Time for Saturday Movie Night, where I watch random movie on a whim!
Men In Black for tonight.

Yesterday I've just watched District 9 and Children of Men:

Somehow they're both close thematically.

The first has astounding CGIs for its era (I'd almost rate it above Avatar) and the second is basically Half-Life² the movie (minus the aliens).

Edit: I've also watched The Matrix for nostalgia (and for the second time ever):

And Black Magic M-66 because I love cool old school anime OVAs.

Re-watched The Great Mouse Detective, my childhood favorite. I enjoyed it, especially the sequence inside Big Ben, both for the excellent use of CGI and the great cinematography.

I have to say, it's so strange to watch the movie with the original voice track after watching a dub. You're used to the characters sounding one way and then they sound completely different.

Ah, the original has Rattigan voiced by the amazing Vincent Price. I love his song in this so much.

I just finished watching a double-bill of A Working Man and Novacaine.
Both were alot of fun and I'd happily recommend both to anyone looking for a modern action flick.
If I had to pick a fave, it'd be A Working Man. I really like Jason Statham as a leading man, and the film, while long, had some very memorable action scenes, an interesting score, stylish lighting and cool scene locations. But the best thing about it was the villains! Things start off seemingly pretty normal - Petty thugs, drug pushers, human traffickers. But before long, you've got an old Russian mobster with a skull cane, samurai bikers, and a colourful cast of ludicrous henchmen.

Definitely worth a look if that sounds like your sort of thing.

Just know that in between any movie I’d eventually post here, I will have watched Conan the Barbarian twice.

It's been weeks since I posted what I was watching; since then I've seen:

Gambit (1966), an eccentric heist movie from different clashing perspectives starring Micheal Caine opposite Shirley MacLaine. It's got a touch of Rashomon (1950), with the way it re-tells the story after the halfway mark from another characters point of view. Very fun!

Experiment Perilous (1944), a romantic thriller that is, just, incredibly boring. Starring George Brent and Hedy Lamarr, it's basically another movie chasing the success of Rebecca (1940), and all the other beautiful gothic daughters of Jane Eyre. Hedy has a gorgeous dress in one scene, but I can barely remember the rest. Very unfun!

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg/Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1964), an experimental musical where the melody is overshadowed by how jaw-droppingly gorgeous it is. There might not be another movie that uses vibrant colors quite like this, not that I've seen anyways. It's pretty well-known, so I'm late to the party here, but it's easy to see what a big influence this was on movies like La La Land (2016).

Five Came Back (1939), a drama starring Lucille Ball and Joseph Calleia. A plane crashes in a remote South American jungle, with just twelve survivors. The best bit of suspense is actually right there in the title, the marquee told you going in that most of these people won't make it! It's a big cast of characters, with several big egos clashing. It would probably be unfair to spoil any of it; I went in blind, and I'd happily recommend the same experience to anyone else!

The Bat (1959), a horror mystery starring Agnes Moorehead and Vincent Price. It's the third or so remake of a movie from the 20's, about a masked killer who opens throats with a clawed glove while he commits high profile robberies. (Random aside, that original had a silly masquerade getup for the killer that helped inspire the look of Batman. In the comics, Bruce Wayne's father attended one of his parties dressed like the character from that movie, and nowadays the villain Doctor Hurt wears it and claims he *is* Thomas Wayne. Comics are weird!) Anyhow, this is a bizarrely paced movie, that bends over backwards to try and fool the audience about who the killer is. The visual of the black glove with big claws reaching through a window or around the door is pretty fun, but the movie feels like it's a rough draft. It's weird to explain, but I didn't enjoy it enough to go back and wrap my head around it!

There's a few others, and - relevant to this site - even a video game movie! You'll uh, hear more about that shortly though.

I'm gonna watch the cam of The Minecraft Movie that's somehow an unfinished version??? Maybe a third of the movie is unfinished. It's amazing.

I found a copy without weird gambling ads and downloaded it and skipped around and you can even see the greenscreens behind them half the time and you can even see the mocap guys!

RN I´m planning to rewatch all of the Studio Ghibli Movies

Watched Angel Heart recently, amazing film. I won't tell much about it, because it is better to go into that film blind.

But yeah, I absolutely adore the atmosphere of this film, as I think it nails the atmosphere it is going for, and Mickey Rourke is pretty good as well (plus, Robert DeNiro in his most fabulous beard; lol)
Post automatically merged:

For next week, I am planning on watching Zatoichi (2003) starring Takeshi Kitano.

Last film I watched last week (director's cut version), haven't really had a lot of time to watch stuff lately. I've known this movie for almost my whole life but I still hadn't watched it. It's easily some of the most fun I've had in a really long time.
