It's good and sad at the same time i got an OLED one second hand for 40€ some years ago from a store.... good because the vita is a monster of emulation and even using it as a "portable pc" streaming thought moonlight alongside it's own catalogue of games but sad because it was that cheap meaning people hasn't given it the love it deserves yet.

Wow that's a steal, it's really hard to find any Vita below 100 Euros let alone an OLED one.

I'm still not sure if they were getting rid of them thinking they would be the ones winning big or what but in the end i was the one i got the win, i still use it to this day, nothing like playing a game on pc, move to bed with moonlight and keep playing while chillin' lying down.

Indirect thanks for reminding me i need to play the gba version of the trilogy i always play the DS or more recent versions but never got to do the gba, also hope you don't mind me copying your idea. ::thank-you

Anyone had any experience with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on Vita? Supposedly it runs pretty well, but idk how fun it'd be to play such an intense fighting game on a small handheld.
So far I've been using Tekken Dark Resurrection as my go-to fighting game on my Vita.

I am now a proud member of Vita Island. I searched for this handheld for a while and managed to find one at a store I had lots of store credit in. It came very used, in a beat up box, but it came complete. And the screen is relatively free of scratches, it’s mainly the back that has issues. I got myself a 32 GB memory card, Gravity Rush, and intend to hack it (as one does) to give myself the best experience with it. I’m fairly excited. Not only does this count as me finally having access to the game libraries of every PlayStation home console, but given how much fun I had with the PSP and my own personal tastes for PS games, I’m almost certain this handheld is for me. I’ll be checking out and using this thread as a reference for me as I go through the Vita’s world.

Yeah but the 3DS struggled too despite using SD Cards. I think the biggest factor was smart phones.
This is true. A lot of us had one, and a lot of people across the world did, but I remember that, as a kid, I had to go online to find other people with one. In my area it took until around 2015-2016 for more people to end up having one. Owning one from 2012 to 2015 was rough because I had nobody my age to talk about the system with lol.

But I will say: I never even heard about the Vita as a kid. I was cognizant of games at the time, so I should have at least heard its name thrown about, but I didn’t know about the Vita until around 2017 or so when the Switch snatched much of its’ small remaining market. What made me finally look the Vita’s way was, frankly, completionism. And I’ve been delighted to find that it’s a PlayStation that primarily is for the niche game lovers like me.

I’ve been playing for half an hour tops. I clipped into a building by accident. WHOOPS!

Fun game though. It takes a moment to really give you freedom to explore how it feels, but I’m already in love. There’s something so satisfying about being this young, gravity shifting superhero. I love how, if you aren’t careful, you can accidentally trap bystanders in your gravity field or knock them over by running into them. It activates my empathy. I want to treat them with kindness so maybe they’ll like me back. I also love the simple act of shifting gravity to essentially fall to my next location. This was an expensive used game to pick up, and I definitely appreciate having hacked my Vita so I don’t have to dump the same amount of money into other games, but this is an amazing first Vita game. Very impressed and happy so far.

Just played it today. I was able to run my stuff on the Vita! The text is a little rough, but the characters and map look really good! The big issue I ran into, and I feel this with MVC2 on the Dreamcast, was that the pad was too cramped for how rapidly you’re moving it in this game. The d-pad on the Vita is much better than the original PSP one, but Marvel is such an intense fighter that it hurts to play on such a small form factor. All told though, a really solid port! About on par with, and perhaps better than the Super Street Fighter 4 port on the 3DS. Marvel 3 being a four button fighter really helps its case lol

I feel like I missed out on this console twice in a row now :(
I didn't buy one when it was still being sold on retail, and then many years later I almost got a second hand unit when the prices were less ridiculous but ended up putting it off indefinitely. Lo and behold: this year I decide to look up how much they're going for and it pretty much doubled in price! Beat to shit used Vitas are now more expensive than brand new Nintendo Switches here. Maybe once the hype on tiktok over these consoles slows down a bit the prices will drop? I remember something similar happened to the Wii, those were crazy expensive for a bit but now the prices are much more reasonable.

I assume the main reason for this is way less units produced and sold compared to the wii, especially the 1000-OLED model, which goes for even more ridiculous prices.

My best advice, working in this current economy, is to be super patient and keep it as a thing in that back of your head. I got mine after actively hunting for one for… months? Probably close to a year. I had a ton of store credit from titles that I traded in after realizing I wasn’t going to finish them so they were going to be wasted on me, so in that way I got lucky too.

