>>> SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE NEW LOONEY TUNES PICTURE "THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP". <<<

TL;DR: I really enjoyed it, and I'd strongly recommend it if you like silly, funny, looney cartoons.

I've been waiting to watch this movie for a long, long time. I remember seeing promo images for it in late 2023, and thinking "Oh my fucking lord in heaven, I need to see this movie." There is a very special place in my heart for the golden age Looney Tunes shorts, but so, so many reinventions of the brand have been just atrocious (Space Jam sits atop that dark throne), and it's not difficult to see why nobody really cares about those characters anymore. But, damn it – I care. I love those characters. But when you love something, you set your expectations high, and its breaks your heart when they fail.
I forgot to tell you, I watched this the night you posted that review.

This would have hit me much harder as a kid but at least this movie stuck with me for the next few days. I wasn't at the edge of my seat but this movie has soul. The thing you pointed out about this movie not relying on internal or external references really made a difference.

Maybe someday I'll rewatch it in brazilian portuguese if that is/becomes avaliable, as it is the language I grew up with the looney tunes characters.

The alien is my favorite character, with his unhinged hysterical laughs and super villain attitude. The fact that he turns out to be a good guy at the end only makes it better. A true example for me to follow

I just got back from a cinema double bill of Last Breath and The Lost Lands!

Not got much to say about Last Breath, but Lost Lands was pure gamer shlock and I had a great time. In my eyes the film made clear references to Dark Souls III, Duke Nukem 3D, Nier Automata, Twisted Metal, Mad Max and DOOM, all whilst looking like Van Helsing meets Underworld by Way of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Pure 🧀

It's Saturday Movie Night, where I watch random movie on a whim!

This movie is often overlooked, I hope it's good.

Trying to convince my friends to watch The Matrix with me,
Did this the other day, film is still a lot of fun, and one of a very small number of texts of any sort that has enough sneaky detail to warrant serious analysis.

I ended up watching Yes, Madam (from 1985 with Michelle Yeoh) and I gotta say that I love cable and the feeling of that era for HK movies (the pre-retrocession period was quite an interesting time).

I'm going to be opening my long since sealed Boogiepop dvd tonight and watching it on on my Trinity 360. I tried watching this on dramacool one night after work a while ago but ended up falling asleep before anything really happened so I don't really remember much. I just remember it had nice j-horror vibes and slightly reminded me of the Fatal Frame movie.

I try to go to the cinema at least once a week. I'm gonna go watch Black Bag tomorrow.
So far, these are the films I've watched in 2025 in the the theatre, ordered by how much they entertained me, from most to least:

Better Man
In the Lost Lands
Nosferatu
Mickey 17
Bridget Jones: MatB
Baby Girl
The Monkey
Flight Risk
Marching Powder
Mufasa
Heart Eyes
Captain America: BNW
Last Breath
A Real Pain
Wolf Man
We Live in Time
Companion

How was Mickey 17?

TL;DR - Quirky, not for everyone. I enjoyed it!

Patterson's accent was distracting and funny at first, but I got accustomed to it before long and soon enough it was just part of his character. The dystopian mundane crap-sack future is well realised.
Has an interesting plot, with slightly uneven pacing.
The characters get developed in ways I'm not used to seeing in your run-of-the-mill modern cinematic release. It was quite refreshing for that.
I saw a review or two that singled out Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette's performances as being OTT, but I felt like they belonged in that universe.

I just watched Black Bag

It was pretty alright! Over 95% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes though last I checked? That's the most overblown score I've seen since the 90+% for A Real Pain
