What Nintendo series desperately needs a fresh release?

Wow, they never made a sequel to this!? I've been thinking it was a major Switch franchise this whole time, but I guess... yeah, it really was just a single launch title! Did they ever do anything with those characters after the game came out? It seems like they were pushing the game a lot at the time...
They supported it for about a year and some change with free updates and then put Min Min in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but aside from that the series has mostly been left to the side. That's fine of course as I'm always a fan of sequels being infrequent or games being one-off titles rather than /everything/ having to become a franchise people routinely demand more from, but ARMS has that level of uniqueness and polish that really makes me wanna see what the devs would do with another go at it.

I've long hoped that the sequel would be on the Switch 2, so hopefully we see it soon!

Fingers crossed, I was hoping it would be the next Punch-Out.

Lufia was a great rpg
I wonder who even owns the Lufia IP at this point considering almost every game in the franchise had a different publisher with some games having multiple publishers for different regions. I think Square Enix owns it now? Maybe Taito still does...

In any case I appreciate this comment cause it reminds me that I've had the Gameboy Color Lufia game for ages and haven't tried it out yet. Def gonna hop on that soon!

I'd say Star Fox, but I'm sure if Nintendo ever released a new title, they'd try to shove in some kind of "experimental" crap.

Yes, I think Star Fox 64 is the best game in the series, how could you tell?

I wouldn't mind a new Cubivore game, either – that was a fun little idea. I kinda like Nintendo's "God" or "Environment" games... they should do a rerelease of both Doshin the Giant games, too. All of those games have kind of a Pikmin vibe that's very atmospheric.

Assault was good as a sequel without getting too experimental.

But I'd argue that if the next game is too much like SF64 then why bother? The original SNES game was itself experimental with 3D on the SuperFX.

Starfox 2 was a good strategic semi-sequel as well.

How so? I don't think it was bad even if it was more linear. You're allowed to prefer Lylat Wars but Namco did a good job at a rail shooter.

We finally got an antagonist that isn't Andross (yet again) that was still a big threat to the Corneria system and I also think the flight controls were much better as well than SNES and 64.

I can understand that there were a lot of on on-foot levels but it was still a shooter with big levels and you can still get vehicles.

I wouldn't have minded a Starfox game like Kid Icarus Uprising with both flight and on-foot levels as long as it's an arcade style shooter.

I don't care it wasn't like Star Fox 64, I just think it was a poorly-designed game.

How so? The on foot combats? Or the linearity?

I think it was still an interesting take on Fox and his team compared to the other games.

Well, I played the game a long time ago, so my memories are fuzzy, but...

I remember level design for the on-foot segments being slapdash, confusing and designed more for multiplayer than anything. Being forced to switch between being on foot and being in Arwing in some levels was annoying. The rail shooter levels were so boring I don't ever remember them.

Characters' new designs were generic and bad.

The story was dumb and trying way too hard to be dramatic while also not letting things have permanent consequences (e.g., Peppy sacrificing himself at the end, only to turn up completely fine later on). Aparoids were boring antagonists with none of the charm and entertainment value of Andross and his army.

I disagree on that point because Andross has always been a cartoony "I will conquer the world" kind of villain.

Yes, and he's way more memorable and entertaining than Aparoids could ever hope to be.

He's memorable because Starfox 64 is memorable.

The Aparoids are still a bigger threat to the universe and them being cold and calculating is part of what they are. They're not supposed o be "entertaining" but rather frightening to witness. Think of them as the Aurum vs Hades in Kid Icarus, one makes funny quips while the other is mechanical.

Exactly! Something new and fresh would be amazing!
I don't know how was the Anglar Emperor from Command but honestly they looked too similar to Andross.

Honestly this is the same reason why I've gotten bored of Ganon in Zelda.

Well does not Links Awaking remake on Switch count ?
The Link's Awakening remake is still a remake of a pre-existing game and is already over 5 years old.

Echoes of Wisdom was nice but another more classic that is both original and doesn't reuses the same Hyrule map from a previous entry would be great imo.

I would say a new wave race, Maybe new advance wars or new good Kid icarus or new 2D metriod game that´s not ass.
Metroid game that's not ass? You're not speaking about Dread are you?

Actually, I'd prefer Nintendo recycling because all their attempts at "new and fresh" were awful.
This is the mindset that made people find that Nintendo got too lazy for recycling their older stuff.

Can we stop with nostalgia fanboying? A franchise cannot evolve if they do the same thing.

We need changes not buying what's basically the same thing ad vitam æternam.

Breath of the Wild changed Zelda for the best after and ageing system that was clearly asking to be changed and revolutionised the Open World landscape as a whole.

Different =/= bad.

PS: Starfox Zero was the prime example that redoing yet another SNES Starfox/Lylat Wars was too redundant and putting Andross again is just milking that villain so much he has lost his aura.

Andross should've been dead for good in Lylat Wars.

If Aparoids were supposed to be frightening, then the game failed miserably since I couldn't take them (or anything in the game, for that matter) seriously. They're like an edgy 15-year-old's idea of "scary."

Bruh, I have more nostalgia for crappy bootleg games than I do for Star Fox 64.

I believe in "if it's not broken, don't fix it."

Sorry but why would you buy another Starfox game that is basically yet another Lylat Wars instead of Lylat Wars iself?

When Bethesda does the same thing people are complaining (rightfully so) because they basically had the same engine used since Morrowind.

New Super Mario Bros U was also criticised for not taking risks either and thank god Wonders was there to make an actually original 2D Mario game.

Same thing with people asking for Galaxy 3, I'd rather see something novel like Odyssey.

The AAA gaming landscape is sick of having the same sequels and people are also bored of Nintendo doing the same thing for 35+ years.

I'm a Mega Man fan. If you know anything about the series, you'll realize what is my answer to your question.

Also, that's, like, your opinion, man. Some of us don't care about originality.

Megaman is a platformer, you can excuse recycling more than most other genres (with RPGs maybe?).

On the other hand I'd also argue that Capcom were the king of recycling (for the best and the worst) which is also their modus operandi in gaming.

Also Megaman still did original concepts and sub genres like metroidvanias because a franchise cannot live with only platformers. Even the franchise itself evolved with time (like with X). I just wish Sigma and Willy weren't milked to death as well.

Mario is a prime example of how beneficial it was to tackle other genres (which made him the king of mascots in a way).

Also as a consumer aren't you tired to spend money for the same thing? Humans aren't made to eat the same food all the time so I'm always for spicing things up and making sequels that are more than just a number. Football games are also heavily criticised for that.

Anyway back to Nintendo, the N64 era was also a great change and Zelda Ocarina of Time changed how games were made. Skyward Sword has proven that the formula had its limits and that in the 2010's we couldn't have what's basically 90's game design in Zelda.

Mainstream media have become samey because of people not wanting to go out of their comfort zone.

Nintendo are able to make new things but they want more sales so they stay sadly in their lane.
