Toxicity in games

You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.
I've done it more than I've seen it from others hehe, what can I say? It's completely normal, he who has never gotten mad at a game knows shit. But there's a difference between throwing insults like a MF and being outright toxic, something who is the later will never be appeased and in that case best is to leave him alone till it passes.

Once you understand that all those insults are just the result of rage, a human emotion, you start seeing things better. When it happens I just try to calm my homies or expect them to draw a line when it happens to me so I don't fuck it up.

If it gets out of bounds well, there's a reason why you can block people in most forums and games, but I'd never do that, unless it's some jackass (uncommon, but they exist) you can always reason with some kind words.

At the end of the day, it all gets resolved with a "nigga calm the fuck down it's just a game" were here to have fun, not stress our asses to the moon ::lol
i was a guild leader in wow.
I can't think of a more miserable position in terms of dealing with toxicity than a fucking guild leader in that game::lol, good memories, I was on this guild where outright every fucking raid was more about complaining than actually working together... good times, miss WoW.

I always wanted to be guild leader... but always relegated that position to a friend out of kindness. Hats off to you for doing one of my childhood dreams::beer

About toxicity WoW certainly attracted that kind of shit on itself, it didn't help that it's mechanics were very predatory so players were always fed up. In that regard FFXI had an advantage over WoW, that albeit still abusive in the player sometimes, it was a nicer game with a very welcoming community, often much more mature... the kind of people who just want to enjoy the moment with homies.

Guitar Hero: Metallica has it.

I've yet to run into toxic players that aren't extremely over-the-top with their insults. Listening to someone crash out over a shitty mic is funny to me, and laughter tends to piss them off even more.

Other than that, the toxicity that does get to me is in MMOs. I've always mained the healer role and the entitled, deranged behavior I've witnessed in my time is unreal. I know I play well, so I don't care about insults aimed at me but I loathe seeing others get torn down by people who are, at best, sub-mediocre at the game but think they're God's gift to the party. I swear, co-op play brings out the worst in people.
People get mad when you tell them not to stand in stupid. Like hello, if you spam 'I NEED HEALING' when your placement is bad, I'm gonna let you die.

Gran Turismo 7 daily races. You overtake someone & they get incredibly salty about it, so they just send it into the back of you in the next corner. Very annoying, as one could imagine.

Preach! One of my worst encounters was with a Paladin tank in WoW who was so inadequately geared that he was dying to the first trash mobs in a raid instance despite all four healers going ham on him. The first time was nearly a wipe, so then he pulled again before the raid party was finished reviving/rebuffing so that the second time was absolutely a wipe.

Proceeded to call me a trash healer after I called a vote to kick. I had the highest healing output.

Yes GT7 community can be tough sometimes, I stick to the paddocks mostly because of that ::beer But the only real solution is to find people to organize racing events. For that single reason I slowly steered (hehe...) towards Assetto Corsa because it's just easier in that regard, but in public races both communities suck.

At this stake my mind has done everything to forget all those shitty moments from WoW, but honestly, I am quite fond of those instances on which things went south for the party and we had to go again, it was really funny... I miss that game, being tank was the easiest way to fuck it up haha! ::rofl

I've had instances where the wipes were fun but that wasn't one of them. The paladin refused to respond to chat when we asked him what was going on. He only started using raid chat to talk shit once the kick vote was underway.

I do have some good memories of WoW but those were exclusively when I was helping players learn new dungeons and instances. Those players had great attitudes, they listened to and implemented advice, they learned quickly and so whenever we wiped, it was due to an honest mistake. They picked themselves back up and were ready to go!

I have nothing against toxicity in online-games .

We have salty idiots , mad scrubs and fragile egos in online gaming since day one . It never bothered me to be insulted in an online match because its mostly comedy gold for me for how bad they are and often how bad i am . Yeah , i even laugh about myself very often . A rare species of human , i guess .
I even sonetimes push them to go nuclear levels of temper-tantrums without throwing insults at them . Its funny and rarely even they realise how stupid they made themselves .

