What Nintendo series desperately needs a fresh release?

Personally, I really want a new Joy Mech Fight game. It was a really, REALLY solid fighting game for the Famicom that has so much more potential for a sequel. It'll probably never happen because Smash fills Nintendo's fighting game niche, but if Kid Icarus and Famicom Detective Club can be revived, then it's surely not impossible.

A reboot of The Mysterious Murasame Castle in the style of the remake of link's awakening/Echoes of Wisdom or basically with the gameplay of "old zelda games"
I heard it was basically a sister series to Zelda in many ways.

I'd say kid icarus could be done well in a action rpg format, and could use a good reboot, the ds game tried to meld genre's which imo hurt it.

While I do agree that Sakurai didn't mind which franchise to take for his rail shooter (Starfox was a potential IP to revive) I think it was still good to modernise it beyond a simple action platformer (because unless you're Mario it wouldn't sell the best).

If the sequel to Uprising made more than being a rail shooter/run 'n gun/3D twin stick shooter it could be good but I don't really want it to be a Metroidvania nor a Zelda-like because it would be redundant.

Maybe keeping some of the shooting elements but making level bigger (not open world, just wider areas) could work with dungeon aspects for some levels (without being entirely like Zelda).

Kid Icarus NES/GB was in that sweet spot between Mario, Zelda and Metroid but all 3 IPs already evolved beyond 2D so I don't expect any regression for KI.

Well like i said a action rpg formula in the style of the on foot sections could work, zelda is NOT a action rpg unlike what some people think, zelda is in a genre between action rpg and action adventure, when i say action rpg i mean full on action rpg, not elements of it.

Metroidvania wise i think it could succeed, but i didn't mean that either, i meant something more similar to say, zelda 2 the adventure of link (the only game in the series that actually fits the term action rpg), but done right and in 3d, since zelda will never do that formula again.

For even older stuff though hmm. this might sound comedic but a actual duck hunt sequel might be fun, especially since we don't get good light gun games anymore.

I also wouldn't mind a actual super mario rpg sequel and not the paper mario games but that will never happen, think square-enix owns the rights to the gameplay design.

The "Famicom Detective Club" series needs a couple more games besides the remakes we saw on Nintendo Switch.
I'm just waking up so I can't think of anything else...

Another wild take on Kid Icarus would be pretty rad!
Kid Icarus on 3ds is one of the jewels that I love with all my being...😭💕

None of 'em! Make a new thing.

If it has to use existing characters like Smash, put 'em in a different context.

Murder Mystery Mansion, someone killed Game and Watch, we think, he hasn't moved in awhile.

Or a Smash Bros Mario RPG, with a suikoden style Peach's castle, every new addition adding a new wing reflecting their respective settings.

Elite Beat Agents!
Oh my god, how can we live in a world where they only ever did one of these!? I remember it being really popular at the time, but no one has mentioned it in like 15 years. I have a secret theory that the fan-made PC adaptation, osu!, was so good that it put the developers completely to shame. But c'mon... it's been ages! This game would work perfectly on Switch (or Switch 2)!

Maybe the time has passed, but I'd at least appreciate a translation of the two JP-exclusive games. I can't believe no one's ever done that... I also always wished that the guy who did the art for this game worked on a manga or anime or something. I love the character designs.

ALSO:
Rusty's Real Deal Baseball came out over a decade ago and I'd love to see them return to it in this new era of F2P/Battle Pass monetization.
The 3DS eShop had a ton of weird little experiments that went nowhere, but were all really interesting. There's this effing brilliant Streetpass game called Monster Manor where you build out a haunted house with pieces you get from meeting people IRL, then have your Miis go through it in the style of a dungeon-crawling RPG. We'll never get another game like that again.

Kid Icarus, Wario Land, and Tomodachi Life. those games are quite unique and I think could still be popular if they figured out how to freshen up the gameplay loops. not so much Tomodachi Life in that aspect though, that game is just goofy fun.

Kid Icarus would work so well as a Metroidvania type game. Keep it as a sidescrolling platformer, but add more depth and exploration to the levels, while keeping the spirit of the original game. The maze levels at the end of each area were challenging and so rewarding when you finally got to the boss.

