Movies What are some movies that will make me sad/depressed afterwards?

-Wristcutters[obvious TW mention of suicide]
-Interstellar

Honestly I don't watch a lot of sad movies, I guess? oof.

One of my favorite films but also depressing overall.
May be less of a cry movie depending on the person.

Remember 2015, great movie, loved it. Fantastic ending.

Esse filme me faz doer o coração no final, não sei se deveria... mas estou muito triste, mas é um ótimo filme (na minha opinião). Não sei se todos os espectadores se sentem assim, mas eu sim.

The Sixth Sense.... I highly recommend it. It's hard for me to have many movies that make me sad, but these are the ones.

2 of the most depressing movies ive watched. When the wind blows and The Elephant Man
When the Wind Blows is a difficult watch. It really communicates the bleakness of the situation so so well.
Children of Men was also mentioned in this thread, it gets a +1 from me too.

Has anyone seen After Life? Knows as Wonderful Life in Japan, I don’t wish to spoil it, but it certainly left me with thinking a good while about the scenario the characters are presented in the film.

Miracle Mile is a really good one, highly underrated movie from the 80s. If possible go into it blind the less you know the better.

Its an odd one for me but the only movie that somehow just gets me almost to tears just by thought of it because what the main-character lost in all his years no matter how he tried :

Just the thought to be immortal but see how one love of your life to another dies of old age and you cant die with them , while you suffer by the cycle of life to witness it over and over again .

Truly , this movie underlines the quote " Life is killing me " perfectly .

How has nobody mentioned The Road yet? That movie is depressing as hell, even if it ends somewhat positively like 28 Days Later- which is another great and depressing movie, and also one of my favorite movies of all time, along with Children of Men. That one's already been mentioned, but I'll mention it again 'cos it's really, really good. So is Blade Runner 2049, which shows what happens when you get really far along in a cyberpunk dystopia to when nuclear winter has fully set in and the slave caste is kept in line by forcing mental disorders upon them instead of an expiration date.

Oh, and Threads, The Last of Us* and The Divide are also depressing as hell. Nuclear war is kind of like that. As for The Last of Us, I honestly like it better than the games, which is saying something given that the first game tells one of the best stories in gaming. S1E3 and S1E5 in particular are great.

*Threads and TLoU are technically TV shows/streaming series, not movies, but still.

Threads is such a great film. It's the only film, which has disturbed me emotionally enough, that I don't want to see it again.

Big fan of Koreeda. I have After Life on Bluray. Very beautiful film.

I don't know if I'd qualify it as a tear-jerker, but Cutter's Way is definitely morose throughout and stuck with me for awhile

This movie's fairly unknown from what I understand but I really recommend it. Free on Amazon with Prime, last I checked. It's a neo-noire murder mystery not unlike Chinatown set in the post-Vietnam era. The Dad From Home Alone and The Big Lebowsky play a crippled veteran and manwhore allergic to any commitment, respectively. In light of a becoming a witness to a murder, the veteran becomes obsessed with bringing the killer to justice while Jeff Bridges is just trying to stay out of it.

I don't want to give too much away- but the general atmosphere, ambience and themes of the movie really give off an unshakeable, cynical and depressing vibe. John Heard is really a standout as Alex Cutter- he puts in a superb performance and you can almost feel his post-war seething through the screen.
