I have never played this two genres, but always wanted to give them a shot, but a lot of them overwhelm me for some reason because of the amount of UI present, and also the general fact that I am not a very smart man, and both of these genres from the outset seems to require a lot of brain power. So any strategy or moba that is friendly for a complete noob to try, feel free to suggest.

Among Us

Edit to elaborate: it does not fall in the categories by design. Plus, instead of contesting, you're cooperating to achieve a main goal. But I felt like mentioning cus it kinda matches some stuff you're seeking from the games: noob friendly and helps to train your brain for real time strategy thinking.

I was into Mobile Legends for a while. It's a Moba available on mobile platforms. There was a bit of a learning curve but I didn't find it very hard to get into. The only other similar games I'd played before that were old custom StarCraft maps before Mobas existed. I played it for a couple of years with a friend of mine until we both moved on to different things. I tried Dota 2 at one point but I didn't really like it.

It's like starcraft for people who don't have time to play starcraft! And yes, that means both match length and actual learning curve!

At the start of a match you pick 6 units to be able to make in a given match which can range from trash mobs to towers that defend your base to tier three animals that will crush anyone in their way!
Matches are incredibly quick due to how much smaller the maps are and you have a general idea of where your opponent is because they should just be on the other side of the map from you! The main currency is food, and to get food you need to construct the windmills and spend food to make farms around the windmills (or gristmill if ya fancy). These farms will slowly be over farmed and stop producing- so games will always end! You win when you can destroy all of the enemy's (or enemies) gristmills with your troops!
It's easy to control because you don't have a free cam, but a locked camera on your flag bearer unit who you will use to start construction, scout out the enemy's base, and lead your soldier onward!
Super beginner friendly, super beautiful to listen to and look at, and fast paced matches!
It does have a lot of political commentary tho, so if you're weird about that- I guess miss this one lol

Strategy games on consoles are usually a lot simpler because of the controller setup. Technically stuff like Pikmin, Advance Wars, and Fire Emblem are strategy games.

Beginner friendly MOBA is an oxymoron to me so I can;t help you much there.

As for strategy, that genre is very broad. Are you looking for a turn based one, where you have a lot of time to think about your next move or a real time one where everything happens regardless of whether you are aware of it or not? Then there's the scale involved. the civilisation series are strategy games but played over a long period of time and requires a different chain of thought compared to a war sim like the command and conquor like ones.
And, of course, there's the industry/city builders where you are meant to kinda get them into a state where they mostly run themselves

Can you recommend a strategy turn base game that leaves you time to think?

All the more old school style strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem, Super robot Wars, Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy tactics only allow you to control 1 unit at a time and no other unit will move or react until your move is finished. Then it's their turn.

You have all the time in the world to decide what to do with your unit.

I would recommended the Disgaea Games.

Story is light but present, and fairly enjoyable, more so if you like anime.

Good stuff!

Turn based is always a good place to start since you obviously have endless time to decide upon your strategy. Advance Wars is great for this since it drops RPG elements for a match-by-match economy that helps it feel more reminiscent of RTS games. If you do want real time, Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 are excellent starters since they simplify both the micro and macro aspects of the genre. You don't have to worry about building placement or ordering workers around on top of their just being generally fewer upgrades, building types and units to think about in general. Super fun and still tons of depth, but much less overwhelming.

That said though, strategy games on easier difficulties do a lot to slow the game down and give you time to figure things out. Just pop on a Command & Conquer or Starcraft game on Easy and see how ya like it!

When it comes to MOBAs, League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm are probably the easiest to grasp at a basic level. Not many buttons aside from your core abilities and moving around and each game has fairly easy to understand base goals at early, mid and late game.

I believe the new strategy game Mewgenics would be beginner friendly.
Plus the in-game music kicks ass!!

Sorry no gameplay in that one, look here

regiments is pretty kino if you're into the late cold war and it will let you pause whenever to make your move, it's also got a pretty well defined command chain pov so units are never too micromanage-y. i suck at rts and love my regi

Rise of Natations, Age of Empires 2 and Warhammer Dawn of War 2 are the three I remember playing the most as a kid
