Toxicity in games

I don't mind much trash talk. If someone annoys me too much I mute them, and if I can't do that then I won't play the game that omits such a key feature. What I do mind are campers. Seriously, that is the most boring way to play an FPS. Campers are like the fentanyl of online gamers, one of them shows up and everything from me to the fun I was having dies.

Personally don’t play multiplayer games, makes me horribly anxious (I just assume I suck and don’t want to ruin the game for others ::nervous-prinny) . Also something about hearing strangers voices blaring at me through my screen frightens me.

I really just prefer to take things at my own pace, not let my clownery become an issue for others.

Toxicity?

Back in my day we rewarded such accomplishments:

It was a badge of honour

I think light banter is fine, but 9/10 people online do not have the tact or wit for it. Generally speaking, I think being genuinely toxic in a game is kinda lame.

Call me "too WOKE" or whatever, but you shouldn't be attacking people's identities because you suck shit at the game. Like, getting called the N-word doesn't enhance the experience; it makes people want to stop playing with you. Stuff like that doesn't really need to do damage to suck, and most people don't want to deal with it. I think real toxicity is what ultimately killed fun stuff like proximity chat and lobbies, people couldn't behave. And not to mention the small minority that take shit off the game.

I'm not gonna act like I've never TeaBagged anybody or even that I don't actively try to fuck wit people online(I play FGs I love shit talk::flexing), but I'm definitely not someone who's like,
"WE GOTTA BRING COD LOBBIES AND BULLING BACK CUZ I JUST LOVE CALLIN' KIDS F@&&^%".

I think Shit got boring because the community itself usually isn't in-game anymore, not that we're missing the secret spice of whatever isms that society has to offer.

the only toxicity i know :maybe

Toxicity and insulting people online is a thing but I also believe that the polar opposite of having a system that could ban you if it thinks you have said something or if you could get kicked from a game because you simply have disagreed with someone else to be as bad (if not worse) than toxicity.

Extremes in one way or another isn't good.

Used to be a huge league of legends player like 2-3 years ago. I was playing on mid lane and I flamed the living hell out of our jungler who was playing bad. It got to a point where he disconnected and that was the moment I saw that his name was "40YearOldMan" or something like that. I felt BAD after that, because what if he really was just a 40 year old man trying to enjoy the game? The funniest part is that I wasn't doing that well either

You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.

However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?

Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!

Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...
About two weeks ago, my literal first game of Deep Rock Galactic in maybe two years was capped off by a guy trying to get me to do a fairly specific cheese strategy, but I didn't follow as fast as he would have liked so he proceeded to type in all caps at me for pretty much everything after. Not only was the guy a lower level than me but he was also telling me to do all of this on Hazard 3 where that level of coordination really is not necessary at all. On the higher hazards (4, my go-to, and 5), this is absolutely the case. You either learn to terraform bunkers and safe spaces in the later hazards or die trying. But not only had I never seen that specific strategy from any of the friends I team up with for DRG, but it wasn't immediately clear what he wanted from me.

I've been meaning to play more Counter Strike as of late, but every single time I shoot that urge down because I'm worried that I'll queue up in casual and be put into a lobby with people who are taking it way too seriously to be there. I'm not talking trash talk and trolling, but just a general aura of "this guy who just joined is horrible". It's a sensation I have in real life, sure as hell follows me here. It's a running theme that I feel with a lot of competitive games, and maybe it says more about me than it does the people playing with me, but it is the main reason why I've never committed to any competitive online game.

Not fun to be the center of attention at situations like these....if you want just play older CS games they are less serious than CS2

I played Halo 3 for a little using the free trial codes they gave on 360. I would shoot my team mates until their shield was down to provoke them to kill me and then when they did I would vote to kick.

It was stupid and I regret doing it the couple times I did ( I couldn’t afford Xbox gold and mainly gamed single player)

Basically I griefed a couple of times and felt bad.

Counter-Strike Source is more "open" and fun to me as well.

"WE GOTTA BRING COD LOBBIES AND BULLING BACK CUZ I JUST LOVE CALLIN' KIDS F@&&^%".
I kinda felt nostalgic for 2008 lobby videos.

Lol that's funny , i did lots of grieving and it's fun only for you and not anyone else be at the end of the wrong side when it's happening and you will get why it's bad.

CSS is legit the best.

I saw toxicity live at a net cafe few years ago. I didn't play but I was hearing and watching the shouts and rants of teens and youths, both to their online opponents but also the players sitting near them. The owner threatened to kick them out.
Of course they were playing LOL

One reason I never play such games

Man, I think the vibe with games is just off nowadays. People treat multiplayer like their nuts will get shocked with a car battery if they lose. We really gotta bring back general unseriousness.

It'd be nice if more games had old-school community servers again. That way, people could better curate the type of experience they want and the people they play with rather than queuing up to get cursed out by an iPad baby.

Impressive that this thread still alive is there no one in this world that didn't encounter toxicity when gaming? ANYONE?

Is it toxic of me to have called the person in casual 2fort who called the medic userbot cute and harmless a piece of shit?

No , i called people lots of racial slurs what you did is within acceptable limits I'm out there scaring Russian people away from ever playing with me ::smug

As legendary and iconic 1.6 was... I don't like the collision detection of the GoldSource engine (yes, it worked in Half-Life because there's no Ping and non humanoid enemies have bigger hitboxes).

I really dislike how "dry" shooting enemies in CS 1.6 feels (and no, it's not a skill issue since I'm pretty decent at CS:S).

Maybe the Source Engine made hitboxes better or just had a better hitscan calculation.

On a side note: I'm just a bit bored of de_Dust2 and 2Fort, I am fine with newer maps.

Yes the shooting in CSS is further supported by ragdolls i will never get tired of gunning people down with ak47s.

Regarding hitboxes i didnt find much problem with it in any version really , CS always had weird hitboxes it's well known that aiming at the chest results in a headshot ::eggmanlaugh

Yes part of why i don't play MP that much is because all that gets hosted 99% of the time is dust2 there is plenty of good maps like the original dust , Aztec , Italy and more I'm talking about serious normal play not a custom game , not to mention in 1.6 50% of a MP match is shooting at walls.

Counter-Strike's bullet spreading is something legendarily random which leads to crazy instances.

The game tried so hard to be realistic that there are some unrealistic situations happening.

As for the maps I feel like most old school players prefers doing what they know to do regardless of variety. "Fun" maps and unusual servers are for niche players (like Surfing, Zombie Chase or even Deathrun). Garry's Mod is probably more appropriate for various games than Counter-Strike...

I still love that video

Bullet spread still gives it a charm and as you said crazy instances.

Idk about old schoolers but i won't be surprised if they were less hardcore.

I never played surfing believe it or not.

Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament '99 were still wild.

Yet somehow having less RNG and you have more control over your characters. I kinda prefer them over CS.

Ah. Not even other modes? My memories are getting fuzzy but sadly CS 2 has kinda left many of them (same with CS:GO to a lesser extent).

I'm also kinda bad at bhop...

I find CS to be better than any arena shooter they are too fast paced isn't shooting them also a little too simple?

I'm not fond of parkour maps , i played CSGO mod and WarCraft 3 mod and paintball mod , paintball is the best

Is the casual tf2 player also a creature of habit who will gravitate back to 2fort ctf at every opportunity?
