triggers, right! wait... triggers? still don't get it... maybe try out one of them 8bitdo neogeo pad remakes, don't even need to hook it up, just fidget around with it, it can calm the triggers

I meant joysticks. Sorry.

i've updated the image in op removing all obstructions for better clarity

omg yousef just won't let a guy be cryptic for a bit, it's clicky joystick ok, it clicks in 8 direction, like arcade stick, except it's small and flat, and it's better than dpad for everything, yuck

Countering a bit with a bit is my specialty :p

I've never played on, or even seen, a gamepad with that kind of clicky stick replacement. But I guess it would feel pretty different than a D-pad. Gamers like Dpads, but each one already likes different kinds of them. If we can't even agree on that, we'll never agree on a replacement.

See: the shmup and fighting game communities.

should've left the original image there too eh, editing op again...

all of them agree on this, and if they don't i'll fight them 🔪

This is beautiful, I hope I get to try it someday.

I love that controller in the OP, got 2 of the 8BitDo ones. But I love variety and experimentation in controllers. ALL controllers like that, no thanks. Different controllers for different games/genres is what I'd prefer personally just like it is now

Because dpad's are used for functions in alot of games these days, in the case of the analog-ish stick, it can cause problems in some situations.

I think the original steam controller did it best tbh when it came to it's dpad, at least from what i've heard.

must be one of those games where you press all 4 directions at the same time to cheat or something

The main reason for this is thumb fatigue, it's not exactly a common occurance but well, common doesn't mean other companies want to risk a lawsuit,
There's also likely another more obvious reason such as the module being more expensive.

thumb fatigue
well i don't have any serious problem with that so gotta concede if you do, but just with my avaragely beaten up hands i find it a lot less tiering to use the clicky stick, cause it requires very little force to get positive feedback, i automatically only press it just enough to get the microswitch to click (travel distance is also short on these, comparable to a button press), while the mushy dpad i would iron grip and squeeze to oblivion because of lack of feedback, kinda like membrane keyboard vs mechanical - i smash and always bottom out those membranes, while just gently soaring over and tickling the mechanical

There's nothing like the definiteness of a d-pad when it comes to non-analog movement. Though I'd say a microswitched joystick is nice too... but in the end I'll prefer the D-pad. I like the simplicity a lot.

I think it depends a lot on if you're playing something that's 2D or 3D. I find the d-pad gives me more precision in 2D platformers compared to an analog stick.

I generally like it, but it also depends on the controller itself. Some controllers can have a painfully stiff d-pad.

omg guys plz this is not an analog stick, is this how they screwed up the neogeo mini controllers?