Yeah I'd probably also say Elite Beat Agents. Phenomenal game, all the Ouendan games are all-timers. I've been doing a replay on my iPad recently and it's a perfect EBA machine. It's a shame nobody's hired the director to make another game like it or Gitaroo Man, and an even bigger shame that the project he's currently attached to is some NFT blockchain crap. I wonder what happened.

And the upgrades could make sense as well.

I kinda want a new Wario Land game. Wasn't a huge fan of Shake It (still like the game. 2, 3, and 4 are just better imo), and some indies have come out to fill this void, but it would be nice to see Wario back in action instead of fucking about with WarioWare. The dream would be to just make Wario Land 4 but more. Maybe 1 new move but his live set in 4 is already great.

I loved the first Warioware and each subsequent incarnations were good low budget games using the console's main gimmick but I gotta agree, at least they coexisted on the GBA, GC and Wii but since the DS (if Master of Disguise counts as a Land) and forward they stopped.

2D Platformers went out of touch in the mid-00's when the DS had touch controls and/or 3D games (unless you were Mario) until the indie boom (but then again companies weren't that interested in making brand new, high budget side scrollers, even Megaman 9 and 10 were 8-bits pixel art and Castlevania Adventure Rebirth was a semi-remake of a handheld game).

I do agree that Shake it/The Shake Dimension was, despite the high quality animations, very gimmicky with the shaking...

I've yet to do Virtual Boy Wario Land, World and Shake It.

Game & Watch Gallery. Not "collection", not some new shells, Game & Watch Gallery. How fun was that?!
I'm still genuinely surprised Nintendo didn't make a Game & Watch on the Nintendo Switch Online.

G&W Gallery were nice not only because they recreated the original G&W but with "arrange modes" with Nintendo Characters.

I think there was a DS Game & Watch but it was just a generic collection.

I wouldn't mind a new Star Fox game that isn't another remake again. I love the experimental stuff they tried

Obvious answers everyone asks for out of the way first:
F-Zero
Punch-Out!!
Wario Land
Mother/Earthbound
Kid Icarus

That said...
StarFox ...that isn't a remake/retelling of the first game.
Donkey Kong Country - a NEW game
"Advance" Wars - a NEW game
Eternal Darkness ...uhh...who owns the rights to this anyway?
A.S.H. - yes, it was made by Mistwalker but published by Nintendo, so I'll allow it.
Fatal Frame VI ...does Nintendo even still own the rights to the series?
1080°
Cruis'n
Stunt Race FX
Excitebike
Wave Race
Custom Robo
Rhythm Heaven

In terms of modern Nintendo, I'd elect ARMS as a game that deserves another go. Yea it is only 8ish years old, but it was an inventive game with tons of wonderful ideas and some absolutely brilliant networking solutions for both lobbies and general netcode. A sequel that fleshes out the mechanics and adds to the bonus modes for party play would be so cool!

For older school stuff I'd go Kid Icarus. I don't even need a new one, just do the thing everyone has been begging for and make Uprising HD dangit! I still play that game on my 3DS but I'd love to re-experience that multiplayer and introduce a whole new crowd to that masterpiece with controls that are more tolerable to average sensibilities.

Custom Robo also gets an honorable mention. Only two of the games were ever released in America and if with gunpla and mecha in general reaching new heights of popularity (especially in the west) it feels like such a great time to bring back this stellar series. At the very least I'd like a collection of the games with official translations for the N64 and GBA entries alongside the Gamecube and DS releases. I'll even settle for just V2 from the N64 alongside the Gamecube and DS ones.

Wow, they never made a sequel to this!? I've been thinking it was a major Switch franchise this whole time, but I guess... yeah, it really was just a single launch title! Did they ever do anything with those characters after the game came out? It seems like they were pushing the game a lot at the time...

Hoo yeah, excellent game, but the controls truly did suck beyond all comprehension. I'd also like more online multiplayer content, too – I really liked that game's multiplayer mode. And they can re-release the AR cards, too! 😉
