I forgot to tell you, I watched this the night you posted that review.>>> SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE NEW LOONEY TUNES PICTURE "THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP". <<<
TL;DR: I really enjoyed it, and I'd strongly recommend it if you like silly, funny, looney cartoons.

I've been waiting to watch this movie for a long, long time. I remember seeing promo images for it in late 2023, and thinking "Oh my fucking lord in heaven, I need to see this movie." There is a very special place in my heart for the golden age Looney Tunes shorts, but so, so many reinventions of the brand have been just atrocious (Space Jam sits atop that dark throne), and it's not difficult to see why nobody really cares about those characters anymore. But, damn it – I care. I love those characters. But when you love something, you set your expectations high, and its breaks your heart when they fail.
This would have hit me much harder as a kid but at least this movie stuck with me for the next few days. I wasn't at the edge of my seat but this movie has soul. The thing you pointed out about this movie not relying on internal or external references really made a difference.
Maybe someday I'll rewatch it in brazilian portuguese if that is/becomes avaliable, as it is the language I grew up with the looney tunes characters.
The alien is my favorite character, with his unhinged hysterical laughs and super villain attitude. The fact that he turns out to be a good guy at the end only makes it better. A true example for me to follow
