revenge: Startropics 2 was the first game I ever owned myself.

Aight, no one else has said it

I would do ANYTHING for a new Custom Robo. Armored Core is a huge hit too, so it's perfect timing.

yes, the classic double edged sword. he helped out with metroid prime with his cryptic words: "what if samus saw things like a bug?" which led to her visor having multiple modes for exploring and analyzing the environment; leading to interesting worlds, animals, plants and immersive storytelling.
then there was f-zero, which was shelved for over 20 years, and came back with a remake of the first game, but 99 players.
online, with nintendo's internet servers.
because that was the only way to innovate a racing game, whose last entry was in 2004 with a gba game.
it seems like with every one game he helps with, another one has to suffer. sometimes a game series needs a couple of instalments before it has to shake things up.
game & wario also felt like a tech demo too. fortunately, wario has gotten a few more games since then.
I didn't know about Prime since I assumed that because it was a different director Miyamoto had nothing to say (unless you meant Nintendo in general).

Online multiplayer could've always been a thing for a potential remaster (like GX) but we don't really need gimmicks, Mario Kart is already perfect for experimenting (especially since Double Dash and the character swapping mechanic or Wii with the bikes).

F-zero GX was merely an improvement on X' formula and it was still great. The only additions would be more solo content and that's it.

I wish they could let more freedom when a third party handles a sequel as well.

G&W was basically Wario Ware Wii U without the name and I think WW games are all tech demos if you think about it (between Twisted with the gyro controls, Touched with the stylus, Smooth Moves with the wiimote motion controls, Snapped with the DSi camera and so on).

Punch-Out (ARMS DOESN'T COUNT) and a new classic 3D Zelda. I like TOTK, but they were REALLY stretching it with a sequel. I have a feeling they're done with the BOTW formula, though.

Best hope you have is a fan-made remake that'll immediately get the anal circumference check by Nintendo.
Arms could've gotten more DLC or even a sequel that would fix the issues in the late life of the console... I hope this isn't a game forever shelvved.

As for Zelda I could see them making something in-between. The OoT formula already has shown its limits with Skyward Sword and honestly I don't really think that a "Twilight Princess 2/Ocarina of Time 3" would be the best since Zelda has always been more or less about having a novelty per entry (even with the smaller handheld ones).

Maybe keeping the non-linear progression with Sanctuaries while having more main dungeons would be a good start. Even 6 original ones would be a good number as long as they're scattered in a good way. We don't need a bigger map, just with the most details possible to make each regions unique.

yeah, they did state that they were done with the wilds era. we will most likely get another zelda minecraft or whatever echoes of wisdom is supposed to be.
Since Zelda as a franchise has always been about freedom and exploration it would be nice if they could expand Echoes with the next top down Zelda game if Link is going back as the playable protagonist.

miyamoto more or less did the meme:
>enters room
>says something cryptic and vague
>refuses to elaborate
>leaves
to be more serious, he was just visiting and seeing how things were going. that was his only contribution to the game, otherwise, they were free to develop metroid prime as they saw fit.

online and local multiplayer is always perfect for a racing game, but nearly a quarter of a century goes by without anything being said or mentioning the series, and then that's all that they can come up with. every mario kart since 64 have been experimental

f-zero gx was a gamecube game, and was second to last. i played a bit of it. seemed very hard, but it would probably be fun to play once you get used to it. everyone probably remembers it more than the gba installment that came out just a little while later.

it seems to be dependent on what series is being handled by a third party that determines if they can get full reign or not on what they can do. hyrule warriors is a good example, specifically with cia, a very well liked character. you would never see a character like that in a mario game.

there's nothing wrong with showing off some new tech, even to the point of letting the public try it out, but the end goal should be to get feedback and make improvements for a much larger project. totk also feels like a tech demo, but more pointless since they have no plans to ever return to the wilds era. at least with wario, they made it an in universe thing that he's making some games for a quick buck.

if they do continue the echoes story and setting, i hope that link and zelda travel together. it'd be interesting to see them battling the forces of evil together.

I think a new Kid Icarus in the style of Uprising could sell really well. Maybe Custom Robo, but I doubt it.

Possibly StarTropics? It’ll never happen, but Nintendo seems to reach into their back catalogue once per generation and pull something big out of nowhere, so the chances are never zero.

Plus, they love re-releasing NES games, so that could easily be a tie in with a new release.

When Kid Icarus comes back, not IF, it will be huge. People will be all over that.

And people will also be very upset that this didn’t happen sooner, because folks have been waiting the entire Switch generation for Kid Icarus Uprising to get a remake or a sequel on a console that won’t break your hands when you play it.

