I took some time to think about this. I can think of a decent chunk of games that are good enough and underrated, but one stood out above all the others...
View attachment 11286Stella Glow! This one was a super nice surprise. It was suggested to me because it's a Tactical RPG, which is my favorite genre. It's not a perfect game, nothing is, but when I started playing it I didn't put it down until I finished it. It's pretty high on my list of Tactical RPGs and I've been wanting to replay it since I beat it.
A party game where the guy who has kissed more girls wins the inheritance from their dying grandpa. It sounds weird but in my opinion, the best games are.
Anyone play Cel Damage or Gitaroo Man? One is a racer based on wacky cartoons like Looney Tunes or Wacky Races. Has a reality tv show plot. Gitaroo Man is a rhythm game. But I don't remember it too well. Played it a few years back, really cool artstyle and music. View attachment 10171 View attachment 10173
Second most underrated and obscure game IMO cuz it didn't gain notoriety until It was an Easter Egg game on the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection disc for the XBox 360...
I also want to add Tail Concerto, Solatorobo, Shining Force (And pretty much all of the Shining Force games that was made by Camelot), Primal Rage, and Beyond The Beyond.
I've read pretty bad reviews for these two PSP games, "Coded Arms" and "Coded Arms Contagion", but I enjoyed them, so in my opinion they are underrated but worth a try if you like first-person-shooter View attachment 7130
This. Back when Konami wasn't scared to do something unique and different, this is one of the older (and one of the few on PSP) roguelike/roguelite games. It was poorly recieved back then but nowadays I feel this game has a whole lot of value despite it's somewhat repetitive loop.
If Konami ever revisited this IP I really feel like it could be huge in the modern day.
Also, maybe, "Suikoden Tierkreis" for Nintendo DS.
I got it on release and I remember I've liked it a lot, spent many hours grinding with my favourite characters and making sure to recruit them all!
Its a very unique fighting game, i will call it a turn based fighting game
while there is no translation for it, the control is simple! the combination are only 4 directional button and 4 face buttons (E.G. holding down and pressing Y once the bar filled up)
ofc each of them has unique skills such as absorbing other's skill, heal etc
a must for Yu Yu Hakusho fan
for non-fan its still an interesting concept
yomawari series specially the first one are the definition of beauty is in simplicity, the games are part of so called cute horror genre
there is also rule of the rose and it's literally a vibe, but there are many YT videos about it so it's not as obscure as before, speaking of obscure
this one is also a horror game ( so many horror games that are lost in time ) but it's not so heavy on the frights, there are some memorable moments if you look pass the janky mechanics
now some licensed games rapid fire that are freaking awesome
a fun game with many gameplay mechanic and shockingly good combat in later stages, and soundtrack is god like, you should at least check out the flying stages sound track, your ears will thank you
on of the best beat em up games I've ever played, back in the day beat em ups were simple but this game asked what if we let the player slow down time, grab the remaining parts of the enemy and throw it to the other ones then deflect the lasers and then finish the fight by teleporting and slashing all the enemies Vergil style? the answer is one of the best star wars games ever and a hard sob to 100%
just like the handheld version, this game is is a master class in how to design combat mechanics, tons of combos, many grapples that lead to more combos, best sword play in any star wars game and coolest duels but sadly it lives under the shadow of force unleashed which is not a bad game but has nothing on this gem of a game in the combat department
this right here is the greatest batman game before the arkham series, every stage is awesome ( except for the two face, that one sucks ), combat is simple but it makes you feel like batman it's so satisfying to roll under the bullets then grabbing the enemy and throwing him into the other one, graphicks are way to good for an snes licensed game and the action set pieces are amazing like you have to use batman gadgets like heat googles to finde your way around the riddler's maze or using non lethal spray to put the civilians that are under the fear gas influence to sleep or chasing after catwoman rooftop to rooftop... god damn I sold myself on this game I'm gonna replay it, just one more thing the SNES and genesis versions are not the same game
just a forgotten batman game that I like to mention here and then, it was an ambitious title but you can't do much on the GBC I guess, music is a banger specially the boss themes
the most chaotic beat em up game I've ever played, I don't know what I'm doing half of the time but I'm winning and having fun so that's cool I guess, when you hear batman forever people only remember those god awful snes and genesis games but this one is a nice ride
just a cool but ball busting beat em up, japanese cover is spectacular
still holds up to this day, I heard there is a remaster version but psp version still has more content some how
the cell shaded graphics and fun move sets makes go back to this game from time to time
not as good as everything or nothing but a fun 3rd person shooter non the less
dynasty warriors Naruto? yes please
it's probably nostalgia but this game looks good and it's not that janky, give it a shot if you ever wanted a tomb raider in the skin of a resident evil game
it's based on the manga named Dororo, you play as a samurai who wants to kill the demons that took his body parts, this game is genius, let me explain why, so there is a vibration option in the menu just like any other game but as you play the game you see it doesn't work but you don't care it's nothing game breaking it's just a bug, wrong, you don't feel anything because you haven't kill the boss to to reclaim your sense of touch, and when I learned this it blew my mind, truly a game way ahead of it's time
the developers sat down and asked, what if we make a lego game but more epic? well it's not more epic but they tried and made a really fun game
it's actually pretty fun and it had an excessive card battle mini game, fun combat and beautiful cell shaded graphics that you won't see it if you emulate it, emulation is broken for this bad boy, no crashes or anything, just some graphical glitches that will lessen the experience
and last but not least we have stuntmaster, hands down the coolest action game on the ps1, combat is way too complex with moves that you might have never seen I myself found out you can wall ran into a back flip cart wheel attack, there is a video on you tube that show cases all the moves but even that misses some moves, stages still hold up to this day, it's a fantastic experience and a game that every action and beat em up game enjoyer must play