But, where I got luckiest was finding a 1000 model in its box. No explanation for that, and I’m so sorry. I just found it one day and knew that now was the time. Thankfully, much like the Wii, the Vita is cheap and easy to mod. In fact, I’d say it’s cheaper and easier to mod than the PSP was, and finding storage for the unit has been circumvented in the years since launch. So, yes, getting in the door (getting the system) is hard, but it’s plenty possible with patience. And, once you’re in, it’s relatively painless to play games. Even collecting for the system can be cheaper than many other systems, with a seemingly low demand on many of the Vita’s more famous titles, and a depreciated market currently for many Limited Run games. In that way, the Vita is far easier to have a good time with currently than its more popular rival: the 3DS.

So, sorry to keep posting in this forum, but I wanted to update you all on this:
You_Doodle+_2025-08-08T01_38_36Z.jpeg

It’s not a particularly long game, but it still has felt good to at least complete one game before the summer is over (I’ll continue Pokémon Black soon :p)

I liked it a lot! A fun 8/10 type of game! It’s a technical marvel to play this in your pocket, even in 2025. The mechanic of shifting gravity is near perfectly done, and the small bits of disorientation that come from it are more than justified by really making you feel like that’s what you’re doing. It’s seamless. The story of the game is one of the biggest elements, but I feel like it’s best to approach it from the idea that it’s like a serialized slice of life/adventure show. The bosses even have finishing animations, as if this game is descended from Tokusatsu! (Or, more accurately, magical girl stuff.)
I think Kat is a fun, spunky protagonist! I find her little adventures fun to follow, and I’m very happy to live in a world where this game got a sequel because I wasn’t really fulfilled by the ending. Raven is a way cooler character than I initially expected, and while I won’t spoil them, there’s a great supporting cast of characters who all make this world such a fun one to just be in.

Easily the highlight of the game is the movement and exploration, though. If you’ve ever wanted to explore a floating world of European architecture as a cat themed, gravity shifting superhero then PICK UP THIS GAME! It’s on PS4 as well if you’d like a taste, and possibly PC? If not, then I know the Vita has an emulator. But, regardless, I still feel gratified for having played it on the Vita. It can sometimes be gimmicky with how it uses the Vita’s touch controls, but it’s mostly a gobsmacking showpiece that also feels unique and artsy in a way that only Japan Studio could have provided! Just one of the many reasons why we miss them…

Awesome Vita shooter recommendation:
Fast Striker
IMG_6847.jpeg

A super fun, sprite based bullet hell that feels so right on this little handheld! Having a well made shooter in my pocket means so much. I also love how you can change the scale of the scanlines to your liking. It’s quite the well made feature.
IMG_6849.jpeg

The game is one of those where you can shoot in front and shoot behind. Holding the button for front shot shoots a laser and holding the button for behind you is a shot with a wider spread. You play as different ships for each difficulty, but I’m telling you that Maniac is very doable and is the most fun (at least to me).

I have to ask: has anybody in human history ever used the “NEAR” app? I basically got rid of it on my Vita by locking it away in a folder I would never use, and I assume many others feel the same way. It could have been cool, but it would’ve just been a less charming StreetPass if it was successful, and is a total tumor in our reality because Vita owners are few and far between.

I used it when I got the vita around launch. I guess no one near me had one though because it never picked up anything.

The PS Vita was way ahead of its time, but it never got the recognition it deserved. Honestly, if it had gotten more attention, I don’t think it would’ve flopped the way it did.

Why exactly do people keep saying that this console was abandoned too soon when it remained active for about 10 years with over 2000 games published for it? That's more than 3ds had and I don't think I've ever heard such claims about that.

I absolutely love my modded PS Vita. The games are great and it's the best way to play PSP games imo since there are many plugins that allow you to use the right thumbstick for camera control, which I can't figure out how to do on my Steam Deck. Plenty of underrated gems on the system too, especially indie games. There are tons of RPGs and visual novels on the system also :loldog

I spent a lot of time playing Deception IV Blood Ties on the Vita. Somehow I just found it easier to jump into that game on a handheld. Played a lot of Dragon's Crown too but eventually got bored with it. I think Odinsphere Leifthrasir is a much better game.

The VITA is a JRPG and VN fan's dream device. Plus the OLED screen made everything look stunning.

It kinda works for me as a cheaper, even more portable Steam Deck? I feel like that sounds disrespectful, but I mean that more in the way that it has a lot of genuinely good ports of good games while also being a slim portable that I can easily fit more discreetly with me than a Steam Deck. It doesn’t have a super long battery life, no, but it’s long enough to have a healthy gaming session on the bus and throughout a day.
