I agree with you that it's probably not gonna sell that well. However, the rail shooter genre hasn't had a massive resurgence the way that games like Metroid did between it's fourth and fifth games. Because of that, I don't think Dread us a good point of comparison here.
If you want me to be real here; I’m not asking Nintendo to reinvent the wheel here. I have no idea why series like Star Fox and F-Zero have always been self-sabotaged and stagnated by them for the reasons of “We don’t know how to innovate these games” when Zelda had the same formula for almost 25 years before they decided to switch directions. If they’d have just announced a new Star Fox game that’s a rail shooter in the style of 64, but had brand new levels and some other changes, I guarantee not nearly as many people would be mad about this. It’s like Metal Slug; the core gameplay is the same throughout the games, but anyone who’s played those games still sees them as all individual games with their own identities. Why can’t Star Fox be like that? Instead they’re giving us a really ugly reskin of a nearly 30 year old game.

I don't understand the 'ugly' thing. These character designs are very detailed recreations of the original game's key art. It's like the opposite of a safe decision, shouldnt we want them to do bold things like this within a rather safe game like a SF64 remake?
Falco with actual feathers and talons is what I needed, Starfox had a weird rule regarding how characters were when they weren't mammals.
If they were trying to replicate the puppet look from the SNES games key art, they should’ve actually made them look like puppets with realistic materials, like the Gerry Anderson puppet shows that inspired the series in the first place, instead of this DLSS 5 looking bullshit. We know Nintendo can do this, just look at the Yoshi series, they’re all built around that realistic material look.

Nice hat, but it's true. & let's not just stop at the designs, look at those animated cutscenes & voice acting. The file size might just be all of that other than in-game graphics.

I just default into assuming most Switch 2 games will be key cards because most Switch 2 games are on key cards. Not as much the first-party games, but still.

This logic doesn't really make sense though because they never do this for ANY of their other series. Donkey Kong, for example, actually had a even longer break between games than Star Fox before Bananza came out, yet DK still got a brand new original game and not a literal 1:1 remake/reskin of a nearly 30 year old game. Speaking of; have we already forgotten Star Fox 64 is on their NSO service? This is another issue I have with this; I genuinely don't know why they would expect anyone already familiar with SF 64 to actually drop money on this. Unless you're someone whose exclusively gonna play the online multiplayer modes, there is literally ZERO reason to buy this as it's the exact same game as the 64 version, minus new graphics and some added cutscenes. I don't think that's really worth the price they're asking for in all honesty. Something like Star Fox Zero would've been way more preferable to me. Yeah, it was basically a soft-reboot of the Lylat Wars story, but at least it actually did something different at the same time and wasn't just rehashing everything from 64.
