I'll watch that next! All I really know about Kalinsky is that he was in a few spaghetti westerns, starred in The Wrath of God, that tolberone story when they had the helicopter crash and obviously how abusive he was to his family. I had no idea he tried to kill Herzog but it doesn't surprise me.. The stories about them together read like the logs of an SS13 game!

Since you mention liking the Dollar trilogy I'm assuming you have no issue with slower films, but just so you're aware - it's a slow burn kind of thing. I definitely enjoyed it a lot!

And real-life SS13 is the perfect way to put it. ?

Haha, well-played. To be honest, I thought people disliked Ben Stiller, and didn’t care for Jason Statham. So they popped into my head but you raise a fair point.
On a personal, I tend to not worry too much about answers since it’s quite common for users to come in and not be sure what to submit, but it is fair I should’ve explained stuff a bit more.
Ben never won an Oscar, and he hasn’t had a presence in movies in years (something which I might be wrong), not to mention I’ve seen him mocked in some movie circles I’ve been in, largely due to being in a lot of mediocre romcoms (that I happen to like).
I probably should’ve written that explanation in advance. Sorry!

I suppose there’s also a large discrepancy between “underrated artistically” and “underrated by the industry they work for”. Should’ve clarified that as well.

That’s completely fair. To be honest, a part of me doesn’t want the thread to be more arguing about the definition as that could risk derailing it but I understand I’m partially at fault here and am willing to take accountability by removing the Ben Stiller and my other post to remove future confusion. I understand I have some responsibility I must meet as the thread creator and shouldn’t be egotistical about it. Sorry if that’s the attitude I gave.

Now… on the other hand, it would be unironically hilarious if, outside of my control, the thread starts discussing the definition anyways. I dunno. My little gremilin brain doesn’t mind the occasional chaos. But don’t worry, I’m more clear-headed and going to remove the images as an apology. (Plus I’m not in a good mood because of an irl thing I’ll explain in a status post)

Kiefer Sutherland is underrated IMO. He has many great roles in film, television and even video games.

Even though he is arguably the sole true movie star that remains, the one A-List actor who has never pivoted to TV in any format, Tom Cruise remains underrated as an acting talent: his persona carries his movies and sustains his endless presence in the public imagination and discourse, but his acting prowess is always treated as incidental, as if he isn't extremely good at any role he touches. He's simply magnetic beyond all belief, regardless of how much someone knows about his personal life. Underrated to the public because of the sheer weight of his star power, but a complete industry legend based on the tales of anyone who works with him.

A lot of this is chosen/self-inflicted on his part, as he has moved to largely impersonal action roles because of the one-two punch of the Oprah couch interview in 2005 & the increased speculation about what he knows/doesn't know about Scientology. His roles since have been more or less 'Tom Cruise: As You May Know Him' rather than the dramas and personal roles that made his bread and butter in the '90s and pre-Oprah '00s

His plan for the rest of the 2020s is to become a dramatic actor once more, but I'm genuinely curious whether his plan to be more intimate with the public again will work.

Especially Val Kilmer deserved so much more but was very underrated in Hollywood .
