What do you think of adding spoiler tags to generally NSFW content?

There has been a gradually growing number of generally NSFW images that have been posted on profile walls and elsewhere in the last few months, and it was recently suggested by a number of Users that lewd or sexually explicit art and imagery be covered by spoiler tags to hide this type of content from Users who do not wish to see it.

RGT has a wide age demographic, and some of these images aren't suitable for younger audiences, and many other Users simply do not wish to see this kind of content when browsing the forums or recommending the site to others.

We have tried to be more relaxed about Rule #7. The general rule of thumb being "if you'd see it down at the beach, then it's fine". But of course, people will still try to push the envelope as to what they can get away with.
On the other hand, these images are often impressive displays or artistry and creativity, and they have their audience.

What are your feelings on the idea?

For the time being, the risqué art thread has been given the all-clear, as long as we stay on top of it (we are) and people continue to make use of it without breaking the rules. Thankfully it seems to be going well so far and everyone's having a good time with it. :]

In my opinion it's simply part of the long established gamer/otaku culture, and it is also in my opinion that this forum isn't actually part of your everyday gaming communities since it's retro gaming forum - so the expectation is that it would cater more to the (whatever you want to call it), hardcore, old-school, niche, highly passionate section of those who love video games.

I think we should focus on a specific audience and avoid the act of diluting it by trying to please the wide range of people who may possibly visit RGT. It's a never ending chase. It's also a lot more work and supervision. But I guess that depends on your vision for this forum.

If it was up to me, I would allow any form of ecchi without a spoiler, allow artistic/soft nudity with a spoiler tag, and ban explicit nudity with clear visible private areas.

I don’t care personally but considering the age ranges, spoiler tags are not going to prevent a younger member from not seeing it as they will absolutely click on it so I don’t see the point of the spoiler tags as it’s not really saving them from anything they won’t click to see.

The beach reference is a little different IMO, yeah you see bikinis and such but it’s not people trying to be sexually suggestive, it’s just people enjoying a hot day at a beach. The pictures that will be posted here are characters with huge ridiculous chests zipping down their shirts or gifs of porn stars like that trolling muppet a few weeks ago was posting.

At the end of the day, if anyone wants to look at sexually suggestive photos, they can Google on their own time.

I must be blind as a bat then I never seen NSFW images on this forum the only time I ever seen it once is on the Repo and then they got spoilers.

But here on the froum not a single one. Or are you saying bikini picture or showing to much skin but still not naked to me considered NSFW ??

Like what do you consider not safe for work. ?

I’ve been banned off of Facebook for less than what has been posted in the risque art thread. It got to the point where I’m always worried that any time I make an off the cuff lewd remark even without visual representation that I’m going to get punted.
Nah i say some of the most sexually unhinged posts and my signature is attest to that, and yet ive been here since the site fully took off. As long as you don't harass other users youll be fine. Glad to have you on the site ::peacemario

Is the new thread actually solving anything right now? If anything it's probably making even more minors aware of the existence of this type of content in the forums.

I think it can work as a solution, but it should have an invite-only access method ASAP.

And for Christ's sake, there's a 17 year old posting there right now.

if it keeps the weirdos in their own space and off their statuses im all for it.

i think about it all day too but i dont need to be posting a load of bollocks in here to show everyone lol.

Hope Xdqwuerty learns his lesson.
none of you learn anything just keep on using this place as a non gaming we've never touched a woman kind of mindset.
Not helping either of you. We're trying to be pro-active in finding a solution. We're looking at applying an age-gate. Not certain how feasible it is yet, but we're looking into it. The thread may be down for maintenance in the meanwhile.

Then how can I help?

Don't slate other people. Instead, suggest ways that we can meet everyone half-way. If one extreme is banning NSFW content altogether, and the other extreme is letting people post porn in every thread, try and suggest a compromise in the middle. If you can't think of one, then don't comment unless in support or constructive criticism of another suggestion.

i said id be happy for a section maybe closed off with a password for these people but i dont wanna see it in their statuses these people are not here to talk about games. if you give people an inch with these subjects they want a mile its almost cult like.

It seems like if I try to fight this, I'll get shut down as always.

The other day I was talking to @thumbsdown regarding a similar topic, and he suggested this:
I've been in another xeno forum with this feature implemented and that's something that improved my experience a lot in that context.

Sometimes shitposting is not the problem, but ppl getting way too overwhelmed with the flow of multiple posts (makes sense in a forum with the proportions of RGT, even tho we have very few regulars around).

But this should be implemented in both ways, so let's say if [username] or anyone else opts-in they'd be unable to make profile posts for others to see as well.
We've already relayed this to Waffles, but I'd like to know your opinion on something like this?

No, you don't get it — you were simply told to stop throwing people under the bus, especially a literal kid who hasn't even posted here.
