Should people watch Family Guy? Is it a bad show?

Used to love it, but the humor mostly falls flat for me these days, even the pre-cancellation stuff. A lot of the gags got by on being just a bit more wacky than we were used to, and referencing more recent pop-culture, so they don’t age that well, whereas the first decade of The Simpsons still hits cause it only sprinkled that stuff on top of solidly written comedy. No hate for it though.

it really is typical American humor
i cant stand it lol
its not so much the silly fart jokes but the loooong drawn out scenes are so fkn painful

Is Family Guy a bad show? I'd say only it would be but only to people that don't like the show's humor or characters

Like most comedies the humor eventually gets stale and corny. This guy pokes fun at Family Guy with his own creepy style that he’s known for.

There's a lot of shows i don't care about. Family guy, Simpsons, King of the hill, couldn't care less.

Curiously Futurama i actually like. But otherwise the stupidity is.... uggg... i just don't know.

It's one of the best TV show, along with the first ten seasons of the Simpsons.

I've only watched best offs on Youtube so far and I'm not interested in watching actual episodes.

It has its moments and the first four seasons are worth a watch. It has far more sexual humor than I remembered when I went back to watch it a couple years ago with my wife and kids.

Right now the quality is very mixed. Some episodes are still clever while others are a dumpster fire.

I never thought it was absolutely fantastic, but I never felt it became "completely trash" either. It's definitely not Big Mouth.

Some of the recent seasons are even really solid.

Ultimately, though... if someone likes it, they should watch it.

It insists upon itself.

The best way to watch it, is through best of or funny moments compilations.

An actual modern family guy episode, is akin to a fever dream.

I always watch new episodes when they arrive on Disney+ while I eat something

Family Guy is the piece of media I’ve consumed most over my life. My dad was a big fan of the original pre-cancellation run, so I grew up with the first three seasons on DVD, and every single one of those episodes is seared permanently into my mind. When the show came back, I was ecstatic beyond words. It’s had an unbelievable influence on the way I speak, how I think, and what I find funny. If you hate me, blame Seth MacFarlane.

In my humblest of opinions, Seasons 2, 3, and 4 are the best, and the show dies at the end of Season 7. I’ve seen every single episode of the series multiple times and will continue to for as long as they release new ones. I’m in too deep, at this point — either the show dies first, or I do.

Season 4’s “PTV” is the best episode of the series by far, and the one that I recommend everyone watch. It’s the perfect encapsulation of the show’s attributes at their highest point — naughty jokes, offensive humor, ridiculous songs, and references to other TV shows. “Road to Europe” and “Brian Wallows and Peter’s Swallows” are also classics beyond comprehension, the latter being unbelievably sweet for an adult cartoon about farting. I can recite every line from every one of those episodes, and many more, from memory easily.

Since the late 2000s, though, the series’ writing has fallen off a cliff, and every episode after about 2008 has smacked of laziness, preachiness, and just general incompetence. Yes, dear writers, I know — you’re all liberal atheists. More jokes about the A-Team, please! The most recent seasons are what I’d lovingly refer to as embarrassing messes, and many of them have simple errors like bad line readings and orphaned jokes that could easily have been caught or corrected if anyone cared. Nobody does.

That being said, the one small place that the show has improved since Disney bought Fox is, unbelievably, the animation. New episodes look great — way better than the show ever has! Disney must have forced them to buck up the visuals. Shame they aren’t in service of strong writing, but.

I love Family Guy dearly, even though, by volume, it’s a horrible show. But it was, is, and always will be a big part of me. A big, fat part. Shipoopi!

