I've been playing a whole lot of Fight Night Round 3 lately, tearing it up as temu Barret Wallace from Final Fantasy 7 & Little Mac from Punch Out!! (the '09 version).
The tactician gameplay is top notch, though I still love & play the Fight Night PS2 trilogy as a whole.
Now Round 3 is fantastic and all, but like everything, it does has its flaws. You can't pick your walk out music anymore, or your entourage girls (they slashed half of that roster from Round 2), & for whatever reason, you can't pick Chicago as a hometown for your created boxer in career mode, even though 2 of the venues are in Chicago ( & also the fact that part of the game was also developed in Chicago too. As a Chicago native, I will never understand that.) One of the more baffling flaws in the game that makes me scratch my head is the halfed-ass EA Sports Cutman feature in between rounds. They simplified it too much in my opinion. But another one of the flaws that make me scratch my head , is one that for the longest time, I didn't mind, but the more I think about it, I just have have to ask myself, "But why would they do that?", and that's the letterbox format during the actual gameplay of the matches. (See screenshots below.)
The letterbox for cutscenes, that's normal, but still having the letterbox during the actual gameplay was..."certainly a choice" for the 5th generation of consoles. The Xbox 360 version didn't have that, but I never understood why its was present in the PS2 version, maybe the devs forgot to take it off or something. I know there's a Fight Night Round 3 HD texture pack floating around, but if there's a pnach file that gets rid of the letterbox during gameplay, please share it, I would appreciate it.
