What did you learn today? ?

Chess is pretty fun.

I learned that, if this last set of documents processes, I might be done with all of the paperwork associated with handling my dad's affairs. If it doesn't, I have to fill out one more set and then they process that. So close. It'll be nice to only have to look for bills instead of weird "did this guy die" kind of forms.

Best of luck then. Sorry it’s been taking this long. Hopefully it’ll be done for good this time, and my condolences once again.

Thanks, it's mainly been a matter of waiting on things to show up in the mail, then making the appointment to have stuff notarized and whatnot. But so far, knock on wood, everything has been fairly smooth. So even if he didn't do a ton of preparations for this, it isn't as bad as it could have been. :)

BLACK AND WHITE ALWAYS GRAY
This thread popping up always reminds me of this song:

I learned that even if you get up early and get to the grocery store right when they open so you can be as unbothered by other customers as possible, someone will still manage to stand in front of the ground meat like they're watching the paint peel or something.

Spicy food can make me shed tears, apparently.

I don't mind that but there are like 20 aisles in the store. What are the odds that me and the ONE other customer, who didn't head in the same direction, ended up in front of the same 3-foot section at the same time? I wish I'd been about 30 seconds earlier, I would've been done and they could stand there for the rest of the day for all I care, heh.

Today I learned what a matrix is and how they are used in programming. I was also able to create a program that, when you enter a number n, shows you the multiplication table for that number n (from 1 to 10).

I learned that death is coming, and this for the last. Not because they were good, but because the were lucky. I learned that if we die, together or apart not to worry, because we're gonna see each other again.

One thing I learned working in retail is the vast majority of consumers lack the ability to look up, and instead of doing that and reading the signs that clearly mark which aisle contains what they will find the nearest employee- preferably the one in the middle of transferring glass pickle jars to a shelf- and ask them were they can find the pectin.

This is why I like working overnight. One of the places I worked at up in Seattle closed at 11 and opened at 7, it was magical

The worst thing is when at the deli counter you are in a hurry and there is an elderly customer who won't stop taking one thing after another, and at the same time discusses his bullshit with the poor clerk.

While continuing to go through all of my parents' stuff in this house, I found a pad from the high school they went to. My dad would always tell stories about how she was an office TA and would give him a pass to get out of class, and they'd leave campus and go to the lake. In my brain, I was envisioning like a big piece of wood that had HALL PASS carved into it or something. But apparently not, as I found a pad of hall passes with that school's name and logo emblazoned across it, so not only did she give him paper passes, she just stole the entire pad. So today I didn't learn that they were ditchers because I already knew that. I learned that she was willing to steal in order to go fucking off at the lake instead of getting an education, and you know? This explains why they let me slide so hard when I ditched so much in my high school days. Good on ya, mom. ::thumbsupwario

So waking up three hours before work doesn’t actually put you in the mood to make to breakfast, it just means you’ll be even hungrier once you go to work (and more groggy too, nice!)
