Give me some recommendations on movies that will make me think about it afterwards and leave me emotionally heart wrenched from what I saw. The movie doesn't have to make you cry, but if it does that would also work as a good suggestion.

Some movies that have made my heartwrench or made me tear up in some way:

Yeah those are some serious tearjerkers. Most stuff from Studio Ghibli will do just that, and two of the ones I would recommend you already listed, so.

I assume you know or already have an idea of it, but i will say, Requiem for a dream. Never again a movie touched me like that in the ending.

That was one movie that I was missing. I was literally thinking about it after I posted this thread

Barefoot Gen is another anime movie about Hiroshima that's much more frontal and very powerful.
In the '80s, Toei made several movies with the writer Tomiko Miyao (and often Hideo Gosha directing) about women involved in the criminal underworld (prostitutes, geisha, yakuza's daughters etc.), usually around the early 1900s. They all tend to have very sad scenes and especially endings. The two I've seen so far are Onimasa and Yokiroh.

The 2006 documentary "Lake of Fire" is a good way to ruin an afternoon

This is the most shocked I ever felt at a movie, considering I watched it at the age of 13. Horror movies never did shit to me, but this? Man...

Look into japanese film "the cure" (1997). It's a relatively slow paced one, but it's hitting the right spot. It will make you question your sanity. Also, if you want to wreck yourself and you aren't afraid of watching violence unfold, there's always "Come and see".

Watch it if you already saw the anime. I also cried a lot lol
Taxi Driver: you said it already, it's a classic.
The Girl Who Leapt through Time: Enjoyed it.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl: Enjoyed the show/movie. Can't wait for the next season!

The best movie of all time.
