If you like Pinball, try Flipnic by the Ape Escape devs. It's a Pinball game that specifically takes advantage of the fact that it's a video game, if that makes any sense.

ps2 library is still so good, so lit, plus, playing these games upscaled and on better quality than before along with the other emulator hacks, is a big plus

💪
That Jet Li games looks amazing

what's virtua quest like?
It's one of those rare games that's actually about what the name indicates lol. You are right that it's a Virtua Fighter spin-off.

On the paper game sounds cool: It takes place in a future people connect to a virtual reality to have fun and stuff. It sounds like 13th Floor and Matrix cyberpunk shit but the actual execution is an ordinary action RPG that takes place in modern setting instead of an ancient fantasy universe but what drags down the game is platformer elements and in general it's a game designed for little kids. Not to mention all the childish cartoon generic BS and its anime version. It's like a game developed by Hideo Kojima like if the game takes 10 hours to finish you spend 3 hours platforming and 2 hours fighting, rest is cutscene lol.

What is interesting in the game is you gain abilities of Virtua Fighter characters and thus you can edit your fighting moves set in a very simple way but for its time it's "wow the game is ahead of its time" shit that people are more familiar with this gameplay idea from God Hand, Remember Me and Absolver.

Technically graphics are ok, animation and facial expression of people ok, the whole idea of the game is good but execution is poorly made. If the game had targetted teens instead of little kids and had a "story" to begin with without platforming BS the game would be a very popular game lol. Without its customizable combat move set idea it would be one of the worse beat 'em up game to the date when older games would be way more advanced than this game, and despite this feature the game is barely good.

Tales_of_Innocence_boxart.jpg

I've been hearing a lot of different ones between Legendia, Innocence, Zestiria, Arise, and Xillia 2. I personally would say Innocence. The story is pretty good for a Tales of game, let alone a handheld one. I understand people's gripe with the main character, even though who he really is and/or meant to be is a total badass. The typical geek to giga model. Innocence R expands on the DS story with voiced over lines and cutscenes. PLUS the opening song in the DS version which they first show in the Vita version is as good as it is memorable. It's a must play in my opinion. Legendia is second to that. What are you guys' thoughts?

legendia, innocence, destiny 2, eternia and graces are actually underrated, fr

and most of them are misunderstood/badly treated for no reason, at least, now, they get better ratings from many tales users, when they properly play them

Maybe not underrated, but I feel like Vesperia is overlooked a lot.
Yeah, I’d definitely call it over-hated if anything because it still feels decently popular. I’ve only played a few and it’s the only one I’ve played for more than like 20 hours.

I’m biased because I love it, but I unironically think the plot structure and motivations of certain characters fly over many people’s heads if they play it when they’re younger which seems to be a common point of contention. It was so refreshing playing a Tales game that felt like a bunch of decently sized adventures and a cast where the PoV character is a grown man (even if he’s still young but 21 is like middle aged for anime-y standards lol).

Zestiria underrated? I'd say it's rated just right. They never bothered to show Arma Dylan, which was the biggest disappointment in gaming to this day.

Haven´t played Innocence yet but I love the opening of the DS version, also the green hair guy reminds me of Max from Dark Cloud 2.
I think Tempest is way more underrated.

I was just playing this a couple weeks ago, I was disappointed to find out it's mostly dungeon crawler. I got filtered by the guild system doing a line of stupid fetch quests after finding out I'm basically a demigod.

Maaaaaaan Tempest was one hell of a proof of concept for Innocence. Execution was rough in a lot of areas, but there is something there. Here's hoping for some out-of-left-field remake. Hearts was its' own 2D enriched goodness on the DS

Xillia 2 and Graces F they both get a lot of flack for their writing.
They both have incredible combat systems l also like graces F cast a lot too.

I'd say it's Tales of Zestiria, but mostly because it actually kind of sucks ass.

It's buggy.

The camera is completely broken in co-op it's crazy like it will get stuck in the corner and a wall.

The middle of the game is pretty devoid of any interesting plot developments and also it doesn't really connect with the next game that's a prequel, Tales of Berseria, in any way that's satisfying. It might even take away a lot from what that game tried honestly.

BUT!!!!!!! The start of it and the climax of it are so good it almost doesn't matter. Mostly. It still kind of sucks, but I love the characters anyway.

The anime is complete shit.

I got so bored by the end of it that I just switched to the easiest difficulty for the final boss. I hate that you need to do a certain amount of damage to him to survive his attack, so you basically have to grind or switch to easy.

Apocalypse on the PS1 is a cool action game from Neversoft starring Bruce Willis. It's violent, has fun weapons, cool changes in camera perspective, great one liners, and an interesting control scheme. Its engine would later be used for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Spider-Man

The Sexy Brutale - A really good puzzle/stealth game with a macabre tone and memorable characters. This one's a masterpiece and I can't recommend it highly enough. Try to play it spoiler free for the best experience

The Deception series has some of the most unique gameplay I have ever seen where you play as an antagonist (who always seem to be female) killing heroes and innocent people in hilarious and violent ways using traps. The storylines usually are pretty dark and supernatural. It's like horror meets Home Alone.

Evil Dead Regeneration - A really fun Evil Dead game. It's way better than that Ash vs Evil Dead game that came out recently. I haven't played Fistful of Broomstick, but some people like that one too

The Red Star fuses shooter and brawler gameplay together. It's challenging but always fair. Some people call it a beat 'em up, but it goes into bullet hell shooter territory with a lot of the boss fights. It has two characters with distinct play styles, co-op, and an unlockable third character with yet another completely different play style.

Three Dirty Dwarves - A very unique beat 'em up with a novel story, unique art style, and a GREAT soundtrack

A King's Tale Final Fantasy XV is a fun little beat 'em up that I never hear people talk about. It plays and controls well and makes good use of well known FF enemies.

The Dishwasher Vampire Smile is one of the best 2d beat 'em up/hack and slash games I've ever played. It's very dark, surreal, and violent. The action is fast and challenging, almost feels like a 2d equivalent to modern Ninja Gaiden games. It's actually a sequel, the first game was harder. This one feels more balanced and fair. If you're familiar with the Salt and Sanctuary games, this came from the same developer

Spy Hunter should be familiar to retro gamers. The 2001 game is an awesome vehicular action game and way better than the original arcade game IMO

Try shadow of Rome very underrated game by Capcom

- Crimson Tears
- Dragon Quest V PS2 remake
- Siren and Siren 2
- Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
- Nightmare of Druaga (if you are into roguelikes, although it's not a pure "generate your character for one self-contained run" roguelike, it has potential carryover and the game is designed around it like with Shiren the Wanderer, Torneko mystery dungeon games)
- Kunoichi/Nightshade (semi-sequel to PS2 Shinobi)
- Shining Force EXA
- Tenchu Fatal Shadows
- Trapt / Kagero 2: Dark Illusion (Deception series, bit of an acquired taste for setting up traps, luring your pursuers into them and then triggering them at the right time to chain them and get big points for kills)
