Toxicity in games

Unless you just mean general toxicity and not referring to other players in which case if Assassins Creed as a franchise was a person I would do awful things that get me locked up in alcatraz
hey hey take it easy, the greatness of the early Assassin's Creed titles shouldn't be tarnished by their modern installments. That said you're right about the FF thing but only for a very minor group of fans... most people who love FF as much as me are pretty damn chill, at least the ones I've met
Or just hide in a bubble
hehe like this? no hiding is not the correct way to say it, getting over it sounds nicer.

Assholes suck but they're always going to exist and honestly I don't want to live in a world where other people get to decide what thoughts and feelings you're "allowed" to express because they deem it offensive "to them"
My thoughts exactly, just let people be.

I was trying to figure out how to express my opinion on this, but it turns out Questless Knight did it for me.

I think people, in general, need thicker skin these days. If you can't deal with someone being an asshole without falling to pieces, you need to figure that shit out. Or just hide in a bubble. Absolutely, people are getting into serious trouble for hurting peoples feelings, these days. It's outlandish, absurd & tyrannical.

I actually enjoyed the toxicity of games and think it added to the experience, ever since we lost that online gaming has become kinda stale imo.
I can understand that moderators are needed, especially for young children's games like roblox and that a criminal element needs to be stopped from potentially abusing these children but moderators in older gaming just need common sense and a good eye. No need for banning trolls expressing themselves in their own way.

Half the time that I get r*p* threats in the rare event I play an online game it's by female players and/or players under the age of 12. None of these are serious threats, they're made by people with limited knee-jerk imagination. You want to hurt my fee-fees? Good luck, I respond to all such comments with laughter.

It really has gone to pot if under 12's are sending rape threats. They are probably repeating something they saw online. Not sure, the internet has benefitted us at all, tbh. Mental health was a lot better without it.

Speaking of mental health, had a quick browse at the mental health thread, and plenty sharks are pushing toxic treatments over there. One wizard said something like "lobotomy doesn't take place anymore, it's barbaric". It takes place alright. It takes place sneakily through prescribed medication.

It's not that I enjoy toxicity per se, but I'd choose WoW's chats over FF14 any day. I mean, I like that FF14's community is quite nice overall, but sometimes I feel like they want to be *too* nice, and I like the occasional banter, drama and trolling (to an extent)

Well that's many opinions to gloss at and posts overall attitude seems to range from not being toxic at all to enjoying toxic banter (especially with friends)

Guitar Hero: Metallica has it.
How the hell does guitar game has toxicity

You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.

However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?

Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!

Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...

A lot of posts here have said it much better than I can but in my experience it's only when the game itself doesn't have a proper community that regulates itself that it becomes unbearable. Anyone that's ever played an old school MMORPG in it's time or a game that allows you to host your own servers will be able to tell you about all the unique interactions they've had, the michievious people make it more memorable.

Some of my earliest memories in XI are from a Tarutaru DRK named Glibby who spent most of her time being a nuisance in the public chats, annoying people, acting like a pest and generally speaking if she was pulling mobs it was to train them in the starting zone. Glibby was probably one of the funniest trolls I've ever known. They often helped new players as much as they made their lives a misery in good humoured ways and they made the server better for it. She was like a big (some times bratty) sister that occasionally went a little too far.

For me it only becomes an issue when people go out of their way to be abusive in desctructive, hateful ways, with a clear intent to cause harm. There's a line between what Glibby was doing which is harmless pranks and someone who goes out of their way to stalk others.

Wow you still remember her name? After how many years exactly.....experiences like these make MP truly amazing

Toxicity in online games aka "not being a actual pussy and growing some thick skin" as i call it. ::thumbsupwario

thats the spirit taking it in the chin always, after all you rise up and keep going after seeing your face in the mirror every morning, you are stronger that me and everybody else here. ::bigboss /s

It's a more real experience. If there is a toxic character in the group, guild, whatever and he pisses you off, you get to see what you are in. You either accept it or you move on to a different group or guild. I think the policing is a lot more insidious. Let the groups form as they may.

I like to play competitive games with my friends, since there is more equipment and we follow a strategy, there are rarely random people who help in the games, I prefer with my friends since we are more connected

Toxic has been turned into such a generalized statement nowadays. It's really all in how people perceive it, just like how not everyone will agree with my view. One persons version of toxic could be seen as harmless to another. I mean obviously someone just being a dick or trolling is. For instance I am sarcastic and blunt by nature, it got me into all kinds of trouble back in the early days of WOW I got booted from my long time guild during Wrath because I didn't take it seriously enough and joked around whenever we would wipe. I'm sure some of those guys thought I was being toxic for joking about their anger, but I am pretty sure the GM screaming profanities at me and the other guy for accidently pulling the extra mobs was the toxic one.

To be honest, I think that any group where you're basically throwing completely random people together is going to be full of bullshit because a group is only as smart as the dumbest person in it and there are some dumb MFers playing online games.

Personally, I mostly avoid voice chat in online games because I just don't like it. I don't even like telephoning people I know, let alone complete strangers. Something about being able to hear their voices without seeing them, I guess?

Either way, I've experienced 'toxicity' in games before, people throwing out slurs and whatnot, but 9 times out of 10 it's coming from a cunt and I'm just gonna mute them. I am here to play "video game", my guy, not listen to your fuckin' thesis on why slurs are the best. Or your shit music choices for that matter.

Do people still do that shit? Blast crappy tunes from their spotify over their microphone? It was a staple of online chats back in the day IIRC.

Reminds me. People using their mic constantly during screen share watch parties on those sorts of sites are pretty much assholes.

It's difficult, that's why when it comes to playing online, I play with my friends and not with random people. I've had people behave rudely and shout.

Can't say I've ever experienced anything that truly upset me. I've heard every offensive word in the book back in the early XBL days. While they may offend some people, I'm not one of those people. I guess that makes me a monster or something, but I can't be bothered to be upset over words.

Word birdshot does kinda have potential to hurt people, but personalized attacks are much more effective at it.

I've played online games for ages now, and honestly it doesn't bother me, just a bunch of no lifers who's only skill and personality trait in life is a video game no one will care about in a few months to a year. they'll never go Pro, unless the it's in the middle of Quid and Quo. They say vile things to throw you off, and if you don't listen, then they lose their favorite tactic. not saying don't report, but also saying don't engage.
