Underrated games...

This that I am about to present, is a game developed by Indie author ISAmu - 2007 - Japan - Windows PC platform.

The game mechanics, traces that of an Irem's Kung-Fu Master (1984) and that of a Konami's Yie Ar Kung-Fu (1984), with some rpg elements and several selectable characters and styles (each style, for each character) are to be added, so there is no shortage of classic "combos" and "super combos" on the side.

The game is completely in native Japanese language, so you will need to have the Oriental language pack installed on your PC.

Here is the gameplay link:

It can definitely be said, that this is a REAL, OBSCURE, UNDERRATED and HIDDEN GEM game simultaneously.

So, happy hunting and have fun. (Because you will have fun, I assure you) :)

Man i played some games i would love more people to get around to this year but if i had to pick then tail concerto and crystar. those are some underrated gems right there

  • Ninja Five-O (GBA): A very solid ninja action game.
  • Muchi Muchi Pork (Arcade): Vertical shooter in which you play cute chubby anime girls on flying exercise bikes trying to get revenge on the wizard who made them chubby.
  • Layla (Famicom): Sci-fi anime girl platformer in which you save another anime girl.
  • Wurm (NES): Side scroller, horizontal shooter, vertical shooter, and FPS. Ya, all that is compacted into a NES game.
  • Kickle Cubicle (Arcade, NES): Cute action puzzle game. Arcade version is 16-bit. A very similar game to it called Little Medusa was released on multiple platforms (NES, SNES, MD, and Steam, I think).

Personal note:

There are only two games, which from my point of view can boast the 'excellence among the 90s arcade-scrolling fighting games (including graphic style, a valuable skill in rehashing the pixe-art of those years, typical arcade gameplay and story)

The first is a Street Of Rage Remake by Bomber Link, the second is this game made by Jonsilva.

Directly from a:

- Supercar Gattiger (スーパーカー ガッタイガー) - Original Author of the referenced manga, Hideharu Imamichi.

For those who remember this series, you should not miss this game, which replays its dynamics in futuristic formula racing.

Golden Axe Myth

It was a game developed in 2007, entirely Ex-Novo by the talented Italian Artist BMarchetto (Barito-No-Marchetto, Big fan of an Hokuto-No-Ken) on OpenBOR engine.

It can be considered as the summa of the whole Golden Axe saga starting from the arcade of that far 1989 by SEGA.

For those who love Fantasy Hack'n Slash, it is a precious little gem to include in one's soft library.

IDK if "underrated" is the right term and if "overlooked" is the more correct term but i guess IMO its both but the game i choose for this thread is, FREE RUNNING for psp, ps2, wii and pc

its a great little parkour game and is actually the last real game made by core design so its also kind of bittersweet not helped by one of the tutorial missions optimistically teasing that you will be "raiding tombs" next time around

if you dont know, core was actually going to make their own tomb raider 1 remake until that was canned in favor of a crystal dynamics developed remake so this is a strange leftover of that
speaking of tomb raider, it plays basically like an "extreme" version of classic tomb raider you have tank-ish controls with very elaborate parkouring and its structured similarly to something like tony hawk and its honestly a blast, the game has been on steam since 2019 and its honestly a decent blast all around at least in my opinion because playing this game is really refreshing today and even honestly back in the mid to late 2000s because a lot of games then and now just really love to limit your movement and make it heavily context sensitive to a frankly psychotic degree mostly in a bid to make it harder for players to get to places they shouldnt be and then there is this game which has you perform different button combinations to do different flavors of jumps but also all of the terrain you see and is inside of the level boundary is 100% usable to you and i think just watching some random guy on youtube's footage of him just fucking around it will illustrate my point way better than words so here is a video of a random guy playing this game way better than i ever could

like the fact that he, i and potentially you can just land on the top of that basketball backboard instead of being pushed aside like you would in a lot of other games no matter the time of release is frankly incredible and refreshing
this game isnt perfect by any means but i think its just neat and maybe you'll like it too if you can get to grips with the controls

Anyone play Cel Damage or Gitaroo Man? One is a racer based on wacky cartoons like Looney Tunes or Wacky Races. Has a reality tv show plot. Gitaroo Man is a rhythm game. But I don't remember it too well. Played it a few years back, really cool artstyle and music.

I took some time to think about this. I can think of a decent chunk of games that are good enough and underrated, but one stood out above all the others...

Stella Glow! This one was a super nice surprise. It was suggested to me because it's a Tactical RPG, which is my favorite genre. It's not a perfect game, nothing is, but when I started playing it I didn't put it down until I finished it. It's pretty high on my list of Tactical RPGs and I've been wanting to replay it since I beat it.