(And yes, if you’re the kind of person who gets legitimately offended by comedy, you shouldn’t watch it. It makes fun of race, gay people, trans people, religion, women, sexual assault, political figures, terrorism, drugs, alcoholism, suicide, the Holocaust, and everything else you’re not supposed to laugh at. If you can think of it, they’ve made fun of it in the quarter-century the show’s been on the air. I appreciate it for not pulling any punches — I just wish the quality of the writing wasn’t abysmal.)
My biggest problem is Seth's insane need to point out how dumb everyone is for believing in religion. I get it, religion hurt you. It works for me though lol. At least when South Park does it it's dumb like Jesus with M16's and Matrix moves. They also aren't afraid to play both sides. Idk, I liked Family Guy when it was aware that it was goofy and they did cool things with it. Now it's just mean spirited and preachy.

Actually, on that point. I watched The Orville recently. It was really good, except for the episodes dedicated to telling you how dumb you are for believing in God, which there are a few. Which is a problem because otherwise they'd be good, they just take like 3 minutes to explain the failures of religion. Good lord just shoot aliens already lol.

Late but whatever...

I've been watching family guy/god/goy/gay/football recently and i will say that seasoms 1-4 are pretty well made and funny, seasons 5-9 are like the youngs say "mid" and honestly it's kind of weird to think that the ending of return of the jedi also makes for a good family guy ending, i mean at least you could end your marathon of the show on a strong note, much like lisa in the army from season 8 of the SIMPsons or meanwhile from Futurama season 7, after season 9 and ever since the series just got way worse, can't believe episodes as bad as mushroom seahorse seashell party and screams of silence are now older that the show itself back in 2011, but here we are.

Just watch american dad, it's way better, even if the animation a lot of the time is static with characters moving their hands and talking, at least the action set pieces they do appear more often and feel lees forced, and also the humor and characters are way better, probably the only worthwile animated show fox made around that time alongside the last few seasons of king of the hill and later in 2011 with bob's burguers, also american dad is one of the rare cases where 1080p hd widescreen made the show more lively rather than soulless like the other shows, might be because the show in it's firet few seasons already had an ok animation like early family guy and didn't seem like they were cheaping out like the other shows.

As for Cleveland show, it's not as bad as some people say it is, it got some actually good episodes, heck, might as well be better than the family guy from back then, but nothing really worth watching.

Family Guy spends way too much time trying to be anything other than itself, and I just don't get it... It's always been at its best when it was unapologetically itself.

This thing could have only existed on FG, but it shines as a result:

i mean family guy is fine, the earlier seasons are definitely better but the later seasons have their moments

Like im not gonna die on a hill defending the show but i think it gets more hate than deserved especially if you watch the show casually

Family guy goes with the motto " if we want to offensive, we'll be towards everyone and everything "

after this it's up to everyone to see if it's ok or not.

family guy is 8/10 throw anything at the wall and see what sticks comedy from season 1 to around 22 or so
past that i wouldn't bother disney ruined it. i think stuff like family guy is fine as background/timerkiller/high at 3 am tv it doesnt pretend to be some deep tv show so it actually aged better than stuff like south park that got preachy in the later seasons
family guy goes into the endless rewatch when bored bin with south park rick and morty futurama simpsons etc cuz tbh most tv is either garbage or the kind of stuff you wanna watch when you feel really good
i have chronic pain so i just throw on whatever lol

I don’t think it’s necessarily awful or bad, but don’t go into it expecting much. It’s best enjoyed when you just need some dumb noise to watch and/or listen to.

If you wanna watch it, watch it. It's not my thing, I certainly echo the criticisms on the show having nonsensical gore and characters that are so beyond flanderized at this point it's cringe. But if you're interested in watching it I won't say no. Even if your just watching it to criticize it, well, it helps to know what your criticizing. It's not that bad, just extremely adolescent in a way that even I don't typically find funny. I also wouldn't say it's animation is ugly. It's sorta bland and you can definitely tell the hand that graphics design software played in making it (unlike the vast majority of other traditional 2D animated shows) but it's not outright ugly.

Eh, it's not bad, but I think the content is far more uneven than South Park. Then again I haven't watched the main series since I owned it on PSP back in 2006, though to this day I still love watching Blue Harvest.