I will probably always be itching for a new Star Fox game that isnt just the Lylat Wars again. There's so much they could do with that world and those characters that they just never seem to want to touch in lieu of just doing the same shit again with some gimmick attached. Resigned myself to Star Fox Assault being the platonic ideal of the franchise for me, which honestly is pretty fantastic so I guess I'm alright with that. One of those franchises that I honestly wish was in the hands of anybody else, and whenever someone else gets their hands on it they end up making a great game anyways!!

I'm absolutely agreeing on that.

A new antagonist with new and returning planets would be good.

Maybe with 0 gimmicks and no on-foot levels.

In fact they could even not include Free Range mode back I'd be fine with.

Even if it's not the Uprising style I'd be fine if it's refined.

probably unpopular opinion but i loved the on-foot levels they introduced in that middle period. I thought that was the perfect and obvious evolution for keeping the gameplay varied and I'd actually love to see more iteration upon those ideas. They opened up the world so much!

Actually I didn't mind them but in the same time when I pick a Starfox game I expect it to be a rail shooter. Sure, Kid Icarus Uprising worked with both but it was because Sakurai worked on it.

I think the issue is when the Arwing sections are getting overshadowed by others... Starfox Adventure would've been more interesting if it was closer to Jet Force Gemini than Zelda OoT.

Come to think of it, I'm surprised that there was not a Starfox game by the Splatoon team considering how good they handled TPS gameplay.

I would like for Golden Sun to get some love, but that is never happening, at least Nintendo remembers Isaac enough for an assist trophy...

The story was finished in the last DS game, right? Isn't there pretty much nowhere else left to go?

I mean, Dark Dawn is 30 years later with the kids of the previous gang, is not like they can't do that and change the world again.

nope. it literally ends with a brand new world ending threat showing up. if i recall correctly.

i found this on wikipedia: [a brief summary of the ending part of the story]
While sailing the oceans of Weyard, Matthew's party learns that the only way to stop the Grave Eclipse is by using the Apollo Lens, an alchemy machine powered by the Alchemy Forge and the Alchemy Well. To reach the Apollo Lens, they must find the legendary Umbra Gear. With help from priestess named Himi, they are able to find the Umbra Gear and reach the Lens. The group confronts and slays Blados, Chalis, and their beast companion, the Chaos Hound. Matthew and Sveta both attempt to activate the Apollo Lens, but fail. The Chaos Hound, which is revealed to be a brainwashed and mutated Volechek, sacrifices himself to activate the Apollo Lens, and the Grave Eclipse ends, while Arcanus, who is revealed to be Isaac's old enemy Alex, escapes. At the end of the game, Matthew, Karis, and Tyrell part ways with their friends and return home to find Isaac and Garet missing and an unusually large Psynergy Vortex greeting them.

Yes but no.

I'm sorry but while I would love to see an expanded lore and universe about Cornerian's lifestyle I'd rather have my Starfox playing like Starfox.

Spin-offs are fine when a franchise has many games like Pokémon and Detective Pikachu.

On the other hand if Starfox had a new on-foot game (or having on foot sections) I'd rather see Jet Force Gemini style of TPS than a Zelda clone.

Or just making it like Kid Icarus Uprising which had Rail Shooting and on-foot Third Person Shooting

My wishlist for it would be:
  1. Making Fox McCloud older/more mature.
  2. More lore bits about James.
  3. A more serious threat than recycling Andross
  4. Branching paths (not necessarily as many as 64 but more than SNES, Assault having one path is too limiting despite how hard the Gold Medal mode was)
  5. Being able to play as more than Fox (in post game or bonus modes)
  6. No too many on-foot sections, two-three at best.
  7. Making Full Range easier than having it as clunky as 64.
  8. Not too many cheesy dialogues.
  9. More than one laser type to vary gameplay styles.
  10. An energetic soundtrack that isn't orchestra (sorry but the SNES ost is my favourite).
  11. Star Wolf being more important to the plot (perhaps a "hard mode" where you play as Wolf either as a prequel or a post-game).
  12. A boss rush mode as well as other bonus modes outside of the main story.
  13. Not making the graphics photorealistic for the sake of it (I like an unique art style).
  14. NO GIMMICK
That's a really good point and idea. I guess to each their own. However, remember when Nintendo started changing hoe zelda games plays from their linear setup (BOTW) including pokemon with their legends series. That's what I'm thinking, that kind of change. star fox fans would of course prefer the old gameplay but if the changes would make star fox mainstream or brought in a lot of audience then why not try right? That's just for me though

Yes and no.

Zelda is a much more big franchise compared to what Starfox could be.

It should be more like Metroid, Dread doesn't try too much.

Pokémon has many more issues.

If anything, Nintendo considering Metroid not as big as the other franchises, is a plus.
