Underrated games...

The Laura Bow games are pretty underrated.

So is Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet.

Anachronox doesn't get nearly enough love, either.
I haven't thought of Laura Bow in a milllllllion years, I got so mad playing The Colonel's Bequest when someone showed me the secret passages I missed EVERY SINGLE TIME

Edit: On topic...I'm having a hard time thinking of underrated, and not just "obscure".

Maybe Working Designs Lunar? For all the complaining people make about it, I played it a dozen times back in the 90's without issue.

It's a tremendously punishing franchise... you can get a game over by eating a sandwich, but it won't even tell you just how screwed you are.

i wanna know some underrated games... some REAL.. underrated games hehe
Gunnm Kasei no Kioku: Gunnm Martian Memory a game which was only released in japan. Based off the Battle Angel Alita series. And also Last Armageddon an obscure RPG that also never came out of Japan.

Yeah I know some people hate them but I've always really liked Working Designs' works. Their PS1 Lunar 1 & 2 are my preferred versions as well.

Mighty Number 9, while not being a fantastic game, was very underrated in my option.
It was decent and I enjoyed it.

When people discuss Earthbound-like RPG, they always bring Undertale and LISA to the desk, even the obscurer mentions only bring Yume Nikki, but gentlemen, THIS is the one that started the trend

This game may look like another Undertale Ripoff, but it actually came in 2009, a solid SIX YEARS BEFORE, it aged regularly in terms of gameplay, being so easy even the hardest bosses will die if you choose AUTO combat as long as you grind to at least get equipment, but the story is so entrailing and cryptic you want to keep playing, is not a happy story tho, so play carefully

If that is not your cup of tea, try something fluffy

RPG explorers with a sweet story of romance with harsh comment on racism coated in a carnivore-hervivore conflict, the characters are memorable and they aren't that long owing to a lack of RPGisms, bring tissues

Ragnarok Battle Offline, a PC beat em up set in the Ragnarok Online world, featuring many places of the original in a cartoon 2D style. Features a level system, classes with unique movesets and plenty of stages with multiple bosses each. It also has an excellent sense of humor, but you may only get the references if you played the MMO.

Great game series by NomnomNami.

IKR

The final chapter is currently in development, so if you want the updates so far for free hurry up since she is going to make the game paid once she finish it

The Webcomic, Another Piece of Candy, is also neat

I might have to look into that some time, since I haven't read it before.

Zenonia Games for the Phone. Ones 1-3. Fans even made a remaster of Games 1-3, to be able to play on more updated phones.

Also, would the PS2 version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 by Black Box, be considered Underrated? The PC and PS2 Versions are completely different.

This that I am about to present, is a game developed by Indie author ISAmu - 2007 - Japan - Windows PC platform.

The game mechanics, traces that of an Irem's Kung-Fu Master (1984) and that of a Konami's Yie Ar Kung-Fu (1984), with some rpg elements and several selectable characters and styles (each style, for each character) are to be added, so there is no shortage of classic "combos" and "super combos" on the side.

The game is completely in native Japanese language, so you will need to have the Oriental language pack installed on your PC.

Here is the gameplay link:

It can definitely be said, that this is a REAL, OBSCURE, UNDERRATED and HIDDEN GEM game simultaneously.

So, happy hunting and have fun. (Because you will have fun, I assure you) :)

Man i played some games i would love more people to get around to this year but if i had to pick then tail concerto and crystar. those are some underrated gems right there

I cannot really tell what is objectively underrated because something not popular isn't systematically great.

I could say Oni on the PS2 but it's not a flawless game.

  • Ninja Five-O (GBA): A very solid ninja action game.
  • Muchi Muchi Pork (Arcade): Vertical shooter in which you play cute chubby anime girls on flying exercise bikes trying to get revenge on the wizard who made them chubby.
  • Layla (Famicom): Sci-fi anime girl platformer in which you save another anime girl.
  • Wurm (NES): Side scroller, horizontal shooter, vertical shooter, and FPS. Ya, all that is compacted into a NES game.
  • Kickle Cubicle (Arcade, NES): Cute action puzzle game. Arcade version is 16-bit. A very similar game to it called Little Medusa was released on multiple platforms (NES, SNES, MD, and Steam, I think).

Personal note:

There are only two games, which from my point of view can boast the 'excellence among the 90s arcade-scrolling fighting games (including graphic style, a valuable skill in rehashing the pixe-art of those years, typical arcade gameplay and story)

The first is a Street Of Rage Remake by Bomber Link, the second is this game made by Jonsilva.

Directly from a:

- Supercar Gattiger (スーパーカー ガッタイガー) - Original Author of the referenced manga, Hideharu Imamichi.

For those who remember this series, you should not miss this game, which replays its dynamics in futuristic formula racing.

Golden Axe Myth

It was a game developed in 2007, entirely Ex-Novo by the talented Italian Artist BMarchetto (Barito-No-Marchetto, Big fan of an Hokuto-No-Ken) on OpenBOR engine.

It can be considered as the summa of the whole Golden Axe saga starting from the arcade of that far 1989 by SEGA.

For those who love Fantasy Hack'n Slash, it is a precious little gem to include in one's soft library.