But Toxicity in fandoms of different media-platforms that goes above and beyond trash-talking to actual defamation and physical attacks ?

Thats fucked up and derranged .
And im for gatekeeping myself . Throwing titles , insults , defame people , attack them or even try to ruin their day is already beyond the line of reason .

Arguments and facts should be used .

Going personal with the intend of damaging and/or hurting an innocent person for longterm suffering is utterly fucked up and has nothing to do with being a fan .

However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?

Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!

Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...
toxic banter among friends is the best ! but real toxicity like when you can tell it comes from a place of hate is something different. i also believe in that balance of yours that you mentioned earlier.

but games like league of legends give other players way too much power , so some places would be amazing if it didn't exist
smile.

Me and my wife play fortnite duos.. When people get knocked and aren't near their partner, I take them into a corner to teabag them while switching to playing Baby Don't Hurt Me or Never Gonna Give You Up

My ultimate hope is that I started an argument between the two partners because the other one didn't show up fast enough to stop the madness.

Diablo 2 was also notorious for toxic players
especially at its peak in the early 2000's
it was full of scammers & you learned fast not to trust anyone
but the PvP was the most toxic bs ever
and people could say what ever they wanted in chat it was crazy

Getting you prepared for road rage in later life. It rarely happens, but , they would like you to think it happens a lot.

Man im getting sick of the word toxic just call them what we use to call them assholes. And I met my fair of assholes I been called all manner of things I been told they gonna F my mom and so on. But it does not phase me I been bullied all my life to the point of almost ending my self. What so random muppet says in a CoD lobby is pure nothing I just laugh and ignore it.

If you can´t handle some asshole on internet how are you handling real life ?? Real life has 1000 times more assholes than a CoD lobby every have. If you can´t handle some one calling you C or G or N then how do you survive the real world ?

Yeah I sound mean but man this excessive nagging about asshole will not do anything the only way they go away is if you remove freedom of speech or bury them 10 feet underground.

People need tougher skin. As I said I been bullied to the point of almost ending my self but im not crying when some one call me the R word. Don´t let the shit get to you.

Learn to ignore, Mute and don´t watch chat I played mmo games for 20 years and for the past 10 I always closed or minimized general chat/world chat because people are bloody shit.

Be angry at me how much you want but I been in the DEEP DEEP Dark but it did not make weak it taught me how to deal with it. If you gonna handle real life you better taught it up life is not fair and never will be.

Or you can ban ever single one that pisses you of or remove freedom of speech and hang assholes.

I mean if you wanna turn in to reddit that Ban you for saying Shit or the F word or ban you when they don´t agree with you be my guest
I was trying to figure out how to express my opinion on this, but it turns out Questless Knight did it for me.

I think people, in general, need thicker skin these days. If you can't deal with someone being an asshole without falling to pieces, you need to figure that shit out. Or just hide in a bubble. Assholes suck but they're always going to exist and honestly I don't want to live in a world where other people get to decide what thoughts and feelings you're "allowed" to express because they deem it offensive "to them"

Go to any series that changed drastically over the years and you'll see it gets a billion times worse.
And yeah, there's always some merit to it, sometimes the older games were just better, no debate there, I will not argue otherwise or listen to anyone who says otherwise. But other times the newer stuff is fine. Sometimes both are good and the new stuff is just different.
Some fanbases have it worse than others, look at the Final Fantasy fanbase and see how insane any game after 7 (or for a really bad look, any game after 10). Others are annoying but not genuinely insufferable to exist within the vicinity of.

And i've been there, I have argued my point in positivity of some new stuff thats hated by classic fans and i've argued my point towards some modern fans, but jesus christ guys.

Unless you just mean general toxicity and not referring to other players in which case if Assassins Creed as a franchise was a person I would do awful things that get me locked up in alcatraz

Meh,trashtalking and any kind of level of hurtfull word and insult in gaming is fine by me, what annoys me is people that are supposed to be part of your team or something screwing the game for everyone else on purpouse.
